DALLAS COYLE GIVES YOU SOME OF HIS NEW MUSIC FOR FREE

The Hard R with Dallas Coyle

I haven’t had much time to write my blog as much as I would like. To apologize I wanted to give you guys a free download of a small amount of music I’ve done since I’ve left God Forbid. This music is under my moniker Graphic Novel or [GN]. I scored a film a couple of months back and this is a sample of that ’style’ of music I like to create. [GN] definitely is not metal by any stretch but it is some interesting stuff. I hope you kids here can appreciate something besides metal music.

Here’s the tracklisting for the songs cause I’m not sure they will go into your music player in the right order.

1. The Vultures Titles
2. Voices – Score
3. Settle The Score (Inst)
4. Fate-ality
5. Warren’s Fate
6. The Baron’s Theme
7. Push, Shove
8. Death Dance
9. Whistle Blower

The music ranges from horror score to electronica to weird remixes. It will only be up for three days so get it while it lasts you crazy fuckers.

DOWNLOAD HERE.

  1. It’s free, so… Why not?

  2. Spanky says:

  3. JRTME says:

    Dallas,

They didn’t go in order. Buy I’m putting them in order to take a listen.

  4. groverXIII says:

Hmmm… I’ll check this out when I’m on my home PC.

And I always retag my shit so it’s in the right order. :D

  5. CJ says:

Dallas… It’s pretty good stuff, but would it happen to have any cover art? I have this weird thing where all my music on my iTunes has to be all nice and orderly and have the cover art. Definitely thanks for the download though.

  6. mburden1216 says:

So fucking gay. I can’t believe someone would go from being in God Forbid to this. Notice how he didn’t say what shitty ass movie he “scored”. And the remix of bat the angels is hilarious!

    • Dallas says:

The movie is called ELO shitbird.

      • C says:

        Dallas-

If you reply to every ass-hat who lives in his mom’s basement, you’re going to go fucking crazy. Let the haters hate. Keep on making good music… music that caters to your own feeling of pride above all else.

      • Nate says:

        You’re still a douchebag.

        “zomg look what i did”
“zomg look how many records I sold”

Go do something of consequence if you really want to brag about how cool you are.

And PLEASE respond angrily so I can affirm that you are indeed, an asshat, and that indeed, I will never, ever show you any support, and that no, you will not EVER earn the right to laugh at me and make me go back on conclusion #2.

        • Fufkin says:

Christ, that’s harsh – you’d think he’d hit you round the head with a sausage the way you’re carrying on Nate. Get some perspective man.

          • Nate says:

It’s harsh, but on his last blog he tried to tell me that he was OBVIOUSLY a good musician because he sold X amount of records. He’s a sub-par guitar player, walking around like he’s god, because his older brother let him into his band that had a marginal financial success. Now that he’s left said band, he has to act like a badass because he doesn’t want people to know he was the shittier guitar player, and he has to give off this image that he was integral to that band’s songwriting process, and that he does indeed have skill.

I’d have no beef with this asshole if he hadn’t bragged about selling fucking records, that shit is the thing that pisses me off most. I mean, sure i’d think he’s an asshole if he just started telling internet people he was better than them, I mean, who the fuck doesn’t tell people they suck in a random environment even though you know nothing about them? If Dallas measures how good he is in financial sales, which he’s made blatantly obvious with his responses on his last blog, and how he treats just everyday people, then he’s a fucking retard for not going with what’s trendy. And he’ll probably post something like “i don’t follow the trends, i’m not like that” or some bullshit, but he’s used the record sale arguments to make himself look good.

Whatever, Dallas, you can’t compose worth ass, you can’t play guitar other than holding down a rhythm, and you’re a total douchebag. YOU should have been pegged with a cup o’ beer, not your brother; and it should be happening to you every time you set foot outside of the house.

          • Dallas says:

This response is for Nate, not Fufkin.

Nate, you wouldn’t say any of that shit to my face you fucking punk. And, I’m older than Doc. You have no idea how much I contributed to the song writing of God Forbid. People like you are the worst on the internet. You act like you know what you’re talking about when you’re the most clueless out there.

For one, you say that shit to my face, I will choke the shit out of you and punch you in the fucking face. I’m not like my brother. I’m a hot head. And I don’t give a shit about being seen as immature.

I’ve been arrested before and both times for assault. So say it to my face. It’s not a threat either. Most of you will ask why I respond like this: Cause I’m sick of punk ass motherfuckers like Nate with no pot to piss in talking shit about people they don’t know.

