RUSSIAN CIRCLES RUSH IN CIRCLES AROUND MY HEAD ON NEW TRACK
Thursday, September 3rd, 2009 at 1:00pm by Vince Neilstein
“Russian Circles” is like an onomatopoeia of band names; I have no idea what a Russian Circle is, but I do know that if the band name is spoken — not written — it’s accurate as fuck. Listen to any Russian Circles song and tell me their music doesn’t sound just like circles that are rushing, spiraling and spinning (hint: it helps if you’re stoned). Their excellent 2008 release Station was one of my favorite instru-metal releases of that year, and judging from the new track “Malko,” their new record Geneva (October 20th, Suicide Squeeze) will bring more of the same rushing, circling goodness.
Noise/post-rock fans, take note: ex-Botch, current-These Arms Are Snakes bass player Brian Cook is now a permanent member of Russian Circles. Yeah!

Excellent track, bummed they aren’t coming anywhere near here on that tour.
BTW, Russian Circles are a hockey warm up.
Gonna have me a Russian Circle-jerk over this.
Aw Man! Anyone seen the line up for The Fest 8 in G’ville?
Coalesce
Coliseum
Kylesa
Magrudergrind
Samiam
Torche
7 Seconds…just to name few. Gonna be killer!
I live in G’ville, Right down the road from the venues that put on the fest. I’m literally a quarter mile away. Despite the lineup, the fest is riddled with douchebags and scene kids. I’ve never gone and never will.
I am willing to tolerate the scenesters in order to see the almighty Coalesce along side Torche and Kylesa. Went last year to see my buddies in ASG and had a blast despite the douche-factor. I’ll most likely make the drive from Tally to go this year.
That was an awesome song. Admittedly I am really high right now, but I am pretty sure it would be awesome anyway.
Russian Circles fucking owns. It’s sorta like Nik Bartsch’s Holon, but not quite. More metal, less jazz, I guess. Both are great.
Excellent, excellent band
Russian Circles is a hockey exercise
Fuck yes, I love this band. My introduction was ‘Enter’, and I was hooked ever since. Great shit. Red Sparowes were great live too, I saw them with Isis. Badass show.
This.
Amazing…amazing band.
Oh shit for some reason I thought Red Sparowes were on hiatus. They’re not, cool!
