NICE COVER ART, ROB

Thursday, September 24th, 2009 at 4:00pm by

Was Rob Zombie never cool and I was just an idiot? Or am I right that he’s only recently become kind of a let down? I honestly can’t tell.

Anyways, even if we ignore the cheesiness of the fact that Zombie is obviously trying to cash-in on past glories by making a sequel album (Has there ever been a good “Part 2″ record? First person to say Operation: Mindcrime II gets a kick in the anus.), this cover art clearly comes from the Marilyn Manson school of “Have an intern whip something up on Photoshop.” Which is not only lame, but kinda weird: Zombie went to the prestigious art school Cooper Union.

HD2cover

You can do better than this, Rob. C’mon. Be cool again.

This is certainly the systematic dehumanization of cool! What a turd sandwich.

  • http://www.myspace.com/1033metal Jackson

does Danza II the electric boogaloo count as a sequel?

  • brian roach

No, you guys are right, he used to be cool, when he was in White Zombie!

    • canea

i agree. White Zombie might be the first and last good thing Rob did/does.

    • jason

I think it needs to be specified…White Zombie -La Sexorcisto and prior. Which equates to R. Zombie not doing anything meaningful in …oh, about 15 years.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jason-Crispen/100000169530540 Jason Crispen

ditto. the solo stuff sounds like the same song over and over again. and the shitty movie remakes just keep coming. get back together with White Zombie and pick up where La Sexorcisto left off.

        • brian roach

Agree, the last White Zombie album kinda sucked, so it was ‘La Sexorcisto…’ when he was last cool! :)

  • columbo

does “conspiracy” count as a sequel to “them”?
That’s the only album I can think of where I like the sequel, and would like another one.
Where King and Missy come back from the dead and mess with mother and doctor Landau :)

    • Jerome

Absolutely it does! And it IS great. And I’d venture to say that Edge of Sanity/Dan Swanö’s “Crimson II” is better than the original.

  • Double D

Does Danzig II: Lucifuge count? I’d say that’s a pretty badass sequel album. Also, the Zombie cover would look better if he didn’t have those stupid white band-aids above his eye. You have all those shittily-done stitches (which actually look ok) and then you add that pussy looking shit? I’ve been a Rob Zombie fan FOREVER, so I guess I’m a little biased.

    • deanerhead

No, Rob hasn’t been cool since his White Zombie days. Hellbilly Deluxe may have followed Astro Creep rhythmically, but the guitars sounded generic and dull. His music has gotten weaker since then and as a filmmaker his talents are overshadowed by his shortcomings. I really doubt he even wrote this album as a sequel to HD. More likely, he recorded it and his manager said, “You should call it HD2. That way it’ll sell more.” Rob then pulled a nonsensical subtitle out of his ass and his wife called him a genius.

    • deanerhead

Oh, and Danzig II doesn’t count. All of Danzig’s albums up to 7 were numbered, and 5-Blackacidevil certainly wasn’t a sequel to anything.

      • Double D

Numbered… meaning they were in sequential order. Sequential order meaning they were sequels…?

        • deanerhead

I’m pretty sure Danzig would tell you his records weren’t sequels but believe what you like.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ryan-Black/622666904 Ryan Black

    he was never cool imo…

    • Andy

Sure he was, back in the White Zombie days.

  • Zoker

Avantasia: The Metal Opera – Part 2!!!!!

AHAHAHAHAH Power Metal for the masses!!!!!

Actually, that was a pretty good sequel album.

  • Bill

    Use Your Illusion II

  • loose nut

only built for cuban linx 2

    • Double D

No way. Not even close to the original.

      seconded

      • Freedom35

        Thirded.

        • Sam

Fourth. Although, Raekwon’s new shit is amazing.

          • thisisnotcarlos

Fif,I still need to buy that raekwon album

  • Dave

Rob Zombie was cool until he started making films.

  • Bryan

Nothing is wrong with that typeface, and he went to Pratt, not Cooper Union.

  • BTK 666

Are you guys daft? Are you not aware that the Rob Zombie’s entire persona and subsequent art is based around cheesy b-grade horror. How many of you are missing the boat by as usual, taking the aesthetic etc. far too seriously. His name is Rob ZOMBIE for fuck’s sake. Dude is and always will be, a top shelf Dude.

    • Double D

I agree with Bind Torture Kill 666 on this one.

    • stu1

And that is ridiculously cheesy and done to death at this point.

      • BTK 666

        It’s his to kill.

        • Bryan

          Agreed. He started it.

  • Canvas Of Flesh

Seriously? No good sequel albums? Have you never heard of Abigail II, Crimson II, or any of Ayreon’s discography?

By the way, Rob Zombie sucks as a musician and director.

  • The Great Danton

    RELOAD

    jk lawl

    • GraZmus

Why is thaty a joke… It is better than Load easily…. Load is Metallicas most horrible album..

      • The Great Danton

Really? I liked Load better, I thought Reload was kinda pointless. Oh well, I liked St. Anger better than both of them.

      • Vlad

I’ve never like metallica, but I think Load it’s a cool album.. first (and last) time they dared to do something different besides recycling riffs

  • DecrystallizingReason

Jay-Z’s Blueprint 2 (and 3 for that matter) ((Yeah I said it, it’s good music, suck it trolls!)) and the Dethalbum II

    • Andy

      Good call.

    • Sam

Jay-Z sucks balls! He brags too much. I can’t listen to him for more than 5 mins. Why are we even talking about rap anyway. Let’s focus our attention on this hack Rob Zombie.

  • matt

Raekwon’s Only Built 4 Cuban Linx II is amazing.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Colin-OConnor/1491245262 Colin O’Connor

Rob Zombie? Allways been meh to me.

  • Weston

White Zombie definitely had more to offer than Rob has had in his solo career, but for you guys to say he “Meh” or “has never been cool” is totally bogus and you know it! Everytime Demon Speeding comes on you know you turn it up. I personally hope this record does really well and sells it’s ass off. It would be good for metal/hardrock genre in general, even if it comes at the cost of having to piggyback on the fame of his shitty movies….

  • Kevin French

Keepers of the Seven Keys 2 was better than Keepers 1.

  • http://www.welovemetal.com We Love Metal

Rob Zombie is a brand now, getting his face out on the cover is going to sell more records, even if he is one ugly ass.

  • Vlad

Ja! Ii was about to said operation mind… (maybe it’s not better but i really liked it) but i really apreciatte my butt…

  • No Name No Slogan

rob zombie didn’t start or originate anything he always has been and always will be a joke. he should stick to making movies.