And I said in my other blog, what have you done? Show me. Let’s see you get judged.

          • Nate says:

Lol, what have i done? Nothing yet, I’m 17. The point isn’t what I’ve done, nice red herring though. The point is that your’e claiming to be amazing when you’re not.

As for the “i wouldn’t say shit to your face in real life.” You don’t know me, pal. I don’t censor myself EVER. Because i KNOW if you fucking laid a finger on me, you’d be gone for a long ass time. Fuck, maybe I’ll come find you and have ya choke me, when you’re in jail we won’t get anymore of your shitty records. You’re so cool intimidating people over the internet.

          • Dallas says:

            Nate,
Thanks for proving my point. You’re 17 years old. You don’t know shit. Live a little before you open your mouth.

          • Dallas says:

            Nate,
I claim to be amazing? I think not. Since you haven’t been reading my blog since the beginning you have no idea how humble I am and how many times I’ve pointed out the faults of my talent.

Since you’re only 17 I’ll give you some advice. You will not get anywhere in life unless you know what you’re good at and what you’re poor at. it’s a fact of life. Don’t throw a hissy fit about my blogs just because I know those things about myself. But again, you’re only 17 so I’ll give you the benefit of the doubt.

You could be the next Einstein but until you can be confident enough to tell people how bad ass you are at the things you excel you’ll never amount to anything. I have no idea what skills and talents you have but never be afraid to be outspoken about it. If you don’t tell somebody about your strengths, who will?

          • This argument is like two sides of the stupid coin. Can’t tell the head from the tail either.

          • Nate says:

I love how you used the excuse that I”m 17, so OBVIOUSLY i don’t know anything. And I DO know how awesome I am at what i do, thanks very much. But just because I think i’m awesome, doesn’t mean that i AM awesome. I’m confident and cocky as hell, and I get respect for that wherever I go. But I don’t spout it all over the place.

The thing is, on your last blog, a guy said that God Forbid, or whatever other thing you did he was bitching about, was shit. It basically boiled down to you saying that you sold “X” amount of records, so that you MUST be good. THAT is untrue. Record sells don’t prove SHIT. No matter how much you’ve humbled yourself, it pales in comparison to the douchebaggery of usch a comment.

Honestly, you’re pretty funny in a lot of the stuff you say, and you get a lot of unncessarily stupid shit, but that was a cop-out rebuttle. Talking shit about your position in GF was bogus, I’ll admit that, it goes in that category of unnecessary shit.

            I’m done arguing with you.

          • Dallas says:

            Nate,
I hear where you’re coming from but record sales is a fact of life in the music business. When you’re a band who needs a big tour they look at buzz and sound scans. Record sales are very important.

Just because your favorite band may not sell that many records doesn’t mean that the records God Forbid sold are meaningless. It makes the point that God Forbid had an impact. Record sales show that people bought your music and people know who you are.

You can’t avoid it. I know people are pissed FFDP sold 44K the first week but they charted on the billboard charts and it gets them press. Selling records is something you should be proud of. Not something you should shy away from.

I guess that’s the difference in the way we see things. I think record sales matter. You don’t.

          • AEnema175 says:

You’re both fucking childish for arguing like this. Nate, shut the fuck up. I am the same age as you, grow up, you are acting like you are ten. That’s all I have to say to you because most of what you said escapes my mind due to the absolutely mind numbingly stupid logic you used. And Dallas, what the hell, I thought you were better than stooping to some punks level. He is what on the internet we call a troll, metalsucks is full of them. He just wants to piss you off, and he did. Fuck him, ignore him. There will always be people who hate what you do, I know this and I’m 17, I ignore it. I respect you, because you did what I dream of doing. You sold thousands of records. But as Nate said, record sales don’t mean shit. No one cares. If your music is good people will listen, if it isnt it will be on the pop charts. now stop fighting on the internet because it is completely pointless, and get back to making music that people may or may not love.

          • Nate says:

My logic is fucked but you concede my point?

WOW. You are truly a genius.

          • AEnema175 says:

I never said I was, cause I am not an arrogant prick who has never left his bedroom in his parents house. and by the way, I conceded to your point because somehow in that incoherent babble you managed to have somewhat of a decent argument. But again there are two sides. Yes God Forbid have sold a lot of records, which means people like their music. Yes they are becoming well known in the metal scene. But that does not necessarily mean they are good musicians. Look at the Beatles. They sold more records than any band in the world, yet by themselves they are just average musicians at best. So I admit, you had one good argument. And Dallas had his side, which also had a decent argument or two. Now get over yourself and go listen to what you actually like instead of bitching about something you don’t.

