PHIL LABONTE & BRIAN FAIR, FOREVER IN EACH OTHERS’ HANDS

Monday, October 12th, 2009 at 12:30pm by Vince Neilstein

The big beef on the Webernets this weekend concerned a Twitter fight between Shadows Fall frontman Brian Fair and All That Remains frontman Phil Labonte over the latter’s girlfriend. Yup, a Twitter fight. In the end it can most likely be chalked up to a bunch of drunks quibbling, but it sure is funny! Have a look at the Twitter war play by play over at Metal Injection.

Turns out All That Remains have a new video too, for the track “Forever in Your Hands.” I’ve been over All That Remains since the first time I saw them live and realized Labonte couldn’t touch those high notes he hits on record with the assistance of ProTools. Not that I was ever really into the band in the first place. But, ya know, some of you may dig this band… so here’s the video, which features cameos by God Forbid’s Byron Davis, Killswitch’s Adam D. and others.

All that remains last album fucking sucked. Shadows Falls last album was good. Either way, they have hits and misses. But, Phil Labonte is a total douche if you follow him on myspace, so go brian!

  2. msv81 says:

Stupid high school type drama, and here I was silly enough to think people ever actually grow up.

  3. politude says:

What the FUCK was that? I mean seriously any and all of the growl vocals are replaced by very mr.clean swiffered vocals. What gives, this is seriously offensive to the ears now.

And it sucks cause I’m alright with ATR.

    • Anthony says:

I thought I was the only one and was just going crazy, but what the fuck happened to the growled vocals?

I’m usually one to try and avoid throwing around “sell out” when a band does something that may seem like they’re simply trying to gain a wider audience, but what the fuck?

    • Anthony says:

should say “to try to avoid” not “try and avoid”

    • Driven9 says:

Seriously, to change up a song (one that was already garbage mind you) and remove whatever was left of the energy in an ATR song, just so it’ll make radio play is fucking retarded. Another disappointing move from a band I used to really enjoy. Oh yeah… and Killswitch Engage did this same thing with My Curse from their previous album, fuck that’s annoying.

    • Nate says:

LOL. ATR got excited because Six was almost all clean, and it did so well with GH2 and what not. Watch, their next album will be totally mainstream rock and not even the slightest bit metal.

I had so much respect for this band, then I heard them butcher a nevermore song. Then I heard two weeks. Then I found out Phil LaBonte is a hardcore right-wing media-snorting douchebag. I suppose that last bit would explain why he’s so ready to become mainstream.

      • Anthony says:

I have no problem with music they already made in it’s original form becoming popular and released as a single and to radio (like “two weeks”, regardless of your opinion on the song), but taking a song and changing it to become more radio friendly than it already is – quite the sell out move. I thought Slipknot was bad with removing the intro growl/scream in “Psychosocial” for the video, or the “terry date mix” of Wait and bleed which didn’t have as much screaming on the verses

        • Nate says:

Dude, two weeks was SPECIFICALLY written to be a radio-smash. Notice the lack of all screams in any form, when in the past, every ATR song has had a pleasant mix of vocal styles?

You can’t say that ATR wasn’t planning this sell-out after their GH2 success, I mean, they’ve even admitted to doing this, they just forgot to give it the nomenclature of “selling out.”

  4. did you just piss on my xbox? says:

    booooo

i could even make it 30 sec through that video, way to sell out atr

  5. Stabitha says:

If I were someone’s girlfriend, regardless of what someone may or may not have said to me that was lewd and/or crude, if my man TWEETED ABOUT IT like my honor was at stake he would be dumped with a quickness. Yes, we have metal dudes acting like gossipy girls here, but that shouldn’t be news to anyone who hangs out with metal dudes. If someone had tried to manhandle Phil’s missus, then I’d get it. But this is so much unnecessary crap about nothing.

  6. Ryan says:

all that remains. never heard of them until now but that song in that video is fucking terrible. and the twitter fight is childish as shit. if the two of them weren’t complete pussies they would talk face to face instead of over the internet

    • stu1 says:

You’ve never heard of ATR?? Really? Also, it’s hard to discuss things “face to face” when your in different parts of the country on tour.

  7. orbital says:

Hahahahaha!! The only thing worse than this so called “twitter fight” are websites reporting it like it’s news. Nobody cares.

  8. ATR has gotten progressively softer with every release since This Darkened Heart. they’re a joke now.

  9. Mark Gavin says:

Two bands that are mediocre at best. Who cares?

  10. Motoghost says:

I thought this was really stupid, the girl was probably equally into Brian considering he’s not a meathead ego man like Phil. I’ve met Phil a couple times and excluding the first time, he was a complete jerk. I thought it was pathetic when they performed songs that had high notes, and he just growled over it. Anyways when it comes down to it, Shadows Fall kills ATR

  11. Zoker says:

I love these feuds! Really! Go ahead MS!!! And I like both the bands too!!! I’m a douche!!!

  12. cink says:

Shadows Fall new album > ATR’s new one. I still think the 2 are one of the best metalcore bands out there.

  13. jason says:

“Save the drama for your mama”????
Oh Brian, you are such a card.

  14. timmah says:

ATR sucks now…they’re good musicians (phil sucks) but this radio friendly crap is lame

  15. William Grimmkvlt says:

A Twitter fight? How high school emo girl of them. At least The Acacia Strain and Emmure singers took swings at each other, though the Emmure singer tried to use brass knuckles like a coward.

  16. Scott says:

This is the way I have learned to look at things like this: Having a hot gf is like having an awesome motorcycle. A lot of people are going to look at it and some are going to try to ride it. It’s something you have to get used to when you have a cute girlfriend.

  17. Justin Sane says:

i thought they were an ok band, saw em live and they blew it, and phil sounds like shit. it also didn’t help that gojira wiped the floor with every other band that night, much less almost any band i’ve seen since, and i’m not even a big fan of them, they were just that fucking tight.

  18. Edgar says:

Shadows fall and All that remains are playing a show together in Kansas City on the 14. Should be a nice time for them two. Complete bull shit that Shadows Fall play before ATR.

  19. Edgar says:

    make that the 24th

  20. The Ghost of D. Boon says:

Man I’m inclined to side with Brian here, if only because the meathead singer from Five Finger Douche Punch was the one that ratted him out.

Totally agree with what Metal Injection said, though. Pure stupidity from all parties for letting the thing play out online like that.

  21. Che Guitarra says:

I fucking HATE radio edits! I understand censoring the cursing, sure, but why do they have to fuck with vocals? I especially hate it when they condense songs into a neat, radio friendly time frame!

  22. Garske says:

Phil….or whoever is responsible for this ‘radio version’ of this song…you’ve disappointed me.

    =(

Its like when KSE edited My Curse to be radio friendly…its ass, it sucks, its stupid. Jesus, I’m with Mr. Fair on this one.
