I know we give Metallica all sorts of shit around here, and I’ve made several jokes about them not loving their fans – but this is pretty serious, and it’s very cool of them to get involved.
They’ve posted the following message on their Facebook page:
One Of Our Fans Is MissingWe are deeply concerned about the disappearance of 20 year old Virginia Tech student Morgan Dana Harrington, who was last seen while attending our concert at the John Paul Jones Arena in Charlottesville, VA, on Saturday night.Morgan has blonde hair and blue eyes, is 5′6″, 120 lbs., and was wearing a black “Pantera” T-shirt, black skirt, and black boots. She was not carrying I.D. or a cell phone. Morgan was separated from her friends shortly before 9pm at the venue. Police have been searching the area since Monday.
We encourage anyone who has any information regarding Morgan’s disappearance to please come forward. Additionally, if you or anyone you know shot video footage or took photos of the concert or audience, please check to see if there is anyone in your photos who might resemble Morgan. Please contact the Virginia State Police at (434) 352-3425 or the UVA Police at (434) 924-7166 or police@virginia.edu. if you have any information.
Our thoughts are with Morgan and her family for her safe return.

Maybe this happens all the time in some places, but how often is it that a band does something this righteous and respectable? Not often, and what if that had been you, assholes? You know what makes me sick? When someone accuses someone of something (E.G. being unable to ejaculate properly) when they have no clue who the people they’re insulting really are. ESPECIALLY if said accusation is a stereotype. As in, the pluralization the example given contained.
I am also sickened that someone is pretentious enough to tell a group of people that they need to stop being self-righteous, and then goes on to demand that his targets focus on a cause that “matters.” Nope, designation of importance in issues isn’t self-righteous at all.
Another thing, that Slipknot comment. Pretty fail. I’d be insulted if Slipknot wrote a song about me. I can’t speak for everyone (as i’m not a prick like you), but i’m pretty sure most people here wouldn’t want slipknot to write a song for them either, and probably wouldn’t be at a slipknot show. That news report gets out “Girl possibly kidnapped at Metallica show,” without them having said anything at all on it, and they’d be royally FUCKED. People would eat that shit up. All right, first of all, I was a prick, yes, and I admit it. But it really sickens me when people make fun of shit like this. I mean, a girl’s been kidnapped. So what if she’s white and stuff? That really shouldn’t matter, even though it does to some people.
1. I have no idea who can or can’t ejaculate properly. So, yeah, that was heated and over the top. Like I admitted, I was a bit of a prick. Some of the comments got me fired up, and I apologize.
2. The Slipknot thing was an insult to Slipknot’s obsession with the whole stalker/murderer thing, not to the band itself or any fan or anyone who doesn’t like them.
3. True, I can see it from that side, but do you honestly think this is an isolated event? I’ve not seen any other band make an anouncement about stuff like this, and I bet it happens all the time.
4. It’s not that being disrespectful makes you less of a metal fan– it’s more that I was applying the subgenre thing here, such as Pantera v. Metallica. Some people consider them thrash, prog, just plain heavy rock, whatever. So “metal fans” was just a furthering of that. Guess it wasn’t clear.
So yeah, I got fired up, and I was a total jerk. And so I guess that makes me a bit of a hypocrite, really. Smart enough to realize that and admit my assholery, though.
And I don’t see how finding a kidnapping as not a joking matter to be self-righteous.

Doing a little more research, (which is reported by virginia police, so it is reliable) i found out that she was at the venue, went looking for the bathroom and somehow magically ended up outside. apparently, she didnt have a cell phone on her and just dissapeared. which = fail.

I’m both Catholic and a metal fan and I fail to see any correlation whatsoever between the two. Being alone without a cellphone (or even just being alone) at a metal concert is probably not the smartest idea. cmon just have a little repect for yourselves and maybe the average “male metal fans” will respect you as well.
