METALLICA AND MEGADETH GO TOGETHER LIKE ISRAELIS AND PALESTINIANS

Thursday, September 17th, 2009 at 1:00pm by Axl Rosenberg

Why, it was just yesterday that Rob Trujillo was saying if the Big Four tour goes down, “there’d be a lot of egos” to deal with, but that all the beef would be between Megadeth and Slayer, not, say, Megadeth and Metallica.

And then this morning we got a link to this clip from MS Maniac Manfred Nuggets:

Not that Hetfield’s voice sounds so good these days, but holy shit, is that fucking funny. And proof that there’s no love lost between Hetfield and Mustaine.

Sorry, Rob.

Thats definately the pot calling the kettle black. James’s Vocals have been garbage since the Black Album. No room to talk.

    • Gospel of Madness says:

Agreed, i’m not a huge fan of Megadeth but Hetfield’s vocals suck donkey balls.

      • alexwank says:

        fucking disagreed.
hetfield may throw a few more ‘wooo yee heeeehs’ in these days, but he’s at least still a decent singer, if now a bit bland .

mustaine, unfortunately, never has been any good. that nasally twang is horrible… and i am a bigger fan of megadeth than i am of metallica.. the vocals were just one of those things you had to tolerate considering the music was so good (1st four records anyway)

the whole thing makes me ponder why dave tried to sell out w/ Risk and the litany of other lame-ass albums he released. if he was going to write pop songs, he should have at least affected a more commercially palatable singing voice.

    • Mark Gavin says:

I thought Black Album was when James’ voice was at it’s best. The album itself is mediocre, though.

      • Gospel of Madness says:

Hetfield sounded better when he wasn’t trying to sing.

        Master of Puppets ruled.

If I wanted to hear singing in my metal, I would go listen to Nevermore or Dream Theater.

        • alexwank says:

that’s balls in vice style… (which i loathe)

there’s a happy medium to be struck between ‘not trying to sing’ and the guys who love the high notes….
Chuck Billy prior to ‘Low’, for example?

      • Kyle says:

Yeah, I thought his voice was great up through the early 90’s then he just sorta lost it.

  2. WOW – this shit has to stop, its been like 30 years

  3. Reznik says:

    I hate thrash metal

  4. Metal J. says:

Megadeth destroys Metallica. Hetfield’s vocals since the Black album have blown donkey balls. Too much ttime deepthroating Lars.

  5. Stabitha C. says:

Quitcher bitchin’. Regardless of Hetfield’s personal shortcomings, this is funny stuff.

    • jackattack says:

That’s what I was thinking. If we all got caught up in the three decade long string of bullshit between these two, we’d lose sight of the fact that that’s exactly what Mitch sounds like!

  6. Mike2 says:

old news, that was like 4 years ago…

    • Buttor says:

Actually it was last year at a french TV Show called Taratata in which they played a bunch of the then upcoming album. Anyway, I don’t see why this should be news as it was posted on the purpose of showing that there would be some shit going on between Metallica and Megadeth if the big four tour should happen.

  7. Honeynutzz says:

This is pretty old, is not?

  8. Mike says:

This video is at least a year old if not more. I’m still holding out hope for this tour.

  9. bucketochicken says:

My Metallica t-shirt can beat up your Megadeth t-shirt.

  10. Anthony says:

Yep, when Metallica lightly teases Mustaine it’s the end of the world and we get a bunch of “eww Metallica fucking sucks!” posts.

Mustaine has poked fun at the guys in ‘tallica before, and probably will do so on many more occasions, and people will praise him for doing so.

  11. Josh says:

Is Trujillo contractually obligated to wear that metallica jersey all day every day?

    • Nate says:

Yes, it’s true. Since metallica hasn’t ever GIVEN a damn about their bassist… i mean, when was the last time you’ve heard them even MENTION anything in remembrance of cliff?… The only reason he’s there is to look cool.

      • Josh says:

I thought Jason Newsted looked badass with metallica. He was the face that I associated with them until I was old enough to learn about them. I could understand his departure if this is how the rest of them see their bassplaying position being excercised

        • Nate says:

Pretty much… thats why they hired newsted in the first place… ALl in all he’s not a BAD bassist, he’s solid, but not good. If you read interviews, they complain a lot about Cliff’s “overplaying” on the early albums… Basically what it comes down to is, they’re not a bass-centric band, and they knew Newsted wouldn’t mind having the bass turned into a more subtle position… Go listen to …And Justice For ALl and tell me if you can hear the bass lol.

          • thebenthic says:

man cliff was the best thing metallica ever had, and i heard that on tour they play orion and supposedly before and after they play it they say heres to cliff! i also heard that they never played orion before live with newsted because he wasnt good enough to play it, and trujillo is good enough to cover cliffs parts.

    • pretty sure metallica article 7 section IV states that all bass players must wear metallica shirts and/or jerseys

  12. Nate says:

It’s funny when Lars tries to talk like he’s intelligent or a nice person.

  13. Ryan says:

hahaha. dave is a terrible singer. but great songwriter.

  14. Erin Andrews says:

    Old ass video

  15. Dave is a far better singer AND a thousand times better guitar player than James IMO, but they both have written a variety of good songs, along with plenty of shit ones throughout the past few years.

  16. zhitnik says:

Look, they are both shitty singers, and they were at their best when they didnt have to sing, just snarl into the microphone, like thrash bands did until about 1991. Kill ‘em all? Just pure drunken drugged up angry screeching voice. Same with So Far…nobody will say that Dave’s voice sounded “good”, but it embodied the spriit of thrash during that period. Getting wasted, being pissed off at the world, and channeling it all through some screams and snarls. I guess if you had to compare both their clean vocals, yea, James has the edge, but really, fuck the cleans anyway :-)

  17. Che Guitarra says:

Tom Araya kicks both their asses vocally, musically, and in just about every other form possible… except sucking. Hetfield and Mustaine got him beat in the sucking department.

  18. Vlad says:

don’t know why the phrase “lack of moral authority” came to my mind…

  19. MetalMatt says:

I love both bands but at least Dave’s voice has always been questionable whereas James’ voice has definitely gone downhill.

  20. vegan says:

get over your fucking past and do a tour and come to nyc with the other big 2

  21. unearth says:

This is funny stuff. MegaDave sucks
