SMOKE WEED, SEE SLIPKNOT AND THE DEFTONES

Thursday, September 24th, 2009 at 3:00pm by MetalSucks

smokeout 2009 logoMetalSucks is sponsoring the return of the Smokeout Festival, which is being billed as “a two day mind-opening music festival and Cannabis Cup expo.” Sound interesting? Read on.

The event is taking place on October 23rd and 24th at the San Manuel Amphitheatre in San Bernadino, CA. Day one probably won’t be of much interest to most of our readers, headlined by Cypress Hill (the event’s curators) and featuring mostly hip-hop acts throughout the day; but day two is headlined by Slipknot with immediate support from The Deftones and also features Bad Brains, Pennywise and others interspersed throughout the day. Both days will feature all sorts of ganja-related madness; hemp industry exhibits, a glass art showcase, legal workshops and grow tip seminars, and a 4:20 movie night.

The best part: tickets start at only $29.50 for a two day ticket! Check back here soon, as we’ll be giving away a pair of tickets.

    No thanks.

    • Produced by Jacob Bannon says:

Somebody should email the guys at Metalsucks a link to this half-assed festival, that makes a hamfisted attempt at combining rap and metal. Ugh.

  2. msv81 says:

Slipknot headlining something like this seems very strange for some reason; the Deftones being there makes sense, I guess. Cool idea anyhow, wish I could make it out. Mayyybe if I win those free tickets.

  3. Ziltoid says:

I wouldn’t enjoy these bands no matter what drugs I was on.

  4. Bicro says:

    No, no, and no.

Please rename it the Sellout Festival.

  5. John says:

lol @ drugfreeworld.org add to the left of this article

  6. bucketochicken says:

hur hur hur, slipknot is popular gross

  7. $29.50, seems a bit high for me…. and I never though Cypress Hill would be mentioned on this site

  8. Haha fuck all of you guys, this is the best thing ever. I am going to do everything I can to be at this.

    Slipknot is awesome.

  9. tim says:

cypress hill, heiroglyphics, swollen members, kottonmouth kings, and immortal technique?
shiiit every rock band sucks on this tour, im going for the hiphop!!!

    • cosk! says:

fuckin heiroglyphics immortal technique, and cypress hill? shit that makes the whole thing worth it…. and i dont know why everybody here hates the deftones.

  10. bearwizard says:

this will be the gayest shit ever and i am extremely glad this is nowhere near the northeast.

  11. bearwizard says:

    forgot to add,

FUCK YOU for sponsoring this and actually giving away tickets.
i hope your parent company forced you to promote this shit because it is silly as fuck.

and this this will be depressing, not mind opening.

  12. I’m there for Devin the Dude.

I wonder if anyone is even going to be searched at the gate. I’ll sneak my way in as press, but, still. I don’t want to risk it.

  13. cougar party says:

That’s actually a really good deal if you like the bands performing.

  14. Colin says:

You guys are missing the point! They’re showing people how even terrible music can sound a little better when you’re high! Then you can go home and try it with good music

  15. Freedom35 says:

    Cypress Hill are awesome live!

  16. Malacoda says:

    why?

  17. Oh, this is just great. First Homer Simpson wrecks my pig, then Cypress Hill steals my orchestra, and now Sonic Youth’s in my cooler.

  18. RyanK says:

I’ll admit that the Deftones managed to make me like their latest 3 albums, and insane in the brain is fun I guess. If I lived in CA I would consider being there for the “glass art showcase.” Abstract bowl designs are so neat.

  19. Mitchell says:

How can this be considered a “mind-opening” music festival? All bands/artists aside, this will probably just be a bunch of burnouts standing around

  20. Kye says:

Love Slipknot, hate weed, Cypress Hill, and a very large part of the rest of this lineup.

Hope everyone enjoys the most annoying traffic jam in history leaving that place.

  21. Sean Pulatie says:

My wife calls me a “pothead that doesn’t smoke weed”. I enjoy metal, stoner flicks, Spongebob, and tacos. This festival looks awesome. If I had a way to California, I’d probably go. Have you seen the damn line-up? Christ. Seeing the Deftones alone would be awesome (better if they had Chi, but still awesome). Putting Slipknot on top of that (fuck you, they’re a fun band) and Bad Brains? Holy hell. The more I talk about this, the more I want to go. And $29.50 for both days? You can’t beat that.

  22. some1 says:

    omfg

    you bitches bitching about DEFTONES

all that fuckin bands are sucking but DEFTONES

    DEFTONES = quality music !!!

now get the hell outta here

  23. I think the problem is that people smoke too much weed and then listen to Slipknot and Deftones….

Sober up and then try to listen to that shit……..snoozfest!

    • Sean Pulatie says:

Um, I hate weed. HATE it. I think it’s the stupidest drug on the planet.

That being said, Deftones are one of the most original and creative bands of the last twenty years. And Slipknot has just been getting better and better. Their first couple albums were fun, but these last two have just been amazing. If you can’t see that, maybe you need to get off whatever drugs you’re on.
