        I’m not one of those jaded, hate-everything types AT ALL and I try to support heavy music in every way possible. I give everything a shot, and I like a lot of heavy music that, according to a lot of metalheads, is too commercial, too “soft”, or generally isn’t “cool” to like: Mudvayne, Slipknot, KSE, Chimaira, Shadows Fall, Trivium, Avenged Sevenfold (other than that last album…wtf), Hatebreed, In Flames, Soilwork, etc, etc; I don’t care, I think these bands put out great stuff, and I listen to what I think is of high quality.

        With that being said, I have heard FFDP AND OTEP and I think both bands are shitty (OTEP moreso). And yes, I have had the unfortunate experience of seing OTEP live as well…and that was about 40 minutes of sheer agony. So no, I don’t wish death upon the guys in FFDP, but I don’t think they are very good – there are TONS of better heavy bands out there you could be listening to, and TONS of better acts that Shadows Fall (a band I consider very good) could be touring with.

I guess I don’t have my finger on the pulse of the more mainstream , heavy music market because I didn’t know that people gave a shit about FFDP, apparently they are the new Disturbed.

    I liked the guitar solo, but the cookie cutter formula is predictable like always, it’s produced crap, whatever, i didn’t hate it though.

      I really was impressed by 5FDP first album, they seem to going into a more Hard Rock / Alternative Metal approach with this album. Kind of reminds me of Drowning Pool. I didn’t care for this video, song is pretty decent though

      So, according to your argument, success/popularity = talent? So I guess that means Lady Gaga, Brittany Spears, and the Backstreet Boys are all astoundingly better than, let’s say, Slayer, Lamb of God, and every metal band ever, right? Yeah, I thought so.

      I’ll admit, musically, FFDP is far away from being “the worst” metal; hell, I could name two hundred bands off the top of my head who are a lot more terrible. The reason this band sucks, however, is because it’s overproduced, teeny-bop bullshit, marketed through their image of being a “badass” metal band. Their success, like the success of the very similar and equally horrible Hell Yeah project (who also sell out venues all over the place and are deemed as “amazing” live), can be attributed to nerdy kids (see: the kid in the metal shirt called a “loser” and “dork” all his life), ranging from age 10 to 20, who somehow feel empowered by relating to lyrics like these, from the song “Ashes”:

      Where did this band come from? It seems to me that they fell out of the sky and landed on a video game soundtrack. I could be totally off-base, but I’m from the East coast, and I feel like no one here has heard of this band until like last year. I guess I don’t get this whole Motorgrater, Drowning Pool, Disturbed nu-metal/heavy rock scene (if you can even call it that); I’ve never seen small club/bar shows with bands like this.

      I’ve seen them live twice, picked up a free CD from one of the guys (that they were all happy to sign for me) and even saw Motorgrator at Ozzfest 03 (not having heard of them before that day). I hate to “talk shit” on these guys, because they are obviously talented and Ivan Moody does have a great voice and presence, but it is very cookie cutter. You can listen to their CD and go “there’s a Sepultura riff, and an Anthrax riff, and a Slipknot riff.” And Ivan’s lyrics are just way too juvenile for my taste, I work with mentally ill teens that write poems of about the same quality. Which sucks to say because Ivan is a genuinely nice guy. He’s always the life of the party and goes out of his way to make sure everyone is having a good time, even if your just some guy that missed the show and showed up for the after party.

At least Corey can be poetic at times, albeit in a silly way. And Chad Gray lost all credibility when he got off drugs (post-LD50; hmm I wonder why Mudvayne immediately started to suck) and when he wrote the supposed masterpiece “Hell Yeah” off the album Hell Yeah by the band Hell Yeah! Pshhh give me a break.

        And mind you, I have no idea what “trve” or “br00tal” or any of that shit is really even supposed to mean other than elitist bullshit. I don’t think black metal or death metal or whatever specific sub genre is what defines what metal should or should not be, but FFDP simply sucks.

          None of the so-called obscure bands I listen to sound anything remotely like the bands you posted.

          The bands you should be listening to are bands that are not in your field of vision, music that challenges not only boundaries of what metal should be, but break the mold from the cookie cutter bands like Slipknot and LoG…ect.

          Although I tend to loathe most of the recommendations that Metalsucks promotes ( The Destro was pretty spiffy though) Atleast they think outside the box sometimes.

          Most of the music I listen to doesn’t sound like anything you will hear on Headbangers ball or rock radio which is why I like it, I have become set in my ways when it comes to metal, I can’t stand trendy music….most of it is shit, with a few exception like Mastodon.

          The thing is….most of the popular music has a certain sound tailored for mass appeal, which is completely unacceptable as long as bands with real talent struggle to tour and release albums…

          The playing field is uneven…maybe it’s suppose to be that way, in any case….I’m one of those people who are always looking for obscure bands, because the often overlooked artists are usually doing something exciting and original.

          How people can tune in to band like Slipknot and find it anything other than boring tripe is completely beyond me, but… have fun with your lackwit clone bands, you’ll wise up eventually or drop out of the metal scene all together at some point.

