Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 at 4:00pm by Vince Neilstein
The CMJ Music Marathon — aka the slightly tamer, lamer, older brother of SXSW who moved to NYC to pursue his dreams but fell slightly flat — is now upon us. Here’s my wrap of metal-worthy events happening this week, of which there are fewer than last year. Feel free to add others in the comments.
- Thur. Oct 22: Chuck Mosley @ Fat Baby
- Thur. Oct 22: Tee Pee Records Day Party (12pm-6pm) @ Cake Shop: Priestess, Nebula, Naam, Barnburner, Kreisor, and Hull. Free!
- Fri. Oct 23: MetalInsider.net Slayer World Painted Blood listening party @ Webster Hall. 3-6pm. RSVP here.
- Fri, Oct 23: Tee Pee Records Showcase @ Union Pool, featuring Priestess, Nebula, Naam, Hopewell, Quest For Fire, Kreisor, Imaad Wasif with Two Part Beast, and Weird Owl.
- Fri, Oct 23: Relapse Records / Brooklyn Vegan Showcase @ Fontana’s, featuring Revocation, Misery Index, Salome, Howl, Black Anvil, Complete Failure and Gloominous Doom.

I just listened to the new Priestess album a little bit ago… good stuff. Just seeing them and Revocation would make this worthwhile, methinks.
Fuck yeah Nebula! One of my favorites.
complete failure is sweet
Hey this year was the first year i went to sxsw in austin and i got to say that Metal has the chance to reign supreme at that festival. It is a bunch of idependent labels showcasing their bands. With almost 90% of bands being on independent labels Heavy metal ought to be licking their chops. With so many babes walking around austin, i believe yall oughta talk to a bunch of record labels and talk about doing some showcases next year in austin. I don’t have the voice to speak to the labels, but with yalls site growing in popularity and knowing a bunch of bands yall oughta talk to the bands or the labels because sxsw has a great chance to grow with metal and the US does not have a good metal mecca and sxsw has the chance to do that. Thanks if your listening
Priestess, Nebula, Revocation, Fucking Salome! Shit I might have to go now.
Pig Destroyer – 8pm Saturday at the Rocks Off Concert Cruise.
HOW DID YOU GUYS MISS PIG DESTROYER.
^Cause it’s not a part of CMJ?
Also on that cruise: Eyehategod. How’d you miss that?!?
The Rocks Off Concert Cruise is indeed part of CMJ. It’s on their events calendar.
you bastards didn’t report the Ungdomskulen show tonight! i’m pissed that i found out about it after the fact (online), while i checked this site last night.
FORTUNATELY, they are doing a late 3am set on Friday as well at Piano’s, according to their myspace.
they flew out from Norway just for CMJ.
they played a showcase w/ dillinger escape plan at SXSW (fyi) this year.
You also missed an extremely awesome motivational speech by Andrew W. K.
It changed my life.
