THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH METAL AND EVERYTHING TO DO WITH HALLOWEEN, HORROR, AND BEING AWESOME
Wednesday, October 14th, 2009 at 4:30pm by Axl RosenbergPlease allow me to digress from our regular subject matter to discuss another one of my great loves – namely, horror movies.
I saw Hatchet at the Tribeca Film Festival a few years ago. I was more than a little surprised to see Dee Snider sitting in the audience. As it turns out, Adam Green, the writer/director of Hatchet, is a huge Twisted Sister fan. He gave a whole speech before the screening, recounting a story of meeting Dee at a signing when he was a kid, and telling Dee how his music changed his life and inspired him to follow his dreams. Years later, when he finally got to make his first movie, he reached out to Dee and invited him to the screening – and Dee showed up! How cool is that? And BONUS: Hatchet is an awesome movie. It’s a funny as fuck, gory as hell homage to the golden age of slasher flicks – namely, the 80s. Awesome movie.
Now Adam Green has directed the below “infomercial” with his friend, Paul Solet, who directed Grace – which is easily one of the most unsettling films I’ve seen in years. It’s increasingly rare to see original horror these days, let alone original horror that is genuinely disturbing – but Grace is that gem of a movie. No wonder it got a very limited theatrical run and is now on DVD. Maybe if it had been Saw XXI or whatever, the suits would have given a fuck.
ANYWAY, I love these dudes’ work, and I love this video. And knowing that many of you share my love of all things gore, I thought it was worth sharing. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do.

Word. And yes i thought Strangeland was the shit.
Watch The Collector, its what SAW is TRYING to be.
World Painted Blood 09
Ya know axl….I watched Grace and it’s defintly the most unsettling…what the fuck were those dudes thinking.
Hatchet is goddamn awesome.
Anyone have some suggestions on similar movies that mix the horror and comedy in a great way? I am always looking for some new stuff to check out.
I thought Jack Brooks: Monster Slayer was pretty good, and Fido was enjoyable (though more comedy than horror).
Zombieland my man, the scenes with Bill Murray are genius. It also opens to “For Whom The Bell Tolls”. Its awesome.
Also i think Drag me to hell was *Supposed to be serious, but it was comedic.
*See Fail.
Seeing Zombieland tomorrow, and watched Drag Me to Hell last night. Thought it was good, but definitely not on the level of the Evil Dead movies.
Zombieland is fucking AMAZING.
Drag Me to Hell was made by Sam Raimi, definitely not supposed to be serious.
Wrong Turn 2!!! Amazing opening sequence AND it has Henry Rollins in it!
Cannibal: The Musical
try Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon. fucking excellent.
+1 for Behind the Mask, it’s one of my favorites. also check out Black Sheep, Dead Alive, Slither, and off course Shaun of the Dead for Comedy/Horror
For real horror, check out [Rec]. It was just released on DVD in the US over the summer and it’s great (fuck Quarantine – the shitty American remake)
+1 for [REC]. I’ve been telling people to see that and they’re all “Nah, Quarantine is in English”
and I’m overcome with blind rage.
[REC] is FAR superior to Quarantine. Especially the final scene. As far as horror comedy goes, check out Undead-funny and creative Australian zombie horror. Also, Martyrs- a light hearted movie about friendship, love, and horrific torture :)
teeth…watch that shit
Now that shit is unsettling lol.
Laid to Rest isn’t too bad. The original Last House on the Left is good IMO. Fido is actually kinda comical and good. Behind the Mask is pretty good. Severance is a decent “slasher.”
[Rec] any good? Like how does it compare to Quarantine?
dude, DEAD SNOW is the most rad comedy horror since BRAINDEAD aka DEAD ALIVE. See it or DIE!
“layaway available for people in Lynn.” HAHAHA
WIN!
Speakin of ol’ Henry Rollins i cant believe i forgot this…The Mutherfuckin FEAST trilogy.
The Be-all, End-all.
Are 2 and 3 worth seeing? Loved the first one, but had heard terrible things about the sequels, so I never got around to watching them.
They are what they are man, schtick horror movies. 2 in my opinion was good, but three left me lacking. Word is they’re already working on a 4th.
wanna see a str8 up fucked up horror movie…CREEP it’s a british film…one of my favs
and check out high tension
those two movies rule..as does Frontieres. Dont watch the shitty overdubbed versions though..get the french versions
Anybody know where in Massachusetts this guy is from? I swear I’ve seen him at my local (Kingston) mall.
Also, lol.
Hatchet is a freakin funny and classy movie… you gotta love it!!
Fucking fuck fuckitty fuck !
Have you ever been to the greater Boston area?
HAHAHAHA! I love it!
It gives you time to:
-Go to Dunkin’ Donuts
-Rob a pharmacy
-Shoot some O.C.’s
HAHAHA! Any comedic reference to oxycontin is hilarious!
Thanks for this post, Axl. Hatchet rules, ive seen it close to 17 times haha. and btw, horror movies are completely metal. havent you ever listened to Ghoul???
grace was so lame. was expecting more.

Another Zombie movie? Oh great, the new trend that is coming around…..
“You don’t want it rollin’ around, fallin’ down the steps lightin’ your fackin’ kids on fire” HAHA!! YES!!!
^^^^ fucking hilarious
I don’t know what’s funnier in this vid, the dialogue or the dude’s thick New England accent.
Either way, favourited.
I found some heavy fucking metal. This is so badass. http://www.jango.com/music/Razed+Ritual
