Not that we had any doubt Baroness’ Blue Record would have a strong debut, but it’s always nice to see the proof. And Skeletonwitch’s ripping new record Breathing the Fire had a great debut too; I’m elated to see the band sell as many records first week as they did. Elsewhere it was the usual radio rock / alt-metal suspects dominating the charts. Click through to see chart positions and sales figures.

13    BREAKING BENJAMIN  -  DEAR AGONY
This week: 26,569
Cume: 203,001

Oy.

17    ALICE IN CHAINS  -  BLACK GIVES WAY TO BLUE
This Week: 23,023
Cume: 185,775

This record is slipping down the charts quite quickly as is de rigueur this days, so hopefully the AIC guys don’t pull a Dave Mustaine and blame their label.

33    MUSE – RESISTANCE
This week: 15,394
Cume: 222,275

That’s a great number for this band in the U.S., no?

49    METALOCALYPSE: DETHKLOK  -  DETHALBUM II
This week: 10,892
Cume: 72,010

57    FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH – WAR IS THE ANSWER
This week: 9,521
Cume: 84,463

65    SHINEDOWN  -  SOUND OF MADNESS
This week: 8,386
Cume: 771,480

95    CHEVELLE  -  SCI-FI CRIMES
This week: 5,697
Cume: 104,954

108    THEORY OF A DEADMAN  -  SCARS & SOUVENIRS
This week: 5,031
Cume: 731,310

111    RODRIGO Y GABRIELA  -  11:11
This week: 4,884
Cume: 42,517

117    BARONESS  -  BLUE RECORD
This week: 4,696 (debut)

A huge debut for this band and a huge debut for Relapse. Congrats to everyone! Will they follow Mastodon’s footsteps from the metal underground to the mainstream? FYI, this record netted #1 on the “Top New Artist” chart and #15 on “Top Hard Music.”

142    MEGADETH – ENDGAME
This week: 3,948
Cume: 75,795

Boo fucking hoo, you’ve sold nearly 100,000 records. Now go tour and make money the way everyone else does these days, douche.

151    SKELETONWITCH  -  BREATHING THE FIRE
This week: 3,483 (debut)

I honestly did not expect these guys to sell so many records but I’m of course happy they did. I guess they have hardcore fans.

154    HATEBREED – HATEBREED
This week: 3,326
Cume: 24,001

Is this band’s popularity finally waning or do people just care more about their lives show than their records?

166    STEEL PANTHER  -  FEEL THE STEEL
This week: 3,047
Cume: 13,655

This band will be dropped from Universal faster than you can say “my cock’s a free spirit.” Too bad, ’cause they rule.

167    CHICKENFOOT – CHICKENFOOT
This week: 3,017
Cume: 329,162

  1. Those two records definitely deserve it.

    • Jordan says:

I agree completely. I’m glad to see metal albums charting in general. I, for one, embrace good metal getting to the mainstream (or at least getting the respect it deserves).

  2. I bought both the Baroness and Skeletonwitch records. Totally awesome.

  3. TXHellbilly says:

First day buyer of Breathing the Fire here, fucking great record. As for hatebreed, I couldnt agree with you more, I didnt buy their new album, but definitely did get tickets to see them next month with Cannibal Corpse. It’s also really good to see Dethklok posting such solid numbers.

  4. Ziltoid says:

    Good for Baroness.

Couldn’t care less about the rest of them…

  5. groverXIII says:

Both the Baroness and Skeletonwitch albums are awesome, so this shouldn’t be a huge surprise. Baroness’ album especially is fucking great.

  6. Jake says:

Bought both of them in the first week, and I’ll be seeing Baroness live in Austin. Great, great albums.

  7. Metdude says:

LOL. Dethklok are actually going to outsell Megadeth. That’s hilarious.

Oh, and Vince, AIC are holding up just fine. They’ve spent 3 weeks in the Top 20 now, which is something crybaby Mustaine has only managed once in his career, which was back in 1992 with Countdown To Extinction.

  8. Tom says:

Hails to Skeletonwitch!!! Great to see ALL THAT FKN TOURING has earned them a cool fanbase that goes out and BUYS records!!! Long may they THRASH!

    • TXHellbilly says:

I couldnt agree more man. I have seen them 3 times in the past year in the Dallas area. They tour like crazy. I REALLY wish they would have come back again with Children Of Bodom though

      • Discipleofthewatch says:

Yeah, it was awesome in the Southern California area. I was lucky enough to see them with Children of Bodom and it was great. I met Mr. Laiho before the show, too, near the tour bus. He’s cool, he’ll talk for a minute to us fans.

You’re starting to sound more like Toki Wartooth every day! But it should read, “Ams this band’s popularity finallys waning or ams peoples just cares mores abouts lives show thans their record?

  10. Discipleofthewatch says:

Skeletonwitch was great live! I picked up their album at the show on the tenth. They gave me a free Skeletonwitch patch to go with it.

  11. cougar party says:

The new Baroness is great. I hope it continues to sell well. I wonder how it compares to the red album debut.

  12. attackmole says:

I don’t like Hatebreed’s CD’s, but there’s something about Jamey Jasta as a frontman that whenever I see him I have to pay attention (and I’ve seen both Hatebreed and Kingdom of Sorrow). Dude’s one hell of a frontman. Maybe their live show is all they got going for em.

    • Hammer_Smashed_Hurtt/ I Fucked Ziltoid's Mom says:

To be honest i was more impressed by the covers album than their new release. Id like to see them step up their skills after hearing their cover of Ghosts of war. I got it their a Hardcore Band, but cmon you know they got more than that.

  13. Paul Quinn says:

Wow. That Hatebreed number is REALLY low. I’m kinda surprised, considering how fucking huge their fanbase is. Crazy.

And I only just started listening to Baroness (tried to dig the red album but it wasn’t happening), but Blue Record is fucking tight and tasty. Still have to check out the new Skeletonwitch.

  14. Roland says:

Seriously, How do terribly generic radio rock bands sell that many records. Breaking Benjamin, Theory of a Deadman, Shinedown, Five Finger Death Punch, Chickenfoot etc.

I get that people have their own tastes but this music is just plain predictable and bad. Having said that, its great to see some great metal bands selling well.

  15. Mark Gavin says:

I kind of liked that Chickenfoot album. Nothing special but it’s some good ol’ rock n’ roll.

    • Discipleofthewatch says:

Yeah, my metalhead coworker (all one of him) played it for me loudly one Friday and it was okay. Southern rock style.

  16. The Ghost of D. Boon says:

Oh my God 329,169 people bought the Chickenfoot record.

I don’t care whether you think they’re good or bad or whatever. Do you really think Chickenfoot deserve to sell Three Hundred Thousand records? Fucking REALLY?

  17. Celts67 says:

If people would just get their tongues out of the asses of Baroness long enough they might figure out that the new album is a piece of astonishing mediocrity. This from someone who really enjoyed The Red Album. The definition of over-hyped and over-rated.
