It was the first record where they really dropped their older "gawdy" sound and went for a more clean, heavy sound, and it really really worked for them. Everything since then has been hit or miss. "The great cold distance" had 4 or 5 great tracks, but a TON of filler as well. On that album they discarded the 'weeping' lead melodies that made up a big part of their sound. I hope they bring it back on this album....but Im not holding my breath for this one. The Meshuggah influence is just too much (especially the Future Breed Machine noise in the first 6 seconds). The chug riff is boring and not fitting at all to their style. The verses and the part after the second chorus are the only redeeming parts of the song, and both remind me of Viva Emptiness, which is a compliment.
