GOD FORBID’S COVER OF MUSE’S “STOCKHOLM SYNDROME” FINALLY AVAILABLE!

Wednesday, October 14th, 2009 at 12:00pm by Axl Rosenberg

At some point during the recording of Earthsblood, God Forbid announced that they had covered Muse’s “Stockholm Syndrome.” Since then, we’ve actually gotten a stupid amount of e-mails from people asking us when it was going to be released. And we really didn’t know. (I know we’re tight with some of the dudes from God Forbid, but it’s important to remember that we’re not actually in God Forbid, even if we sometimes air guitar to “The End of the World” and fantasize that we are.)

Well, the song is finally available as a single on iTunes. An it’s good! Muse are already one of the most metal non-metal bands out there, and GF completely succeed in turning the track into something metal as fuck. The guitars rip and Byron Davis screams in jjjuuuussssttt the right amounts. If you’re a God Forbid fan, it’s totally worth the buck it’ll cost you. And as a bonus, remember that it might be the last official God Forbid recording to feature Dallas Coyle (who handles most of the vocals, in addition to his usual guitar duties) ever.

For obvious reasons I can’t/don’t want to post the cover here, but below you can check out the video for Muse’s original, in case you’re unfamiliar with it.

Sorry. The vocals ruined the cover. Alright I wouldnt say ruined, but they surely didnt fit with the rest of it. And even you were on the fence about it,”…Byron Davis screams in jjjuuuussssttt the right amounts.”, Yah well, It was jjjuuuussssttt short of a success. Instrumentals? Fucking incredible. If you put those instrumentals behind Matt Bellamys vox and you’ve got an untouchable. But………they didnt and its not as good as the original, and it certainly wasnt great, but then again covers rarely are.

A terrible band covering an even worse band.

FYI, the video isn’t supposed to be this boring. There’s a version out there with regular images.

nice showcase of dallas’s vocals. hopefully along with the film scoring he does some epic electronic/rock shit with big harmonized vocals.

I hate the muse! there like radiohead for metalheads

  7. Moose_knuckle says:

I wouldnt mind hearing the song before i pay for it, muse and god forbid are pretty cool so hopefully this is suitably good.

  8. B-dizzle says:

    Muse is so fucking good

  9. Muse > God Forbid says:

I didn’t know it was possible for a professional band to cover a song, and in the process, bring NOTHING new to the table. This is just a less impressive version of the original song. In fact, they’ve simplified the song considerably. Several interesting drum fills have been replaced with hammering on the splash symbol. Although the harsh vocals don’t detract from the entire piece, they’re very cheesy, and certainly don’t add anything.

Honestly, the track by Muse is A LOT heavier than this.

      Agreed.

I HATE the production. There’s no air, no discernible musicianship by any of the individual members, just a big mush of sound. Whoever mixes God Forbid is god awful.

And don’t get me started on that totally gratuitous and retarded meedley-meedley flourish after the first chorus.

Muse is amazing. If this is the best God Forbid can do, they should quit now.

I like Metalsucks. I like Axl and Vinnie. But not posting the cover here for “obvious reasons” smacks of an odd hypocrisy.

Well, shit. I can’t find this song anywhere. You think it would be at least posted on their MySpace. I don’t wanna spend money, I don’t really like Muse, and I’m sure God Forbid aren’t bad, but I’m not wasting money. Can’t I get a sample?
