EXCLUSIVE FULL ALBUM STREAM: CORMORANT’S METAZOA
Monday, September 21st, 2009 at 1:00pm by MetalSucks
Well, at least one good thing came out of that day we let Ziltoid run the site: we ended up exchanging e-mails with Cormorant vocalist/bassist Arthur von Nagel (read Zilty’s excellent interview with Arthur here), who, we’re very pleased to announce, will begin writing a new column for MetalSucks, “Tiberian Vocalizations,” later this week.
To celebrate our blissful new union, we’re streaming Cormorant’s awesome new album, Metazoa, right here for the next two days. Produced by the legendary Billy Anderson (Neurosis, Brutal Truth, High on Fire, Mr. Bungle, etc.), Metazoa integrates elements of prog metal, death metal, black metal and folk metal into one truly unique, totally kick-ass package. Metazoa is Epic with a capital “E” – trust us when we say that you NEED to check out this record. And don’t forget to have a look at the lyrics – like Pig Destroyer and Primordial, they are a large part of the band’s sound and aesthetic and are very much worth your attention.
Metazoa comes out tomorrow via Saturnine Media. You can (and should!) order a copy through Cormorant’s official webstore. And don’t forget to check out Cormorant on MySpace for all the latest news and updates on the band!
Enjoy the album…
[this promotion has ended]

Zilty DID do very well with this interview – not that Mr. von Nagel made it hard on him or anything, but still. I’m looking forward to reading the column and to streaming the music for as long as ya’ll will let me get away with.
Cheers.
Afterthought: Where did Ziltoid go, anyway?
I’m here. I haven’t been posting much mostly because every time I comment, it has to be approved ( “comment is awaiting moderation”). Thus, I cannot argue or anything, which makes this significantly less fun.
Censored, eh? What is this, communist China?!
Fight the power!
Actually, I emailed Axl and Vince about it, and they said that they noticed it too and didn’t know why it was happening. Well, whatever. I’ve had lots of fun college stuff to do anyway that takes up most of my time, and I’ve noticed that the articles here as of late have seemed like much less fun to talk shit about.
Just throwing it out there, I pre-ordered Metazoa a few days ago, and it got shipped to me within two days over halfway across the country. And it’s my album of the year so far, and there’s really no contest here.
Long story short, this is an excellent album. And the pre-order packages are great as well.
Definitely album of the year thus far. I’ve been listening to it almost non-stop since I received it.
But is it available at retail outlets or just online?
It’s available online at The End and such on the 22nd, or you can just sneak in a pre-order package now and get an 11×17 signed poster. Also, I believe that you can order it through your local store, but I’m not positive. Contact Arthur through their myspace and find out.
what songs are the best off of metazoa? i can’t really listen to them all since my internet will get shut off if i download/stream a certain amount because of the fact that i have shitty direcway.
IMO, Scavengers Feast, Uneasy Lies the Head, Hanging Gardens, The Meigrant’s Wake, and Sky Burial
*The Emigrant’s Wake
typos, ugh
thanks!
I pre-ordered it because of you, when i got it (a full week and a half before officially dropping), it was their EP and the signed poster. E-mailed Arthur, got Metazoa two days later without paying any more shipping or anything and getting to keep the Lone Tree. Nice guys, great music, unfortunately have been stuck with listening to it through my half-blown-out car speakers.
I’ll need to stock up on the NoDoz to get through his column.
Awesome cover art, it is truly beautiful. Beautifully brutal music to boot.
Ziltoid certainly wasn’t on some bullshit when he won, and you guys scored big in the process.
This album is like a mix between elephant scrotums and kfc. hiya
it sucks for me
I love this album so much, thanks Ziltoid.
No problem, but give most of the thanks to Arthur and Cormorant. Besides the great interview, the album is awesome. This is one of those albums that you should be buying, not just downloading (for you pirates out there).
Incredible cover art… incredible album… wish I could download. :(
This sounded pretty good. Overall a little too cheesey for me. My pre-emptive Album of the Year is The Great Misdirect. CANNOT wait for new BTBAM.
