If Iron Maiden didn’t want their power cut or to be egged onstage, they shouldn’t have been talking shit about Ozzy from the Ozzfest stage. Simple “Cause and Effect”. Anybody who knows anything about rock tours over the last 25+ years knows that Sharon Osbourne is not the person you want to fuck with if she’s involved with a tour your band is doing. I’m not even an Ozzy fan but her reputation speaks for itself.The Mighty Midget Bruce Dickensen should’ve known that.

I went to the one in Columbus, OH in ’97, the first year it became a traveling tour. Ozzy canceled due to being sick (hungover), so all the mainstage bands got together with Ozzy’s band and jammed Ozzy covers all night. It was fuckin incredible. Guys from Pantera, Type O Negative, Fear Factory, Machine Head, and even Marilyn Manson were all onstage at once, jamming out Crazy Train and Mr. Crowley and shit. So yeah, I think that year the vibe was pretty strong for the bands to come together and do that. WAAAAAY better than actually seeing Ozzy play.

I think it really depends on what bands you ask and which ozzfest years you’re referring to. Most of the bands who did the 2004 year, especially on the 2nd stage, talked about how much fun they had because of the great vibes between all the bands, and it isn’t surprising when you look at who played the tour that year: Unearth, God Forbid, Devildriver, Lamb of God, Hatebreed, Slipknot – all of which are friends have toured together multiple times.

Then you look at the 2006 year that Devin is talking about, where System of a Down apparently demanded and were granted close to $300,000 per show.

Daath was on the tour in 2007, the year it was free. I wonder if Eyal can give his 2 cents on his ozzfest experience that year in one of his upcoming posts.

Ozzfest was like the uncle or father that raped a few members of your family. Nobody has shit to say about all the fucked up shit he did until he’s on his deathbed or after the funeral.

Looked like it was all smiles and was even noted by people as something great (dare someone to say legendary). Underneath, it was just an ugly fucking thing that occasionally came to touch where it wasn’t supposed to.

Yeah, that sounds just like him. Devin’s way too smart and funny for all the poser teenage metalcore douchebag bands that play Ozzfest these days.

Imagine an artist of Devin’s calibre being shunted off into a corner of a field to play some of the most brutal, brilliant metal ever created… to a bunch of people who haven’t even finished breakfast yet.

I’m sure all the metalcore knuckle-draggers with tattoos on their necks didn’t know what to make of Devin’s sharp, ascerbic wit and breath-taking songwriting talent.
