Wise words. I feel like metal is pushing each other way.. when in fact this is the last thing that we need to be doing in order to survive. This is one of the most intricate facts about metal...its sensitivity. We all love the music, and we all share the same trait: when someone is discordant of it, we stand up for it. Regardless of what people below might say about how "lazy" we are for saying "fuck genres, music is music", you really have to ask yourself if arguments are really what music needs to begin with. Avoiding the simple fact that music is going to evolve regardless of what you say is something that simply cannot be done. If you really want to save your music, than you need to support its entirety. There's nothing wrong with having an open opinion, but battling each other time and time again about the same repetitive subject is getting us nowhere. All music is repetitive in some way. The most common chord progression is the three-chord I - IV - V progression, which ALL styles of music have exercised heavily. Who cares if it has breakdowns, blast beats, hardcore screaming, guttural growling, pig squealing, singing, major progressions, minor progressions, syncopated rhythms, "synchronized t-banging" or whatever it's called, happy riffs, dark riffs, tremolo picking, thrash patterns, etc. It's all metal and it's all unique in some way, shape, or form. If one band's sound or stage show doesn't appeal to you, then just move on to the next. I'm sure if that band has enough talent, they'll do just fine without your listen. People go to metal to be inadvertently rebellious and to stray away from the mainstream, so why not give them some comfort when they get there instead of intense criticism of what sub-genre they're listening to or why they're listening to it? Just be happy that they're listening to it, period! They're helping to keep your music alive!

As much as I love Dallas and God Forbid, I simply cannot agree with Dallas. Deathcore may be the worst thing to happen to music im a long time. Grunge and Nu Metal werent nearly as bad as all these shitty, lame ass Deathcore bands. I would gladly welcome back Glam Metal or Nu Metal than have this stupid fad go on any longer. Dead chords and breakdowns are very lame and the kids that listen to them are even lamer.

Deathcore is the opposite of evolution. I did it, I put them into a sentence together, and it makes sense.

Instead of writing off an entire genre, I prefer to evalute the bands based on their individual talents. All Shall Perish are awesome. Whitechapel is pretty cool. Suicide Silence is average. And Waking the Cadaver is mind-bendingly horrible.

If it's an overused practice, fuck it.

That goes for anything. I'm not ashamed to say the overuse of Blastbeats is stupid either.

So by that logic, in the past decade there have been plenty of death metal and black metal bands which have come and gone that suck and all surely used blast beats, so i guess fuck blast beats?

It's more like frosting. The better its made, and the right amount makes a cake taste delicious.

However, if it's some horribly made, half-assed, clumpy frosting, and it actually makes up 9/10ths of the cake?

It's no longer a cake anymore. It's an abomination that makes you never want cake, or anything with frosting anymore.

Every time I see someone who loves breakdowns so much, I think of a morbidly obese kid clapping for joy at the sight of the previously mentioned 90% frosting cake .

So fuck breakdowns.

Breakdowns in metal is like sausage on pizza; it makes something so good taste even better. Chew on it, savour it, don't be so quick to hate just because of it's "title". Douche Nozzles!

You know if it wasn't for Metalsucks I would probably A.) Never even heard Oceano, or B.) Would have totally dismissed them, because even I was begining to suffer from belief that if a new band could be pinned as "deathcore" then they must not be very interesting.

Thank you Metal Sucks, it is because of you that I was able to shake my preconceptions and listen to a band that I previously wrote off. I can prouldy call myself an Oceano fan now.

ASP has some merit, BOO don't really fit into this genre in my opinion (they have some potential though), Suicide Silence are pretty basic, but they are some young dudes (again, potential)...Oceano I will completely disregard; amazingly generic, ripoff stuff...

I think the better bands that have elements of deathcore rise above this little genre niche - take the Red Chord for example...they do what the bands mentioned do, they do it much better AND they do much, much more...The Faceless as well...

I'm listening to TRC's "Fed Through the Teeth Machine" at the moment, and it is just MILES beyond this stuff, while still containing the good elements...
