Holy shit there’s a lot of good music coming out Tuesday. In addition to new albums from Living Colour, Megadeth, Shadows Fall and Dying Fetus, The Black Dahlia Murder’s latest, Deflorate, drops via Metal Blade. And the entire album is streaming right now at Revolver.

I love this record. But I don’t know if it will do anything to win over anyone who hates The Black Dahlia Murder. This is a band that has evolved as musicians and songwriters, but haven’t strayed very far from their musical roots. So if you’ve enjoyed BDM in the past, you’ll most likely enjoy this; if you haven’t, you won’t. And if you’re not familiar with The Dahl (I’m starting a new nickname for them… think it’ll catch on?), now’s a good time to check ‘em out. ‘Cause Deflorate rocks.

        I’m with you. Not a big Miasma fan. I think Nocturnal edges out Deflorate by an extremely narrow margin in my book.

          i agreed at first that Nocturnal was better but trust me the more you listen to deflorate the sooner youll realize that this really is their best work to date.

      I definitely wouldn’t say it’s a let down. It’s still a killer album. But it doesn’t grab me in the same way that Miasma did after the first listen.

      Yes! This and Nocturnal is them perfecting their sound. But they all rip anal.

      Start with Unhallowed, and don’t be a prick about the production. The songs are amazing despite not being as pretty sounding as their later albums.

    they are far from disappointing with this album, this is their best album yet.
    the dahl’s consistently been my favorite metal band for years now. i mean miasma was ok, but the riffs were still good.
    then nocturnal came and made things all better.
    then deflorate comes out, and we all know that they’ve evolved and progressed for the better.

    New Mark Knopfler record too…probably the most badass guitarist of all time.

    Oh and Uncle Cracker’s new one is out Tuesday too. He gets covered often enough by this site.

    I’m really looking forward to the new Megadeth and Shadows Fall albums. Budget for the new music, for sure!

    And that new release thing WAS really helpful.

    I write all the cd release dates on my calendar and head straight for Best Buy at my lunch break. Who needs to eat?! I just need music…

    just listened to it. just shat myself. this record rips. gotta agree…miasma might have been their worst, but it was still an ok record.

    can we talk about shannon lucas? he’s on my favorite drummers in modern metal. (inferno for behemoth is #1) oh, and fuck john kempanien (sp?)! ryan knight can fucking SHRED.

      i totally agree. Ryan Knight brings that slight techincal touch from Arsis, especially in his solos. hes exaclty what this band needed.

    This was the band that really got me into the extreme music arena. I saw their video on M2, and thought ‘hey holy shit, they don’t look like overweight longhairs…. maybe there is a place in this for me’. So glad I got into it. This record fucking kills.

    Yep, listened to this already. Only one thing to say. SOLOS! These fucking SOLOS! This new guitarist can rip man, I already thought the solos from Nocturnal, my personal favy from the dahl, where killer but these surpass them. Still like Nocturnal more for the time being, maybe once I hear this as many times as I’ve heard Nocturnal, I’ll change my mind.

    And yes, Miasma is still their weakest offering.

    unhallowed and miasma were just the beginning and hopefully this album is faaarrrr from the end
    and i agree ryan from arsis is just what they needed he adds a whole new level of fucking sick
    every song is killer this album def did not disappoint
