SATURDAY SONG TO REMINISCE ABOUT THE 90S TO: JANE’S ADDICTION — “THREE DAYS”

Jane's+Addiction+-+Ritual+de+lo+Habitual“Metal” or not, I think we can all agree that Jane’s Addiction was a truly awesome and original band, and their seminal 1990 album Ritual de lo Habitual still sounds like nothing I’ve ever heard elsewhere.

If you don’t have this album, go mug an old lady for cash and buy it — yes buy — immediately.

I won’t be too surprised if this doesn’t generate too much conversation from your usuals, since it’s actually amazing and the general consensus around this site is that Gojira is riveting-next-level-shit.

This is my personal favorite Jane’s addiction track as well, very happy to see some varied content outside of the “scraping genius off the wheel” department.

Also, everyone should probably just trade in their Slipknot and Metallica cd’s in instead of robbing old ladies.

    • Gospel of Madness

Gojira is hardly next level anything.

As far as Janes Addiction is concerned, they suck.

Perry Farrel is a complete assclown, and they never released anything interesting.
I remember when MTV started regular rotation of that on track about stealing and thinking it was completely over rated.
Upon hearing other songs off the same album, I was bored to tears.
They just have a nitch fanbase of like minded assclowns like a lot of other bands that are completely insignificant.
Kudos to Navarro for nailing Carmel Elektra, that about the only positive thing I can say.

Gojira is lame, I don’t understand why every likes em. Well then again ppl like Job For a Cowboy too so I guess it makes sense…

As for Jane’s Addiciton, meh, nothing special and the vocals always annoyed me.

        • I’m not racist, but I hate Oceano

If you don’t like Gojira you are an idiot. There. I said it.

I like Gojira, but i really don’t understand all the hype around them. Good band, but nothing amazing.

  • Exemplars One

    Most def. These guys rock.

  • Bob

    hell fuck yeah
    ahhh memories

  • Kyle

Hate to rain on the feel good parade here, but I fucking hate this band and have nothing but vtiriol for Perry Farrell and Dave Navarro. Go cry about Metallica playing your piece of shit festival. Fucking maggots.

    • SP420

      This.

    • Kuranes

My roommate in college played this on his acoustic guitar, badly, almost every day. While they’re all talented as musicians (even if Perry Farrell has one of the most annoying voices in rock), if I were to reminisce about the 90s I would put on some old Amorphis or Type O Negative. And if I never hear “Been Caught Stealing” again that would be just fine with me.

Totally agree about Perry Farrell, but I gotta disagree about the band as a musical entity. They made some great songs. Maybe not great albums but some really great songs.

I’ve never really liked Jane’s Addiction. Granted, most of my exposure to them has been through ‘Caught Stealin’ and ‘Jane Says’, which seem to be the only JA songs that ever got played on the radio, but They do nothing for me. Oh, and Perry Farrell’s voice makes me want to jam a fork in my ear canal.

    • braincake

i believe nothing’s shocking would change your mind.

ritual is a great album, but so is nothing’s shocking. with songs like ocean size and mountain song….yeah.

  • Sylvester

Love this song, love this album. Front to back, it’s a pretty killer piece of work.
There is a strange vibe to it that always appealed to me.
It got me through a really rough patch in my life, therefore it will always hold a special place in my collection.
Even the douchbaggery of Perry Farrel or that media whore Dave Navarro can’t ruin that.

It is a spectacular song and album, i have loved JA since i first heard them so many years ago despite their being way outside of my favorite genre of music.

  • stink-pucker

…not as good as grim reaper, or ‘possesed’ by venom.

    I hate feelings.

  • Futmampfer

    Great!!!!!!

E-RO-TICK JEEEEE SUS! AND HIS MAAAAARYS!

…who didn’t love shouting along to THAT in high school?

At the time Three Days was more or less my introduction to epic songwriting in pop music. Drugs are bad, kids.

  • Jerome

Excellent live band, Perry’s awful voice aside. That said, you couldn’t go to a party anywhere and not be subjected to JA. I haven’t listened to them of my own accord for well over a decade, and I don’t miss ‘em one bit. Fuzzy ’90′s memories are generated (for me, anyway) by Entombed, Amorphis, Neurosis, King Crimson, Mr Bungle, Iced Earth, and a shit-ton of underground crusty punk bands.

  • deathray76

If you can’t appreciate this album then you were either too young or you just weren’t there.

    OK…

#1 Jane’s Addiction was more “metal” than “alternative” during this era than most bands..

#2 this song is freaking EPIC! one of the first bass lines I learned to play and just an amazing start to finish song on a classic album.

Makes me glad I’m not one of those “If it’s not br00tal, then I don’t want to listen to it” guys…..

Thanks to Metalsucks for posting this as the SSTGST song… it’s been that for me for almost 20 years!

    • Aleezy

Absolutely on #1. Heralding more from heavy arena rock than avant-artiness a la Sonic Youth.

With this song, the connection with a band like Tool becomes more clear.

I saw the reunited JA play this at Jones Beach this summer. They opened the set with it and completely kicked our asses. I admit I never liked Jane’s until an old friend got me both very drunk and very high and then the music all clicked and made sense. But my favorite song of theirs is still “Summertime Rolls….”

  • bucketochicken

Great band, even better album, awesome decade.

  • Enjoy Guinness Extra Stout

Wank wank wank, wank wank, wankwankwankwank. Wank you and goodwank.

i would put nothing’s shocking and ritual de lo habitual up there with smashing pumpkin’s gish.
