THE “WHEELS” COME DOWN FOR THE FOO FIGHTERS

dave grohlIt’s hard to believe the Foo Fighters have released 6 albums already. That in and of itself would be impressive for any band, but toss in the fact that Dave Grohl has aligned himself with umpteen side projects (Probot, Queens of the Stone Age, Them Crooked Vultures, etc) and has continued to crank out hit after hit for the Foos, and it’s pretty damn astonishing. Here we are 13 years later, and the frickin’ drummer from Nirvana has penned so many hits that he probably had to make some pretty tough choices whilst whittling down tracks to be included on the band’s Greatest Hits package, coming November 3. AND the compilation has two new songs on it.

The Foo Fighters certainly aren’t metal, but Grohl’s got undeniable metal cred and an un-fuck-withable level of bad-assery. Even when he’s singing pure pop anthems like the new track “Wheels,” which I just streamed on the band’s MySpace page for the third fucking time in a row because it’s so good.

All hail Dave Grohl.

Got any insight on the latest country albums? I was getting bored checking this metal website for metal news and though, gee, wouldn’t it be sweet to hear about shit NOT metal related?

    • Diesel Computer

That is why this post had the tag “Not Quite Metal?” you beardo cock goblin.

      • builtforsin

I think you missed the point…

        • DidgeryDo

          Yeah he did

    • Martin

      Foo Fighters kick ass.

  • http://www.foofighters.com Tim-o-tato

I love the Foo. That guy reminds me of a way more badass Chad Kroeger!!! lol
    All hail the Foo…..

Plus, Everlong is fucking shit lol

    • Shingo

You should be shot for comparing Dave Grohl to Chad “I’m a fuckup beyond comprehension” Kroeger.

I like the new song. Hopefully their next release will be better than Echoes, Patience, Silence & Grace. I liked In Your Honour quite a bit.

  • bearbomb

The man is a god in my opinion. The Foo’s are one of the top 3 non-metal shows I’ve ever seen.

  • \m/Eluveitie\m/

    I wanna be Dave Grohl

  • jason

This dude gets respect. It would have been real easy for him to do a Nirvana knockoff band in the wake of Cobain’s death, and people would have eaten it up…but he didn’t and that’s enough for me. But for those who want/need more evidence of all-around-cool-guyness, see Pro-Bot or his drum tracks on “Songs for the Deaf.”

  • Pat

Isn’t he playing bassoon for Poi Dog Pondering next week? Or was it the boob-a-phone in his Spike Jones tribute act? Who can keep up with Grohl’s instatiable lust for all that is Grohl?

  • hikizume

    dave is the man

I wouldn’t mind more foo fighters and less sebastian bach on metalsucks

  • \m/Eluveitie\m/

    Rory fucking Gallagher

Shake your Blood is one of my favorite metal tracks of all time. Not only had Dave had some amazing accomplishments, but he must be a pretty good guy. The people that have worked with him are endless. From Slash to Will Ferrell.

    • cougar party

Shake Your Blood is a great song. I’m not a huge FF fan, but it’s amazing how much good music Groehl has been involved in since Nirvana.

      • cougar party

but “Learn to Fly” makes me want to kill people. I hate that fuckng song

  • cookie

Sounds like sheryl crow getting fucked by Tom Petty.

I expect to see this in a Chevy commercial soon. With pack s of horses running in slow motion.

    • Loser Excuser

As long as people like Cookie are still watching TV ads, Grohl’s recycled songwriting will have an audience. And didn’t Tom Petty fuck Sheryl Crow?

      • MightierBlue

        No. That was Lance Armstrong.

Dude has achive everthing based on hard work..I havent listed to the latest project with the base player from Zeppelin but I dig.. Much Respect To DAVE.. who knows maybe a ProBot 2 my arrive. With Fet of Lamb of God, Shadows Fall, Duval, Jasta and others ahhhhh I should stop dreaming

    • bearbomb

Phil Anselmo would be amazing too! I often dream of who he might colaborate with on Probot 2.

      • stu1

I’s imagine if there was a second one, you’d see more older/classic guys, like Tom Arraya, maybe even Ozzy, I could definitely see Anselmo, etc. Definitely not modern guys

  • Nithya

Mad, MAD respect to Grohl as a drummer, as a metal fan and a seemingly good dude -but seriously, his songwriting couldn’t be more boring, safe and predictable.

    • DidgeryDo

Actually it could be a LOT more boring safe and predictable. You are not being creative enough.

  • http://www.last.fm/user/groverXIII groverXIII

I don’t dig much of the Foo Fighters’ music, but I have a lot of respect for Dave Grohl… his drumwork on ‘Songs For The Deaf’ and ‘With Teeth’ is incredible, and Probot was pretty badass, and I’m ten kinds of hyped up about Them Crooked Vultures.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Mark-Gavin/1396340262 Mark Gavin

I really like that clip from TCV we’ve heard. I hope their release isn’t a let down

  • Facebook User

i’m glad there’s at least one band on the radio that doesn’t make me want to turn it off.

  • http://www.roxwel.com Pick-Axe Bobby

    Amen, Vince.

  • Dave

Grohl and FF are fucking great. Anyone who says otherwise enjoys rimjobbing the elderly.

  • Gaia

A new foos song is always good news. Been following grohl and all his side projects for years and every time he delivers. Not only that hes a freaking god! Get some fucking stinking bishop man!!

  • Jizzmaster3000

Foo Fighters haven’t done anything worth listening to since The Colour And The Shape.

        Best Foo Fighters song

  • Gary S.

I kinda hate this new song. It’s frighteningly Nickelbackish.

  • Nobody

Nickelbackish ?! More like Tom Pettyish to my ears…well…it’s only rock and roll…

  • Mitchell

No I’ll Stick Around on their greatest hits? booo

  • Fong Chung

Damn I love this new tune the Foo’s put out! Always enjoyed their cds, and respected their awesome song writing ability.

  • http://www.myspace.com/somethinglikesweet CJ

The Foo Fighters are one of my all time favorite bands. Fucking fantastic music.

  • Sam

I respect Dave Grohl because of Nirvana & Scream. I like the Foo Fighters also. And he’s an amazing drummer! And a solid guitar player. But when you perform “Holiday in Cambodia” by the Dead Kennedys on mtv vma awards when you know that band wrote a song called “mtv Get Off the Air.” It’s almost if he’s trying to convince the hipster & jock crowd to listen to something they know nothing about. I’m pretty sure Jello Biafra & the Kennedy’s didn’t make music for the masses to drink beer to while they party with Viacom. I like him but he does some silly shit sometimes.

Feel free to leave negative comments about how appalling this is.

  • mk

‘wheels’ is a TOTAL RIPOFF of ‘learning to fly’ by Tom Petty. its so close its embarrassing . he should have just done a cover version and been honest.

    disappointed in dave

  • http://www.youtube.com/cataclysm31 Rael

I find their new song is absolutely f**king horrible!
But I don’t like watered down poppy crap, so that may be why.