          • Nate says:

It’s funny, because in my entire arguments, I never claimed to be anything. I claimed that I think i’m awesome, but that doesn’t mean that I truly am, which I stated. I never flaunted myself at all.

And also, what incoherent babble do you speak of?
I’m pretty concise in all that I have to say.

And besides, what other arguments did I have? My whole beef is that Dallas HAD CLAIMED that record sales made him a good guitarist on his last blog, and to this, I decided he was a douchebag. What other argument is in there? WHen I said it was funny that Dallas dismissed me because I was underage?

Please, tell me what is not clear in MY ONE ARGUMENT.

Dumbass, next time you want to tell me I’m babbling, cite some sentences that are babble.

    • C says:

I take exception to the claim that the Beatles were “average musicians at best.” Despite a few fits of acid-induced nonsense, they were among the best of the century. If you doubt their ability to compose, just look at their music transcribed. The complex and, at the time, highly original harmonies influenced a generation of musicians. For example: Beatles ==> Sabbath, Sabbath ==> Metallica/Slayer/Megadeth/Anthrax/Iron Maiden/Judas Priest/Everyone else ==> almost all modern metal. So… yeah, you’re wrong about that.

  7. Sammy says:

It’s not my kind of music, but that doesn’t make it bad. Nothing wrong with experimenting outside your “norm”.

  8. Me says:

cool. warren’s fate has a nice intro. fyi, dallas backwards is sallad.

  9. BrutalJay says:

It’s pretty interesting. I don’t hate it. Would love some cover art, though. Really digging “I Am The Devil”.

  10. Dallas says:

There’s no cover art at all. The project is really just stuff I do in my spare time.

  11. Blake says:

Thanks for the tunes, Dallas! I’ll check ‘em out when I get home.

  12. Nate says:

    You’re still a douchebag.

  13. King Cheezit says:

Dallas, how did you land the movie score gig?

    • Dallas says:

Just did some hustling. Sent out a lot of tracks to different filmmakers. Search sites like bloodydisgusting.com, aintitcool.com, dreadcentral.com

They have a lot of underground filmmakers with things in development. Also, invest in a IMDB Pro account.

      • R. Joseph Smith says:

I got to give it to you, I fucking like it. I am a big fan of Trip-Hop and this really appeals to me in that regard. Atmospheric and heady. I burnt a blunt while I gave it a go. And yeah, I have to respect it as art. Good stuff, thanks for the free jams. Respect.

      • Nate says:

Oh, I heardt you sucked dick until your face looked like you ate a pound of sour gummies. Lying to make yourself seem cool, eh Dallas?

  14. FratBro69 says:

    This isn’t even worth free.

  15. Justin Sane says:

someone said warren’s fate, so i gave it a listen first. the swelling “strings” aren’t even on time man, what the fuck? and i like god forbid, so this isn’t some insta-hate kinda shit, but come on, i know you understand that whether that was intentional or not, it sounds like a 10 yr old made it cause those strings come in at all the wrong times.

    • festernaecus says:

you’re just not enough of an Artist (capital A) to understand it. Dallas BLED those strings, dude. How much premium gash have you slayed anyway, you hack? Not as much as Dallas! Therefore, your opinion is worthless.

      • Dallas says:

Couldn’t have said it better myself ! festernaecus, you’re my best cheerleader. You are glorious. I will pass off some glorious 11 on the richter scale pussy to you when I am tired of banging 11’s and moving up to 12’s.

festernaecus, you’re a God amongst internet posters. respect.

        • timmah says:

That’s a really interesting and “uneasy” feeling effect you create with those strings in there Dallas. I like it.

I kinda skimmed some of the other stuff (busy at the moment) but I’ll give a more thorough listen later. I like the dark, pummeling industrial groove in “death dance” as well.

          Keep it up man

        • festernaecus says:

          haha!! mutliple sarcasm!

        • Justin Sane says:

i like how you didn’t manage to mention why it sounded like shit…

          • Dallas says:

I like how you didn’t manage to stop sucking cock while listening. Facials don’t mix with the strings. That’s why they sound off.

Timmah hit it on the head. It’s supposed to be uneasy… It starts directly on time then ‘lags’ behind the beat but that’s MUSICIAN talk there. Just Insane. I got it. Your name I mean.

          • Fuck you’re a loser Dallas. You are absolutely no different than anyone of us losers.

