SUMATRA, FROM RUSSIA

sumatraMS Maniac Steve G. sent in a link to the Russian band Sumatra. Says Steve:

So I’m surfing around youtube watching stupid covers (it’s addicting), and there’s this one dude that is shredding the faceless, all shall perish and aftre the burial like I’ve never seen…he’s got guitar covers for almost all of their songs and they’re all near flawless. So it turns out this dude is some random guy from Moscow and he plays in a tech metal band. I don’t usually feel the need to share my obscure band info but I guess Ziltoid rubbed off on me and this was too random to resist…they’re not bad…check them out.

So, what do the MS faithful think? Do Sumatra get a yea or a nay?

    for a local band, I would say very good. but for the standards of becoming a fan from a distance and listening to often, no.

    They get a yay from me.
    Since they’re quite similar to after the burial, born of osiris, veil of maya, all shall perish (in my opinion the best of the deathcore bands), I like them a good bit, but they still cant touch the bands mentioned above. For Deathcore standards.

      Meh, I’m here. I just haven’t been posting at all as of late.

      1) No time.
      2) No stories worth posting on.
      3) Whenever I do post, I get the “comment waiting for moderation” notice, so all of my comments have to be approved. Thus, I can’t really get into a long-winded arguments, since my comments don’t go up right away. Maybe I’ll have tinker around with a few settings to fix that.

    I’m from the midwest and love my Sumeriancore, so I too looked up this band because of the covers on youtube. I like the music, vocals not so much.

    Pretty unimaginative Sumeriancore, creativity is what keeps this type of music from being a mindless shred-fest. The vocals suck and the music, while technically proficient, is totally forgettable.

    Technically speaking, yes, the vocals suck. But judged on a “how fucking evil is that?” way, I’d have to say I like it. I know they don’t sound great compared to normal standards but I personally love the vocals, I like that style. In the same way I love the vocals in Blood Tsunami.
    I don’t usually like the bands that would be mentioned along side these guys, but I like this. I fail to understand myself most of the time.

    They might not be up with the elite sumeriancore but they’re still really good by todays standard of metalcore-by-numbers. And even though we are living in an increasingly globally accessible world, it’s not every day you find awesome bands from Russia. I can’t even think of any other russian metal bands; then again I’m having a hard time getting my mind past Russian Circles…just ’cause of the name you know?

    I would probably mosh to them live, while being shit-faced… maybe I will some day, because I’m not that far from Moscow…

    But they sound pretty fucking generic to me. Can you tell it’s a Russian band? They sound just like anything else summeriancore…. and that’s not a compliment. Although, the musicianship is really great!

    As far as Russian bands, I prefer Korrozia Metalla, Old Wainds, or Nokturnal Mortum, event hought NM is from the Ukrane. So nay on this nu-metal garbage, 10 years too last kids!

    Dude these guys are awesome , especially compared to most other Russian bands that play techno-cyber-goth-death-bullshit. They’re a shoe-in for Sumerian , or victory records could steal them like they did with within the ruins and wretched. Vocals suck , but he’s a decently new vocalist who will get better eventually. If you hooked them up with a good producer they’d take off I think.