Absolutely amazing album.
Also, for those who don’t know, they also have an EP out, “The Last Tree.” It’s nowhere near as excellent as Metazoa, but it’s still great nonetheless. The first four songs are more straightforward, almost melodeath style blended with their other influenced, and the last track, “Ballad of the Beast,” is just an excellent epic piece.
It’s available to purchase with the album as well.
By far one of the best albums I’ve heard in a long time
If you guys like this, you should really check out the new Be’lakor album.

I listened to this a couple times over my vacation… good stuff.
Stone’s Reach is a great album. Very Insomnium like.
I’m fucking loving this album. I can’t wait to read Arthur’s column too. He seemed like he had a great sense of humor based on his interview.
Fantastic album! I will be streaming this one for days to come; thanks for the recommendation MS and Ziltoid too.
I forgot to mention, I’m really digging the album art too :)
ditto. thanks. good stuff.
SO FUCKING GOOD. Everyone who claims to be a metal fan needs to BUY this album.
From what I’ve heard, I don’t get it. It’s boring. The riffs feel hackneyed and the production weak. I’d have to listen to more of it, but so far it doesn’t click with me.
You should read the lyrics as you listen to the music. I guarantee you’ll have a completely different experience, usually better.
I preordered this back when I saw the interview, got the cd a week ago or so, good stuff.
Listening to this now… good stuff, certainly an improvement over the demo. I don’t think it’s going to crack my top 10 for the year, especially with the release of the new Diablo Swing Orchestra album (which is fucking phenomenal for those who are open-minded enough to listen to an avant-garde metal band with a cellist) and with all the other new albums still to come (the new ones from Skindred, BTBAM, Them Crooked Vultures, and The Company Band all spring to mind immediately). But this is a good album.
DSO’s new album has been released? since when? i never heard anything.
It was just released today… it leaked a little over a week ago. And it’s fucking phenomenal, better than their last, I think.
Great news to hear about the column, and I just wanted to say I got my pre-order a week ago. I got the second highest pre-order package, and it was worth every penny. Album of the year for sure.
I accidentally the entire album. Is this bad?
I rarely buy albums, but I think this will be worth it.
you accidentally what?
The entire album.
Uneasy Lies the Head needs to be in Rock Band.
This is one album that will stand out in my eyes of all of 2009.
Thanks again Ziltoid for showing us a true metal gem…
Damn, just happened across this, gonna buy this for sure.
The lyrics to “Blood on the Cornfields” are so incredible that they made me cry the first time I read them.
hay ambar whats up ROFL XD
i am so fucking pissed right now that i don’t have a credit card… i want this album so bad! plus the t-shirts and posters… AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
anybody wanna buy me one of the combos and send it to me afterwards? :D please?
Just preordered it in time. Gettin’ me Metazoa, a shirt, a poster, and a STICKER!!! Hell yeah! My guitar’s gonna be warmer soon!
Like Opeth, only different.
Shit’s so awesome.
I’ve already scrobbled 300+ songs off of this album.
Their lyrics are pretty damn amazing too, I must say.
Only thing that might be able to top this is The Great Misdirect.
pretty damn impressive! opeth meets agalloch. and i don’t mean that as a slag! will definitely have to pick this up!
Truly a very high quality release. It’s especially interesting to listen to Metazoa immediately after their EP, The Last Tree; the progression between the two is very obvious, particularly after hearing the spectacular Ballad of the Beast closing out the EP and hinting at the less straightforward style of the new album. I’m not certain if I would call it the album of the year, but it certainly deserves to be considered for such a title.
I’m not very big death metal fan, but hearing this my initial thought is I didn’t know death could get this good.
It’s a lot like Catamenia. I’m a fan.
This is the subject of my first “Weekly Top Album” on my blog
http://brutaljay.blogspot.com/2009/10/my-top-album-of-week-according-to.html
So, I would like to thank MetalSucks and Ziltoid for turning me on to this amazing band.
On a side note; I noticed that on Last.FM, one of the top listeners of Cormorant is some guy named “Zithers”… This wouldn’t be you Ziltoid, would it?
