ALICE IN CHAINS’ “CHECK MY BRAIN” DESERVES A COOLER VIDEO

Monday, September 14th, 2009 at 10:46am by

Did Alice in Chains blow their entire budget on the excellent “A Looking In View” video? Their new clip, “Check My Brain,” finds them standing against a green screen while the director places the most clichéd images available behind them (e.g., The sun burst right when the band sings “So I found myself in the sun.” How imaginative.).

Barely matters. The song is awesome, and the band’s new album, Black Gives Way to Blue, seems pretty much guaranteed to be awesome, too.

The video is an MTV premiere, which means that a) those of you who live outside the States might not be able to watch it and b) those of you who can watch it will get a shit quality stream anyway. Oh well.

Black Gives Way to Blue comes out September 29.

The video is fine. The song is so awesome, it doesn’t matter.

I think the video is quite cool actually… Straight forward and lets you focus on the awesome song…

It’s not the best video released this year, but it’s not that bad either. Would have been a bad video if the song was longer though, it is pretty repetitive.

I gotta say, the new Alice In Chains has stirred up a lot more interest in me than the old version ever did.

you made it sound much cheesier than it actually was. consider me pleasantly surprised by AIC mark 2. i thought that replacing layne would be an embarassment, but the new shit’s none too shabby…

Music is awesome. Lyrics = terrible.

Pssst… the record comes out 9/22, not 9/29.

      Pssst… no it doesn’t… It’s out on the 29th… Well, 28th for us Europeans…

video’s ok. ut’s like saying the video for “we die young” was crap just because it had a non-existent budget.

on the topic of aic videos, i hope they do another claymation video (“i stay away”). epic. yes.

The video is alright, but the song sounds rather like something from Cantrell’s solo album Degradation Trip. It wasn’t bad, but it definitely wasn’t Alice in Chains.
Still, Looking in View gives me hope…

I’ve been kind of off the radar when it comes to the new AIC so I honestly hadn’t heard what their new singer sounded like.

Dare I say he is almost “Layne-ish sounding”? Not a bad song, but thejamminjabber is quite right…lyrics not so great, haha.

i liked it, it fit the trippy vibe of the song.

Duvall plays guitar too? Cool. But, is it just me or is he trying to move like Lenny Kravitz??

    This album is gonna kill!

You guys love IWABO, how much did the video for TLKB cost?

i didnt really like the video or the song, that repetitive guitar in the background ruins it for me. It gets really flippin annoying after a while…id hate to hear this song on repeat…im not much for california either and i have to agree the lyrics are terrible too. i like alice in chains, but this one was a failure. maybe if it wasnt for that damn repetitive guitar id be ok with it, it just makes it seem so, generic i guess.
