KATATONIA WILL NOT “FORSAKE” WHOEVER LEAKED THIS NEW TRACK
Monday, September 14th, 2009 at 1:30pm by Vince NeilsteinBut lucky for us, the track is really fucking good [thanks: SMNnews.com]. It’s called “Forsaker” and comes from Night Is The New Day, the new album from progressive metal masters Katatonia. The record drops on November 10th via Peaceville Records, and I personally can’t wait to hear what’s in store.
Keep up with the latest news from the band at NightIsTheNewDay.com.

Been listening to this nonstop for awhile.
I like their new direction. It’s a lot weightier and doomish.
It wasn’t leaked. It was released by the record company. Pretty good track. Katatonia has always been one of my favorite bands. I’m anxiously awaiting their new release. I’m also happy that there’s finally a post about a band that’s actually good.
FUCK YES
FUCKING FINALLY
FUCK YES!!!
Katatonia, Insomnium.
I am a happy man.
Yeah it wasn’t leaked. Make sure to sign up for the Peaceville newsletter for the download. Funny that the server is busy; I want to download it!
Lots of great music coming out this year. 2009 has been a great year for metal, much better than 2008 I think.
I’ve liked most of Katatonia’s discography, but this song is really underwhelming. The Meshuggah influence is just too much (especially the Future Breed Machine noise in the first 6 seconds). The chug riff is boring and not fitting at all to their style. The verses and the part after the second chorus are the only redeeming parts of the song, and both remind me of Viva Emptiness, which is a compliment.
Did you listen to the last album? I didn’t think this was a major jump in terms of the riffs. I’m not really sure what their ’style’ is in light of that – it’s not just one trick looking over their history.
Regardless, the clips from the whole thing on the minisite reveal this to be a – potentially – very diverse album.
OH. FUCK. YES!
Nice! I’d never heard of these guys before, they sound a bit like Opeth, mainly the singing, and I likes me some Opeth.
I’ll have to keep some tabs on these guys, good stuff!
I’m liking this. Hopefully they bring more heavy stuff on this one.
this is fucking amazing!!
omfg im sooooo fucking happy right now. this will be the best album of 2009, hands down
I love Katatonia, but I think they peaked on “Last Fair Deal Gone Down”. Everything since then has been hit or miss. “The great cold distance” had 4 or 5 great tracks, but a TON of filler as well. On that album they discarded the ‘weeping’ lead melodies that made up a big part of their sound. I hope they bring it back on this album….but Im not holding my breath for this one.
By the way, WHAT THE FUCK is ‘progressive’ about Katatonia??? give me one example, please. Or are you just talking about things you don’t know about as usual?
Actually, I’d say that their “Peak” was Viva Emptiness, which was extremely progressive and psychedelic. It was the first record where they really dropped their older “gawdy” sound and went for a more clean, heavy sound, and it really really worked for them. It’s not extremely progressive or experimental, but I’d say it’s as progressive as Tool.
With that said*** after listening to this song and the album preview, I’d say the new record shows a lot of potential. It seems like they brought back some of the psychedelic nuances that might VE so great.
” Progressive metal masters Katatonia “…
