chevell - sci-fi crimesOur bro-bros at Metal Insider have compiled some Soundscan and radio rankings from the world of metal last week for your perusal. The highlights:

Insane Clown Posse, Bang! Pow! Boom! (Psychopathic) #4, 50,000 sold
If the title of your new album closely resembles a song by the Black Eyed Peas, you might be a wigger.

Chevelle, Sci-Fi Crimes (Epic) #6,  45,500 sold
What Hollywood Undead is to ICP, Chevelle was to Tool. At least initially.

In slightly more encouraging news:

Pantera, Vulgar Display of Power (Atlantic Group) 780 sold
This is all digital sales – Amazon had a one-day sale of the album for $3.99. Not too shabby.

Get the full skinny on the rest of the charts over at Metal Insider.

  • Double D

That’s pretty cool about the Pantera album. Too bad we didn’t find out about it before, maybe we could’ve gotten some of the haters and young’uns on this site to boost those numbers…

  • Ziltoid

Why is it good news that people would pay for digital music, let alone crappy Pantera?

CDs, vinyls, or nothing at all.

  • DemonicLemming

The new Chevelle cd is pretty weaksauce. Vena Sera has been their best to date….Sci-Fi Crimes is really a completely forgettable album, unfortunately.

    • Kye

Agreed. I’ve never been a huge Chevelle fan. I don’t hate them, but I kinda think all their songs run together. Anyway, after hearing Jars, I thought this album had a lot of promise. Turns out the only song I particularly like on the album at all is Jars.

how many mid-tempo 3/4 songs that are depressing can one band write?

        • Sammy

          59 (so far)

          • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jason-Crispen/100000169530540 Jason Crispen

hahaha after i wrote that i went and looked at some. most are in 6/8, so basically 3/4. but goddamned if they don’t sound all alike.

      • DemonicLemming

I like the band, I just think they could do a lot more and be a much more substantial band than what they are now.

        • http://www.myspace.com/somethinglikesweet CJ

This new album is really good.

          • Brian \m/(-_-)\m/

Wonder What’s Next is their best though. I just saw them in Philly on Stimulate This! and they started off with the 1st song on Sci-Fi Crimes, Jars was in there somewhere, and the rest was off Wonder What’s Next. I guess they know that’s their best album too

Do Juggalos know what a CD is for? I thought they just toss them around like Frisbees.

  • Sammy

Hole Lee Fuck, Vinnie! You put the 4, way too close to the 50,000 and my mind tricked me into seeing 450,000 ICP albums sold!.

    • http://www.kingdomofnoise.blogspot.com MetalMatt

I thought he forgot a 0 between the 4 and 5 and then I saw 4,050,000!!!! When I regained consciousness, I read it again. Phew.

      • http://www.hibernum.net hibernum

Hah, I did the same thing. WTF 4 million albums? Hahahah.

  • uLy

Chevelle has always been a forgettable band.

  • politude

Looks like I’m gonna be the one guy who backs Chevelle, as usual. I really like the new album, I guess it’s not “metal” at all anymore, but the music is there, and they have finally stopped trying to follow the herd in terms of what is cool. Jars, Roswell’s Spell and Highlands Apparition are highlights for me.

    • Driven9

Not the only one bro. I think their new album is great. a solid hard rock album to listen to when you need a break from the constant screaming and double bass metal. Most of the metal sucks kids who shit on this band are just scared of anything on the radio or popular.

    • DemonicLemming

No, you’re not the only one. I like them, just not this album. Too many of the songs are just boring and bland and really don’t distinguish themselves from the others on the album. Vena Sera is good from start to finish, and for the most part (barring those goofy-ass acoustic abortions) Wonder What’s Next and This Kind of Thinking… are both good albums.

I know this album is more of a rock album than a metal one, but there’s just really nothing that great about any of it. There are two or three good songs, and everything else just seems like filler.

  • blow me

So we now know where robbery cash has been spent. Even the pimply faced cashier rolled her eyes when some douche slid the new ICP disc down the Wal-Mart counter.

  • West Virginia

had to do a double take, thought i had seen 4.5 million for icp

i know the douche bag community grows every day but not that much.

    they must be stopped.

  • twisted_freak

God damn crazy ass juggalo’s aye. Mental.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Matt-Dasher/30826541 Matt Dasher

    There is no God.

  • Jimmy

    I enjoyed Chevelle’s new CD.

  • http://www.welovemetal.com We Love Metal

Who? What? So confused. Who the hell are these guys

  • Bill

Chevelle is the worst band on a major label i have ever seen live. rehearsing your songs so you know them is a good thing. between that and just sounding like shit, they got booed.

  • Sean Pulatie

Hollywood Undead is to ICP as Chevelle is to Tool?

    Really?

I can’t even begin to rant about this. My head hurts too much.

    • http://www.myspace.com/somethinglikesweet CJ

Yeah. Pretty stupid if you as me as well.

  • Andy

“Sci-Fi Crimes” is pretty good, but pales in comparison to their older albums. I still say they peaked with “Point #1.”

And holy crap, I didn’t realize there were still that many retarded ICP fans still around. Ouch.

  • Patrick

I like “Sci-Fi Crimes” more and more but it definitely isnt as good as their previous three albums.
Stand out tracks for me are “Mexican Sun”, “Jars”, and “Roswell’s Spell.”

  • seba

I’m from Argentina, could someone tell me what a juggalo is?

    • Sam

A juggalo is bum white trash who can’t read nor write & have no teeth in their mouth. They smoke & drink all day & follow in the footsteps of their idols, Insane Clown Posse by wearing makeup to look like clowns.

  • WetpantsDrygitch

Not a Juggalo, but I am indeed a fan of their music. I don’t defend Juggalos (hell, they do it to themselves, taking shit way too serious), but I do have to address that “Bang Pow Boom” was, in fact, a pretty damn good album (considering I think icp has put out two solid, good from start-to-end albums).
I have played it around a fellow metalhead, who previously hated the clowns, but after listening to more of Bang Pow Boom, he picked up the album, as well.
You just can’t get over the biased view, and that’s due to the ridiculous image of the juggalos. That’s sad that it’s restricting you from having a good time/laugh listening to ICP records. I find their shit funny, not a way of life, like most of these wrestling-addicted americans.
