SUPER FUCKIN’ METAL BROS.
Thursday, September 17th, 2009 at 3:00pm by Axl RosenbergWhen we were in high school, Vince played guitar for a band called Steel Breeze. Yeah, I dunno what the name means either, but they were pretty good, all things considered. Anyways, I mention it not to embarrass Vince (that’s just a bonus!), but because they used to cover the theme music from Super Mario Bros. And these dudes had the same idea, I guess.
I have no idea why it says System of a Down in the background. Do the mustaches strike the creators of this video as being particularly Armenian or something?
Two quick random thoughts about Mario Bros., while we’re on the topic:
- If they’re the Mario brothers, then their last name is Mario, right? So is Mario’s name Mario Mario? What the fuck?
- I just read this somewhere and think it’s brilliant: “Do you remember when you were a kid playing Nintendo and it wouldn’t work? You take the cartridge out, blow in it and that would magically fix the problem. Every kid in America did that, but how did we all know how to fix the problem? There was no internet or message boards or FAQ’s. We just figured it out. Today’s kids are soft.”

Steel Breeze sounds like a Spinal Tap album
This is a much better video pertaining to Mario Brothers.

Wow. You managed to come to the same conclusion with that whole “mario mario” thing as the makers of the shit Mario Bros. movie. Good job at sucking.
You are a jackass.
No, if I was an actual jackass, you and your whole inbred family would be trying to mount me right about now.
That line of the movie was the only thing good about it.
“Name?”
“Mario.”
“Last name?”
“Mario.”
“Mario Mario?”
“Yeah.”
“Your name?”
“Luigi.”
“Luigi Luigi?”
“Nah, Luigi Mario!”
It only says system of a down because they are trying to tie in a reference to metal after Nintendo Entertainment System. “Of a down” just happens to grant that allusion.
Nintendo Entertainment System of DEATH would be better haha.
That was the least clever thing I’ve read all day.
pwned!
lol that dude been Ben that commented above has managed to officially suck at life.
Mr Bungle does a great Mario song.Anyone ever hear that System Of A Down song about Zelda? That was pretty funny stuff.
Ok, for the record, anyone who still uses the phrase, “suck at life” is a complete and utter piece of shit. Also, learn how to write.
SOAD never made a Legend of Zelda song…see my comments below.
Axl, check out the exchange MetalInjection and I just had on twitter. There’s way more metal/Nintendo/rock goodness in there. Currently viewing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=80sJvVGuf_c
so true about needing to blow in the cartridge, or an alcohol swab, to make it work
Did somebody post this already? I can’t remember, but I do know that it’s way better than the other videos on here (except maybe the Dream Theater one) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBgMk4X9MzA
I’ve been doing VG metal covers for years, as have a bunch of friends of mine. I’ll just drop a few links to the past and be on my merry way:
http://dod.vgmix.net – a monthly VG remix competition that’s been going on for 4 years
http://www.metroidmetal.com – a perfect blend of metal, prog, and Metroid
http://www.concatenationrecords.com/vrc016.html – a pretty good collection of the heavier covers I’ve done
I’m not sure who did the SMB one, but they’ve got some chops for sure.
Oops, that first link should be http://dod.vgmix.com
I’ve heard a lot of metal covers of the Mario Bros. music, but this has to be one of the best ones. Although, I’m close to calling shenanigans over the fact that they also played some Zelda music right in the middle. Doesn’t seem right… what the hell…
SHENANIGANS!!!!!!!
They might have pulled the animation from this which is a 8 bit version of SoaD’s BYOB.

That was pretty fucking cool!
Wasn’t that solo near the 3 minute mark from Zelda ? I actually remember SoD made a song about Link (from zelda) with the very same solo on it.
The confusion here comes from the fact that a few years back there was this song floating around the internet about Link from Legend of Zelda that was mislabeled as being a System of a Down song. System of a Down never made a song about Link or the Legend of Zelda, the band that did coincidently souded somewhat like SOAD and Serj. SOAD has dispelling this rumor for close to a decade, but it’s obvious some people still think SOAD made a Legend of Zelda song.
here’s the fake “SOAD” song…this numbnuts has even synced up a SOAD live show to make the song like authentic…booo

oh yeah, apparently the group that made the Legend of Zelda song that everyone thinks is SOAD is named Rabbit Joint
how do people still think that sounds like SOAD? not even close.
I remember blowing on the n64 game. I also remember licking it…
I thought that kinda sucked actually.
theyres zelda in there. and yeah i remember doin that thing to the game cartridge
WHERE CAN I DOWNLOAD?!
You people need to get hip to The Minibosses.

I remember those guys from Sacramento
could Steel Breeze perhaps be from “Shine On You Crazy Diamond” by Pink Floyd?
Here’s a metal band that does covers of video game music and the guitarist has a guitar made out of an old Sega Genesis:

Power glove did it better.
Dr. Zilog is a pretty bitchin’ 8-bit metal artist. http://www.myspace.com/drzilog
yo
steel breeze is from the pink floyd song wish you were here.
effin kids these days, know nothing about music, much less metal. yer right, kids these days are so soft