        • Dallas says:

          \m/Eluveitie\m/,
Don’t get angry cause I can play your game as well as you. Please. Let’s be honest here. If you see yourself as a loser than that’s what you are.

I won’t read this shit and not defend myself. This a comment section for that very purpose. Since I’ve been doing the blog, I’ve always responded to comments on here so don’t act like this is some new revelation.

          • Dallas says:

            \m/Eluveitie\m/,
I voted for Ziltoid by the way!

          • Why would I comment if I didn’t expect you to respond?

          • Matt says:

            Dallas-

I just don’t get it. Why are you addressing nonsensical criticism? From, mostly, CHILDREN. I understand the need to defend oneself, but replying simply gives them a rush from arguing from someone of a level of popularity and recognition above themselves. Every time you respond, you validate them. How can you construe your responses as anything other than fueling the fire of immaturity, and, ultimately, wasting your own time? Come ON, man. Go write some more kickass music and get off the comment blog.

            -Matt

          • I wonder if when Dallas grows up he’ll read his comments and be embarrassed.

          • Dallas says:

            Matt,
            Cause it’s FUN!

          • Damn right Dallas, I agree finally!

      • Gerard Butler says:

festernaecus, don’t listen to Dallas, he spits.

        His mom told me.

  16. Jugglemonkey says:

Maybe it’s because I’ve been listening to Skinny Puppy non stop for months, but it strikes me that this stuff is missing something. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a damn sight better than I could do, but I can’t help feeling that something could be done better. What are you going for with this music? Out of interest, how long have you been playing around with this style? Definitely keep it up though, it’s pretty cool.

  17. BEHEMOHAWK says:

    Noice!

    I like

  18. rachel says:

Always interesting to see what a metalhead will compose that isnt related to the band. Sounds like Opeth gone Nine Inch Nails. Nice work!

    • rachel says:

*the band that they were in orginally

      • Nate says:

Nothing Dallas will EVER do can be even compared in the slightest form to Opeth.

        Mikael Akerfeldt=Smart, funny, kind, genius

Dallas Coyle=Self-agrandizing, douchebag, fucktard, barely-par musician.

        • cink says:

Fanboy. Why don’t you go hang out at the official Opeth forums instead?

          • Fufkin says:

The official Opeth forum was closed after Mikael Akerfeldt had read one too many idiotic posts. Hence…

          • Nate says:

Lol, I’m not that much of an opeth fan, I just hate Dallas that fucking much. o.O Opeth aren’t even in my top 10 favorite bands lol, i just know Akerfeldt is an amazing composer, something Dallas, quite frankly, isn’t.

        • rachel says:

well, I have my personal thoughts on any music artist: Dallas has sold more albums with his time in God Forbid than I have in my whole lifetime (and my count, currently, is a big zero). Therefore, he is someone who deserves respect for the fact that he can actually maker money off of playing music. Many bands would kill to be given the opportunity to be a supporting act for Lamb of God or play on Rockstar Mayhem.

  19. Tyler says:

It’s interesting. Good try I guess. I just want to hear your next metal project.

  20. Chris says:

    Hey-

This is a good a forum as any for this.

I’ve been writing some shit and recording it with Audacity and the SHITTIEST (free) drum machine ever made. I just want some feedback from anyone who is willing as per songwriting suggestions, ideas.

One thing, though. I KNOW IT SOUNDS LIKE IT’S COMING OUT OF A PAPER BAG. That’s comes from my insistence on multi-tracking guitars until there is no hope left of avoiding clipping. Well, that, and my complete ineptitude at mixing tracks.

Anyway, if you want to hate on it, hate on it. That would be mostly for your own pleasure; I’ll get nothing productive from it. Again, this isn’t a band; this is just me and a Line6 TonePort and my laptop. You were warned.

    http://www.purevolume.com/ChristopherHergott

    • Fufkin says:

Well I respect you for throwing that into what seems to be a lions den, or basement. It can be frustrating grappling at home with recording but it only gets better with time.

Sounds like you’ve got some good ideas there that you could expand into songs. It sounds to me like the ideas are at too much of an early stage to garner any useful feedback but I could be wrong.

I know how your feel about getting the right sound. It really is worth taking the time to get your distortion sounding good – that’s a very harsh sound you have there and it would be a shame if people only remember that from your music. My rule of thumb – you need less gain than your think you need.

This is probably of no use to you but good luck in the future Chris.

      • Chris says:

        Fufkin-

I’m going to try and respond topic-by-topic.

