THIS BLACK METAL GUITAR PEDAL MAKES YOU EVEN MORE GRIM

When it comes to black metal guitar pedals my first choice bar none is the Valnøtt, made famous by The Austerity Program’s Justin Foley. But MS Maniac Joseph Griesel sent us a link to the new Dragonfly BM-1 Black Metal Guitar Distortion Pedal, so trve and kvlt that production is limited to just 666 units worldwide.
The BM-1 advertises itself as “A tribute to the first wave of Black Metal of the 1980’s. Raw, primitive, old school Metal Tone!” And against all expectations, the thing actually sounds pretty damn good… check out the demo below.
While the BM-1 does admittedly deliver a pretty killer tone, we much prefer the Valnøtt for its versatility as a bass, vocal and drum pedal in addition to just guitars. Check out Justin Foley’s Valnøtt demo video after the jump.

Automatically takes all tone out of your amp and produces nothing but gain and high end. TIGHT!
srsly. All solid state, no warmth.
“…and don’t try this with a Metalzone pedal, because they yust suck!”

Well, do you know what all of the original KVLT black metal bands used for their distortion?………THe Boss METAL ZONE pedal. It is aweful, but if you read the old interviews, that is what they used back then!
i dont really get the Justin Foley thing. is that a joke (I hope so cause he is kind of a douche)
No, it’s real. It really is powered by a walnut.
I will never tire of that video clip. THE AUSTERITY PROGRAM FTW!!!!
I think a metalsucks gear section would be most welcomed here.
…well, I would.
Also, if you need some asshole to get lots of pre-release gear, make videos, and post/review them on this site, I can be that asshole.
“I can’ts dos its! I cant’s takes no mores piano lessons!”
I second that. Metalsucks would definitely be improved with a music gear section. If it got off the
ground you guys could probably make some advertising bucks off it too.
They could have gear contests too
SHIT TONE IST KREIG
Shouldn’t a pedal calling itself “BM” be a BM-2?
crap pedal
ha thats classic i wouldnt spend money on that
to be a guitarrist and pay for this to make it part of your sound be like being a runner and paying to have a leg cut off and then have the wound soaked in alcohol, all this while watching one of the sextapes your mom made with your old dog fluffy.
Basically, unless you’re insane and want to sound EXACTLY like your favorite black metal bands… Hell, I’m going to buy it, just because it looks bitchin’!
When Emperor recorded In the Nightside Eclipse, they just plugged their guitars directly into the soundboard. I believe the boss metalzone was used as a preamp on that one. Good times, bad tone!
So kvlt, it’s not in Guitar Center, yet…
BM-2 !! ha ha ha! I thought i was the only one….that second video was tits!!! lets have a music gears sucks area! start by comparing epiphones to gibsons…..and find out that gibsons biggest supporters dont actually own any gibsons……
OMG. I actually put on some Emperor records… Then i realized Ihsahn has an even better solo project, then I put that on. I’m going to buy this in case I ever decide I want to grow out a 3FT long beard and burn churches.
My really strong hate for all things Black Metal will definitely make me biased against this pedal.
Let me guess…this pedal makes it sound like you’re playing your guitar while inside a moldy garbage can full of wet newspaper.
haha I love how the Valnøtt pedal did exactly what I was expecting for the bass
that’s great and all… but can we have a comparison? ‘Cause for me, distortion is distortion… anybody could show me a real comparison of two different pedals?
How not Black Metal is a “Black Metal” pedal? Ulver supposedly recorded their third album in a goddamned forest on an 8-track. They probably didn’t buy their outfits at Walmart either.
hahaha awesome
why would anyone want to sound that shitty…
Why would anyone want to imitate any of the shitty black metal guitar tone?
I have a Line 6 amp, my guitar sounds like crap anyway so I don’t need the help this pedal would provide.
id love to help your tone..not that mine’s the best…but ive learned some inexpensive tricks…
I’ll take all the help I can get
Having listened to average sounding music (and gigs) played on great equipment and great sounding music made on average equipment I think all this hardware fetishism is shit. Valnott is ace, though.