    All I can say is wow. For Metal being a Paria to the rest of the music world and metal heads who are supposed to stick together and be holding their ground and middlefinger to the MTV nation and the rest of the world, you all sound like a bunch of little school kids. This is one persons opinion and some people are getting all bent out of shape about and it is lame. I happen to love 5FDP and Slipknot, am I a Hot Topic person? No. Am I Mall-core or whatever because I like SOME Lamb Of God songs and love Iwrestledabearonce? No. And that is because I dont waste my time hating on a band(s) that other people happen to enjoy, I just listen to what I like and say fuck everyone else. I think Slipknot and 5FDP are a form of Metal, they just found a formula that works. It doesnt make them less Metal by any means. They are heavy, aggressive and know how to tear shit up live. So they got into the mainstream a bit , wouldn’t you love that if your band could have that kind of status? Wouldn’t you want your music to get to as many people as possible? I would. I wouldn’t change much musically if that happened and if I did it would be strictly for the sake of art. Not money. Say what you want about Slipknot selling out for money or whatever because I know for a fact that isn’t true. I have roadied for them before and they never speak of that kind of stuff it is always about music and music alone. They know they got super lucky. I am sure it s the same with Death Punch. Why do you people even waste time arguing what is Metal and what isn’t. If you know Metal then what is it? How does it differ from bands that get lucky enough to make it to the whole world? I really want to know this. And can you tell me that just because I listen to Slipknot and 5FDP that I dont know anythiung about Metal after I say I am really into bands like, Gorgoroth, Burzum, Decapitated, Old School Dimmu Borgir, Opeth, Enslaved, In Flames, Stapping Young Lad, Shadows Fall, Otep, Leng T’che, Meshuggah, Lost Soul, Esoteric, Celtic Frost, Vader, The Berzerker, Gojira…etc. If you say I know nothing about it then, once again spit it out. What is knowing Metal?

    How the fuck can you say Slipknot and Mudvayne are not metal… I will give you Mudavayne present day isn’t metal but their old stuff (LD 50/50 etc) is true metal. Chad Gray has an amazing voice and can scream his fuckin’ head off… Corey Taylor and Slipknot aren’t metal? Come on now you little troll… If Slipknot isnt metal how about you ask all the up and coming underground metal bands what their influences were because I will almost garuntee they will list Slipknot… Just a little background on Mudvayne by the way… They are from Peoria, Illinois and if you don’t know much about the town I will tell you now… They have some amazing underground metal bands… If you don’t believe me do some research and get back to me…

    I’m not trying to burn on anyone or anything but to say FFDP isn’t metal and Ivan doesn’t have an amazing voice is just dumb to me. Ivan’s vocals aren’t so distant in relevance as his ‘Motograter’ material. Please stop dissing a band because as far as I know… None of us are making the kind of money, or getting our asses booked on international tours. Be fair, if you don’t like them say you don’t like them but don’t discourage on them, and when you discourage their music you are invading peoples rights to hear it for themselves and make their own judgments… War is the Answer is a very good album and I think Ivan’s voice is amazing, not to mention the massive shredding Zoltan and Jason do on this album.

    5FDP is a good band….they put on a great show. They are more metal than lame Papa Roach and a worse band then 5FDP is fucking Attack Attack…fuck crab core. They suck and shouldn’t be where they are. Even worse than Attack Attack is Dragon Force…who wants to listen to that shit. At ’08 Mayhem Fest, I couldn’t believe they were there and was so glad I didn’t have to hear them perform. At this year’s Mayhem Fest, before Slayer and Mansion were on the stage more than half of the people were leaving and said that they have sucked at previous festivals on the tour…..they should not be considered metal or famous. Slipknot is good and Corey Taylor does not suck nor does 5FPD….they are both metal enough bands to me. They both have worked very hard to get to where they are and both deserve to be where they are. Metal Hammer is an amazing metal maganize, it has a lot of good stuff in there and so does Revovler.

I mean damn I liked Ivan Moody, FFDP’s vocalist for those who don’t know, since I heard his ghost machine album. I will follow his new shit because while it may not be my favorite shit in the world it’s something decent to listen to. I mean with all this bashing it’s just fucking dumb. And I keep seeing all this hate for LOG. I mean damn I was a metal director at my college radio station and we got their first album and I was blown away. Since then I’ve found things I may like better but just because they’re popular doesn’t mean I’m going to stop listening to them. Shit I feel like I got into before everyone else, like what I heard and still drink from the kool aid they are serving. I mean it seems like sometimes that just because someone gets popular the hate has to come out, which is all fine but no reason to get into heated arguments over the shit. The only thing worse is when the fan loved the band and suddenly hate all that they do because they’re popular. Totally messed up shit.

    1. They have a hardcore, thrashing sound and guttural vocals mixed with harmonic melodies and good lyrics.
    2. They give an ability to express your inner anguish through music or simply have some hardcore fucking fun!
    3. Finally, FFDP has the right image to put out the public and is good live!

    Now you hating mother fuckers, I’m one of those teenagers who knows good music and has spotted it IN FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH. They are a good band, deserve their success, and have worked HARD to get it!

    If you even THINK about hating on them, you better fucking check your goddamn mouth before it opens. Just because you don’t understand why they are good, you don’t have to hate them.