First, yeah, they’re just riffs at this point. I think my main issue as a songwriter is a lack of flow. You know, a SONG rather than sequential riffs. I feel like a whole band with a range of inputs help this transition. I’ve been there in the past and have always found it easier to make smoother, more fluid music.

As far as the harsh distortion – that surprised me a bit, because the distortion (albeit DI from Line6) was only on half-blast for most of the tracks. For example, I thought that the fast verses in Mood Swings had a decent tone. However, where it all falls apart (and that to which I think you are alluding) is in some of the choruses, where four or five guitars are layered. It does indeed sound like garbage, but I’m not certain that’s because of tone. I think that has more to do with clipping from cheap mp3 compression and the lack of mixing and mastering abilities. What results is a mess that sounds very sloppy, but each individual track is measurably more clear. So, in all, I would say I need to stop being lazy (or overeager, depending on how you want to look at it) to just throw the track out there before spending extra time mixing. I could be wrong.

In any case, thanks for the constructive feedback.

        -Chris

        • Dallas says:

          Chris,
Are you tracking any bass on these tracks? If not, that may help to fill out the guitars. I didn’t think the guitars were that grating. I did like some of the riffs. Do yourself a favor and get EZ Drummer with Drumkit From Hell. It’s a cool drum program and easy to use.

          • Chris says:

            Dallas,

Thanks a lot. I’ll check into those programs.

            -Chris

          • AEnema175 says:

definitely get DKFH. i use that thing and its amazing, im a drummer by trade too. it sounds perfect and it also, is a valuable learning tool for me. it helps me see what im playing since i learn by ear.

    • David Hulsey says:

You use the same setup as me to greater results. What is that “free” drum program you use? I’m using keyboard drums and it sounds like SHIT. Way more than yours, if you can believe that.

  21. West Virginia says:

i like the name graphic novel

so what film have you scored dallas? this sounds interesting.

  22. Shinaain says:

“I hope you kids here can appreciate something besides metal music.”

Well, you know me: I’m all over this. Thanks, Dallas! I don’t expect people to work for free, so I appreciate this download for the gift it is.

  23. Buttor says:

Thanks Dallas, I’m downloading right now and very curious to give it a listen.

  24. Sam Ellis - Thompson says:

Thanks for the free music Dallas!!

Even if I don’t like it once I’ve heard it, theres no point knocking it, cos its just some music that somebody has spent time over and then decided to share, and thats cool whatever it sounds like!

Although endless free metal albums are always appreciated ;)

  25. James says:

At first, I wasn’t sure which is worse, this music or God Forbid.
    Definitely this.

Oh well. I’m going to go get a cup of beer and drink it, since its not on my face.

  26. R. Joseph Smith says:

Anybody elses computer crash upon downloading this shit?

  27. David Hulsey says:

Coming from someone who actually sits and listens to film scores on a rather frequent basis, I gotta say this shit needs a lot of tweaking. But you are on track :) It sounds like it was made by an actual musician and not someone dicking around on a Casio.

  28. reznik says:

sounds abit like godflesh & the stuff ulver are doing now

  29. Rodney says:

    Dallas…

I like where you are going with this…

drop me a line if you need some art to go along with the tunes…

been a while since we last spoke…I hope all is well..

  30. nick says:

I like it. keep it up man. You might have something going for you with this.

  31. Kevin Salinas says:

thanx for the tunes, these are the same ones you got up on http://coylemedia.ning.com/ right?
    good stuff.

    • Dallas says:

      Kev,
Only some of it is up there. There’s also different versions of some songs as well. I finished the coverage for that one band so let’s talk about Sagacious Past.

      • Kevin Salinas says:

rock on, ill send over an email soon. hope you had a chance to listen to the cd.

i also had a question for you for your blog,

In this day and age in metal, with a large emphasis on dual guitars and harmonies, do you think a metal band can make it with just one guitar player?

  32. Alex P. says:

Kudos to you for making some of the first electronic music I’ve enjoyed in a while. Overall, very nice, barring the first song (which alienates me somewhat with the trance-reminiscent sound) and the last song (which feels a little close to nu-metal, despite having delightful lyrics). I’m particularly digging Push, Shove, Death Dance (nice to hear metal-influenced electro) and Whistle Blower. I’m reminded of some of the Fucking Champs’ early work, like Now is the Winter of our Discotheque, not because of stylistic similarity but because it expands on the notion of electronic music.

It being free makes it all that much better. Thanks for putting this out there.
