In my misspent musical youth I've auditioned drummers that can't keep time, have no chops, slow down and speed up during a song that's supposed to stay at a constant bpm amongst other musical maladies.... And after getting a couple Dio albums iTunes started recommending hair bands like Bang Tango and The Bulletboys. My iTunes must think I'm a Jersey mall chick or something. Death Magnetic has some good riffs, sure, but these guys were inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame for fuck's sake. The Black Album (which sucks just as much as anything they did after it, IMO) has sold more copies than the fucking bible. Don't get me wrong, I like some songs from their first 4 albums, but they've shit all over their legacy. I understand why people who grew up in the 80s when Metallica were awesome and drunk have a hard time letting go, but the damage they've done to their legacy ensures that metalheads will heartily crack Metallica jokes for years to come.
