STREAM DETHKLOK’S DETHALBUM II

Friday, September 25th, 2009 at 9:00am by Axl Rosenberg

dethalbum2Wednesday night Vince and I went to Metal Insider’s totally bitchin’ Dethklok/Dethalbum II listening party, and while we did drink a lot of dollar beers and mack mad bitches (and by “mack mad bitches,” I mean “speak very politely to platonic friends of both sexes”), we could barely hear the album ’cause, y’know. It was in a loud bar and we were talking to people.

So we get to hear Dethalbum II for the first time with the rest of you. But I’m 99.9% sure it’s gonna rock.

It’s streaming right here. Give it a listen. It comes out this Tuesday on Williams Street Records.

I’ve had for a while, it’s pretty good, about what you’d expect

  2. TJ says:

Loving what I’ve heard so far.
Sounds a little more brutal than the first album. And ‘Burn the Earth’ makes me wanna go punch some babies.

  3. BobFish says:

    “D D D D D D D D D D D D DIE”

  4. msv81 says:

A step above the first in terms of musicianship. Good shit!

  5. poopsmcgee says:

    brutal

  6. groverXIII says:

Good album… it doesn’t have the same comedy value as the first, and the vocals sound different somehow, but it’s a good album.

    • BrutalJay says:

The vocals sound different because Smalls has learn how to do high screams instead of having nothing but low growls. He has a lot more range now.

      • Malacoda says:

I disagree. He is TRYING to do high screams. IMO, they’re extremely underdeveloped and he should have keep working on them before recording Dethalbum II with them. I do agree that his lows have gotten better though, before they were pretty meh.

I would have hoped that the new vocals were a form of Toki, Skwizgaar, or even Murderface’s voices, instead of a new voice we’ve never really heard in the show before. Pickle’s voice would have been good too.

  7. Natalie says:

I believe someone at the party said something along the lines of, “The last album joked around and went hand-in-hand with the TV show… this one competes with some of the better metal acts around today.”

  8. Senior Swanky says:

It’s a real Metal album and less of a comedy metal hybrid.

  9. Mark Gavin says:

I’d rather have “Go Into The Water II” than “Mermaider II”, but I guess you can’t win ‘em all.

I’ll have to check this album out later.

  10. From the sound of this, there’d better be an episode next season where they try to hire a keyboard player. And then kill him, or whatever they want to do, but there’s more keyboards/synths on this album. Still, good stuff.

  11. BrutalJay says:

What can I say? It’s amazing. Probably better than the first one.

  12. Dave says:

    SO FUCKING GOOD.

  13. Cody Barrick says:

I just found the stream last night, listened to it a couple times, sent you guys an email, and listened to it again. All songs are great but doesn’t remind me of Dethklok a lot.

  14. Wyzt says:

    Dethboring

  15. HoustonC says:

Seems like they abandoned a lot of the comedy that made the first Dethalbum so great, and instead took a shot at making a legitimate metal album. Unfortunately they fell just short of making anything decent. It just ends up being a collection of mediocre songs with a couple highlights here and there and brief moments of comedic value.

  16. Kevin says:

    kinda boring

  17. taog36 says:

Wyzt, HoustonC, and Kevin, your all bad at music. Boring and mediocre?

    • Wyzt says:

Painfully mediocre. I own the first album and the main thing that had going for it was the comedy. the actual music didn’t stand up to repeat listening. This album isn’t funny, and they didn’t make up for it with more interesting music. They put on a fun live show, mostly because of the video playing in the background. They put on a tight set, but they are boring on stage, pretty much just stand in place without much goin on other than the video.

The album will still sell like crazy because of the show. I guess if you like shitty melodeath you’ll like this.

      • ibanezninja says:

the only thing painfully mediocre around here is your taste in music

        • Wyzt says:

Its kind of funny. Just now I went to Last.fm to look at people posting about the album. I opened about 50 profiles. Every single one that said the band was good had music that either wasn’t metal, or stuff like iwrestledabearonce with a FEW exceptions. All the ones that said it sucked had stuff like dismember, sodom, stuff like that. I find this to be an amusing observation.

MAMMY!!!!!! I’M FROM ALABAMMY!!!!! Leech Al Jolson!!

Yeah, the first greats blacks entertainer!!

  19. Dethklokfan#10000000000 says:

I honestly expected the album to lead off with ‘Takin it Easy’… I hope it’s on the Deluxe Edition I ordered from Amazon! $9.99 w FREE shipping!

  20. Tom says:

I think it sucks, and I’m not a metal snob…
The first album was fun and catchy and extremely head bangable, whereas this on takes itself way too seriously, and hurts itself in the process.
I bought this album to hear NATHAN EXPLOSION’s death vocals, not brenden smalls trying to impress people by doing more varied vocals.
This CD is lame, I’ll take awaken and birthday dethday over any shit song on this CD any day.
