MUDVAYNE ARE “BEAUTIFUL AND STRANGE”
Tuesday, October 20th, 2009 at 11:30am by Axl Rosenberg
I’m not really a big Mudvayne fan, but I know a lot of you are. So it seems like my bloggerly duty to tell you that the band is streaming a new song, “Beautiful and Strange,” on their MySpace page.
And it sounds, y’know, like Mudvayne. If you like Mudvayne, I imagine you’ll like this song. If you don’t, I doubt this will win you over. At first I was like “Oh, listen to those drums, this is heavy!”, but then the song calmed down and just became a regular Mudvayne song. Not great, not terrible.
“Beautiful and Strange” comes from the band’s self-titled album, which will be out December 22. The cover art apparently looks awesome under black light.

Thanks to Kye for the tip!

TOOL should just start suing people.
lmao…
i was thinking the same thing….
black light my ass…
cant wait to see how TOOL top the 10000 days cd cover artwork steroscopic lens thing…
as long as its not like that rammsteins sausage thingy on their new album…
FUCK ALL YA’LL! mudvayne has always been good. here’s some advice to all you people… if you dont like the band dont listen to them, no need to talk shit.
It sounds like Mudvayne has finally discovered metalcore….after touring with those bands for 5 fucking years.
seriously.
Axl I wouldnt say many of us are fans of Mudvayne. I dont hate em but I certainly am not a fan, bassist is one of the only strong points of this band
Agree on the bassist.
They try a little too hard to stay current by changing music and fashion styles.
“SHIT FUCKING SUCKS!”

Christ. Do they just make the same song every time?
Eh… not too bad, but nothing great. Oh Mudvayne… you guys had so much potential.
At least they quit wearing that goofy make-up..(.I’m trying sooo hard to make a relatively positive comment here).
I have one word for this song or for Mudvayne in general: boring.
LD50 was one of the absolute best debut albums for a metal band in recent history. I think they even coined the term “math-metal”. That album STILL holds up, as I had it in a playlist with The Faceless, Obscura, and BTBAM, and it all flowed together so well. Imagine 1999 Mudvayne on tour with those bands. It’d be sick as fuck. R.I.P.
P.S. When did Chad become a redneck? Dude grew up in suburban Illinois, and all of a sudden he’s a southern good ol’ boy in Hellyeah. I don’t get it.
“I think they even coined the term “math-metal”. Incorrect…no cookie for you.
nope they did, suck it
Who here is a fan of Mudvayne, exactly?
Does being a fan of one particular band member count?
Ryan Martini, the bassist.
You probably thought I was going to say Chad, didn’t you asshole?
Meh, heard this song weeks ago,its okay but. I’m probably not going to buy this album either.
This shit sucks…LD50 showed alot of promise. They keep getting worse over time. Shitty HellYeah also ruined the immediate return of Nothingface which once again is sadly over.
Mudvayne, (along with Chimera and Shadows Fall) is a band that could fall off the edge of the world and I wouldn’t notice or care. In fact, I totally forgot this band existed until I saw this post.
Whenever I hear anything about Mudvayne I’m immediately transported back to 8th grade, getting drunk for the first time. Except unlike Mudvayne, I’ve matured since then. What a downhill spiral. The only bands from the nu metal era that made good albums were Mudvayne (LD.50) and Nothingface (pretty much everything), and both of those bands are dead. Nothingface literally, Mudvayne figuratively. Yet Linkin Park is still around. Injustice is served.
This song sounded too…metalcore for me. Seriously. Yet it’s a good song.
This is at least miles ahead off of anything that came off that last record. It’s funny, if Mudvayne had broken up after LD50, I dont think anyone would ever had said a bad thing to say about them. Nothing to Gein is still one of my favorite songs.
Mudvayne has been one of my favorite bands for a while… I really dig this tune.
MUDVAYNE IS THE GREATEST BAND EVER!
I absolutely dig the shit out of LD.50, and had alot of respect for The End of All Things to Come; because at least on that album it sounded like they were retaining their roots while exploring more epic textures. And then: BAM. Success killed the dream. It is my firm belief that someone in the band got fucked up on heroine once the money started rolling in, and then Hellyeah was formed.
No disrespect to Vinnie Paul, he probably needed to do something after his brother was murdered…but there’s no one that can tell me that that southern metal shit didn’t affect Chad’s vocal style or Mudvayne’s guitarist approach to songwriting. I mean really? They had leads on “The New Game”! Here’s hoping they wake the fuck up and get back to why they started this shit in the first place.
At least Metallica made a decent step in the right direction. Now they just need to beat James Hetfield’s ass and force him to call Jason Newstead and apologize and then beg him to rejoin the band!
why would do they want Jason back?
they’ve got Rob, and their a damn sight far better with than with jason!!!
To be brutally honest, I’ve been a fan of Mudvayne every since hearing their song “Happy?” off of their effort ‘Lost And Found’. From there on in, I went back through their catalogue and got LD 50, the end of all things to come and even their re-release of ‘Kill, I oughtta’ (which is the beginning of all things to end).
Ever since their kinda dumb release ‘By the people, for the people’ (which included “dull boy” which would be on ‘the new game’) I’ve been slowly growing out of this band. I used to always listen to LD 50 and just think “wow”
but this song…has surprised me in ways. On one hand, I like it, but I don’t. Like: the lyrics…interesting topic. Don’t: the start, the melodies…almost everything. And I agree, when the fuk did chad become a southerner? Hellyeah are good, but it just seems like an excuse for that waster douchebag Vinnie to delay other bands just because somebody murdered his brother. Jeez, get over it already!
“Jeez, get over it already!”
You are a fucking douchebag.
For the most part I agree with all of you and yeah the band has definitely gone soft…Oh the days when LD50 first came out, those I remember like yesterday and wish for them again. That album had everything and to this day that is still the one I turn to…I’m actually on like my 6th or 7th copy now and the rest of the CD”s they sit in my car unplayed and disliked minus a few songs.
wow everyone, seriously, learn to appreciate music. i am one of mudvaynes biggest fans and they change it up with every fuckin album. “The New Game” was just a start-it-up-again album. they had been on hiatus for two years and just wanted to let everyone know that theyre back. so now theyre pullin their shit together to make another heavy album. dont let one album’s debut song win your opinion on how its gunna turn out. if you dont like mudvayne, SUCK IT BITCHES!
if you dont like mudvayne why the hell are you all checking out this page
you guys are flippin morons
and yes they did coin the term “math metal”
suck it
mudvayne fuckin rules and they always will
they are not posers of tool either
the real posers are you guys and nickelback.
yeah “SUCK IT BITCHES”
this is a good song! Nice 7/8 5/4 brigde! I like that , Mudvayne.
Man IMO Mudvayne is one the best bands out, yeh maybe they’ve gotten a little lighter but call it evolution. Every band does it, like it or not. I;ve already read this is gonna be the heaviest album they’ve made since l.d 50. You gotta also take into consideration that the first single off of any album is the “lightest” song, so give it a chance damn. Just listen to DIG,Determined,Forget to remember,A world so cold, Chad Gray= One of the best vocalists out.
