Good morning, our fellow Metalocalypse and Dethklok lovers! So here’s the sitch. Vince is getting on the phone with Brendon Small in just a few hours, and he needs YOUR help getting some juicy questions for Brendon. Post a question in the comments section below by 3:30 pm EST today, and Vince will cherry-pick the best ones to pass onto Brendon. And if he chooses your question, well, maybe we’ll send you some banana stickers or something.
In case, for some inexplicable reason, you don’t know who Brendon Small is: the man – nay, genius – is the co-creator of Metalocalypse (as well as the equally awesome Home Movies), voices the characters of Skwisgaar Skwigelf, Pickles the Drummer, and Nathan Explosion, and will be the dude you see front n’ center when you go see Dethklok live. In other words, Brendon is the shit.

The new season of Metalocalypse starts November 8 on Adult Swim. And the episodes are gonna be thirty minutes long now! Niiiiice.

I was once invited to a titmouse gathering, but I ended up not being able to make it. I forgot the occasion, but I do remember being told that a whole fleet of cabs were paid for, so everyone could get completely wasted and not have to drive home. Tell me, did I miss out on having the best night of my life?
Was it a conscious decision to have Nathan’s voice higher pitched on Dethalbum II (almost black metal pitch in some songs), or just a result of the effects of singing every night on tour?
Please describe the transition between Home Movies and Dethklok. The parallel in both seems to be the focus on strong character development and relatively simple plots.

Now that Dethalbum II has sold 45,000 copies and secured a spot in the Billboard top 20, what is the likelihood of there being a Dethalbum III? With all the cheddar you are no doubt making for Adult Swim, could there also be a Dethklok movie?

How much more writing effort has it taken do you think, to write a 30 minute episode instead of a 15? Are we (as viewers) going to be able to see a deeper side of Dethklok in upcoming episodes since there is more time to shed light in a lot of the still unanswered questions of the Metalocalypse world?
And if so, may I highly suggest an episode that focuses on the beginning of Dethklok and how the 7th largest economy in the world came to be :-)

How come Dethklok has yet to tour with any actual death metal bands? Is it because they think your lampooning the genre and just don’t want to be asscociated with you, or that you just haven’t made any offers?

I’ve heard rumors and theories, but please do tell, who are each of the band members based on? Are any other characters in the show based on real people?
What’s your recording process like?
If a priest, a pope and a rabbi were to walk into an insanely awesome band that had Dethklok as a house band, what would their reception/reaction be like?

Some people don’t consider Dethklok a real band because they are cartoons. You are brilliant and write the entire albums and are an incredibly talented guitarist who’s work is amazing, does it bother you that some people might detract from all your hard work because people may view you as “the man behind the curtain”?
When the show was first revealed, there was a picture with the Pickles with more of a skullet hair-do than the current comb over. While each band member seems to be based on a real life person (IE, Nathan resembling Corpsegrinder), Pickles was pointed out to resemble Devin Townsend during his SYL days, why was he changed over, was he too close?
Also, what the hell do we have to do to get a full version of Underwater Friends?

How has Dethklok pushed your musically, and what are the specific challenges to so closely integrating music into a show?

Was there an ending to the show in mind when you started? Will the so-called “Metalocalypse” ever arrive? Because as much as I like the show, I feel like that title and concept drag it down a bit, and those beginning bits with the “mysterious cabal” or whatever are utterly devoid of laughs (though I am all for Mark Hammil getting more voice work). Aren’t there better ways to flesh out the world of Dethklok without so much exposition and explanation?

Woh woh woh….. watch that your saying about mastodon! they kick ass and it makes for a killer tour. a monkey with down syndrome can see that.
All the bands you mentioned are cartoon bands – only one has a TV show too. I’m a big fan, but you have to realize the metal genre is the musical equivalent of cartoons/anime. Brendan was smart, funny and talented enough to put it together and it rocks.
PS> A large part of the success of Dethklok is because Brendon is an excellent musician. His music is just plain better than most metal out there, and if that weren’t true the show would be a gimmick and there wouldn’t be a tour.
How does it feel to know Dethalbum 2 sold on par with Megadeth’s Endgame? Could this lead to a battle…TO THE DETH!?

“Crush My Battle Opponents Balls” had some of the most epic guitar playing i’ve ever heard. Is there any hope for releasing that as a full song?
Have you been trying to get more Dethklok songs to be released for Guitar Hero or Rock Band? Thunderhorse is the reason I still play Guitar Hero 2.
The art style that was used for Home Movies is radically different from Metalocalypse. How did you go about deciding what style to present Metalocalypse with? Also, who or what did you draw inspiration from for the imagery used in Metalocalypse?
First off, whatever happened to the Dethklok signature guitar that was floating around on the internet a year or so ago?
Also, what is going on with Metalocalypse game that was supposed to be shown at E3 this year?
And finally, I read in interview where you talked about the pressure of having to come up with songs for every episode, and you compared it to being a writer for commercial jingles, and falling back on certain keys for songs, etc. Are you still using that technique, or do you find yourself squirelling away riffs/song ideas for the future?
P.S. thanks so much for touring with converge. I damn near had a heart attack when i read that they were part of the adult swim tour. i had to do jumping jack for 10 minutes to calm down and be able to order the tickets.

If Dethklok were to dissolve, what would the individual members end up doing musically? Murderface would obviously be working on Planet Piss, but would Skwisgaar and Toki go off on solo careers as Yngwie-style shredders? Would Nathan Explosion become metal’s most prolific guest vocalist? Would Pickles return to his Snakes ‘N Barrels roots and start another hard rock band? What would happen, musically?
Bonus round: Who would Charles Ofdensen manage? Would he stick with Nathan, Toki, or someone else?

People seem to forget that many episodes of Home Movies included musical numbers. I especially liked “Don’t Put Marbles Up Your Nose”, which sounded quite a lot like DethKlok, and “Mr.Pants”, which sounded suspiciously like a Snakes ‘N’ Barrels track. Is there any chance that fans of Home Movies will ever get a chance to own (whether by CD, or internet download) the music from Home Movies?
