NOW THAT’S WHAT I CALL SLAM!

Here’s the heavy metal blog-crossover project of the season: Invisible Oranges‘ Cosmo Lee has recruited Metal Inquistion‘s Sergeant D (Hey, those names rhyme!) to “compile a mixtape that would be a slam metal primer.” The mix includes fifteen songs from bands such as Devourment, Putrid Pile and “Completely Unreadable Band Logo of the Week” alum Guttural Secrete, and can be downloaded for free here. The Sarge even wrote some “liner notes” about each track to help educate those of us unfamiliar in the ways of slam.

Bonus: Cosmo admits that “After listening to [the mix], I still can’t tell any of this stuff apart.” So at least I’m not the only one.

I dont know, I will never get this stuff. I tried to read the lyrics along with the Cephalotripsy song and I was lost in fifteen seconds. I must know, is this stuff popular or is this as underground as it gets?

I feel the same way. Hard for me to get into it. However, the Human Rejection song was actually not horrible.

Dude, gotta love the cookie monster burp vocals

I fucking love SLAM!!! Awesome work out music!
Oh, and Axl, I agree that it’s difficult to tell slam bands apart from each other, but you should definitely be able to distinguish slam from DEATHCORE!! Come on!!

Dude, fucking amazing. I’ve never heard slam before, and i’ve been a skeptic as, well, the genre name sounds like a bunch of “gangstuhs” dancing. Blew me the fuck away, although the low production on a few tracks gets to me, and the drums kinda take precedence is most of the songs. I will definitely look into these bands more.

Now Sergeant D needs to do a free mix-tape for the best Pornogrind bands!

The Sarge is a king among mortal men. He’s a hella chill dude who’s hipped me to more cool bands than I can count. Infernal Revulsion rules, as does Gorevent, check out their full-lengths. Disconformity, Glossectomy and Katalepsy deserve some kudos too.

Where the fuck is Dying Fetus?

I deleted the entire compilation after listening to about 30 seconds of babykiller

  • I’m not racist, but I hate Oceano

How could Sgt. D leave out Composted and Ingested? He’s off his game.

Slam remains the most hilarious genre of all music ever.

Good call on Ingested- I also left off a lot of TXDM that I would have liked to include like Prophecy and Sect of Execration, but what can you do??

  • Arthur von Nagel

This shit is awesome and hilarious. I can’t tell one band from another on this compilation, but who fucking cares? Such a shame deathcore perverted the pure and knuckle-dragging art of the SLAMZ.

    Why must this exist?
