FUCK TO THE YES: TITLE TRACK FROM CONVERGE’S AXE TO FALL AVAIL FOR FREE DOWNLOAD

axetofalllargerAxe to Fall is not better than Jane Doe. Sorry. It is, however, easily one of the best albums of the year, and very possibly Converge’s most “metal” (as opposed to hardcore) offering to date (Except the last couple of songs… which are doozies. I won’t spoil the surprise.). The album Slays with a capital “S.”

The title track is now avail as a free download from Spin, of all places. You’ve actually heard a rough version of this song before – remember that album teaser video the band released way back in March? – but it’ll rip you an even bigger bunghole with the vocals in place.

      i’m with you here too– instrumentation is all well and good, but vocals are so off-putting that it takes away any points they would have earned in my book.

        honestly, man, the vocals are what really complete converge. jacob bannon is probably one of the fiercest, most frenzied sounding vocalists in aggressive music.

      Well, they certainly aren’t for everyone. A lot of critic/writer types really started jocking them after the release of Jane Doe, but I think it’s warranted. For my money, they are second to none in sheer ferocity. I can also understand how people can get caught up on the vocals (again, not everyone’s cup of tea), but I love the urgency and earnestness of J Bannon’s delivery. There is a definite goosebump-inducing rawness to them.

        The vocals didn’t bother me that much. The sound of 15 different songs being played at the same time did.

    Whats with people and thinking Jane Doe was their best album? Metalsucks writers like it the most, so naturally I must have a differing opinion. I am always right.

    I didnt like Jane Doe very much to be honest. I much prefer You Fail Me. Hopefully this album will become my favorite one

    I agree with Ben; You Fail Me is better than Jane Doe, and it happens to be my favorite album by Converge to date. I strongly urge anyone who’s on the fence with them to check it out.
