Thanks to MetalSucks uber-Maniac (I’m giving him an upgrade since he actually came to New York and sought us out at a show) Mark Mortiz-Rabson for alerting us to the following incredibly important message on Between the Buried and Me’s MySpace page:

Wednesday we will be hanging at The Fillmore in Charlotte, NC from 5:30 to 6:30… we will be selling tickets for an upcoming show there February 6th. This is the only day you can get the tickets with no service charge… and they are only 10 bucks!!!! can’t beat that…
the greatest part is who is on the bill…. Cynic, The Devin Townsend Project and Scale the Summit!! Yes we are doing a full US with that lineup in January/February in support of our new record… dates will be revealed soon.

We’ve heard that this tour was happening, but this is the first time anyone has spoken of it publicly (that I’m aware of, at least). I wonder if BTBAM jumped the gun in making the announcement?
No matter. It’s obviously gonna be an incredible tour. We’ll post dates as soon as we get ‘em. For now, I’d just like to suggest that the organizers of this tour seriously consider using the image at the top as their poster image.

holy fucking asscrackers i’m jizzing as i type this

  3. David Hulsey says:

This really needs to happen close to me. I will be PISSED if this one passes me up.

  4. Leprosy says:

Which band do you think will be the best there????!!!!?!?!?!?!??

    • devin townsend, followed by cynic, followed by scale the summit, followed by btbam far behind. Heres the problem I have with that band live:
They treat their fans as non intelligent groups of ass hats by playing just standing there with no interaction up until the last song which they decide to actually get into just to leave the fans with a good taste in their mouth, it’s happened both times I”ve seen them. Fuck them, they have trouble writing good songs anyway let alone playing them live

      • Playing music as technical as Between the Buried and Me and still being able to put off the sound quality that they have live is almost impossible.

BTBAM’s music (IMO) was made to be listened to as a sonic experience.

If you want interaction, then go to an Emmure show or something you ninny.

      • Josh says:

Well then, maybe you sir should just, “Step back. Evaluate. Recognize.” And maybe listen to the fucking music, asshole. Or maybe you should start a band and write BETTER/ORIGINAL songs if you don’t like the way they do it. That’s all they’re asking you to do anyways, throw some new ideas in.
None of these bands on this bill will give a shit what you think of their “moves”, and if that’s what you’re worried about, maybe you’d be better off at home that night. This music is what it is, it’s there for the ones who choose to take it for what it is, so if something’s going on that you’re not hearing the music right, don’t bash the bands buddy. Maybe YOU just have certain aspects of the whole picture wrong.

      • msv81 says:

Damn, talk about being condemned for having an opinion. People need to learn not to get so butt hurt when someone makes a negative comment about a band they hold in high regard.

Big deal, Harrington doesn’t like BTMAM’s live show, throw a fucking hissy fit why don’t you?

      • LilalCFH says:

I completely agree. I love their albums, but man, do they suck live. I’ve seen ‘em twice and they just bored the shit outta me both times. Incredible (and I mean fucking in-cred-ible) studio band… Not so much on stage.

Some bands can play extremely technical shit and still go ape shit (MESHUUUUGAAAH!!!!), but some can’t.

  11. Walker says:

That show has to be 6 hours long to fully appreciate each act

  12. Sin and Death says:

I have no luck, so this’ll be one of the shows that doesn’t come within 300 miles of Baltimore. But hell, even if it is a long trek to see, I may be forced to make the trip. I might drive to North Carolina if I have to!

    • msv81 says:

Dude, most tours come to the Philadelphia area and the ones that don’t almost always end up stopping in Baltimore. I drive to your town on a relatively regular basis to catch shows at Sonar or one of the smaller clubs. It’s only about 100 miles, give or take, from Philly to Baltimore or vise-versa.

You should check out Philly dates (which include Allentown and Lancaster within 40 miles or so) more often because we really do get, like, 90% of all metal tours.

      • Sven says:

True, but man do I fucking hate the Croc Rock. They always oversell tickets, Allentown is full of assholes, and it’s a goddamn furnace inside no matter what the weather is outside.

        • msv81 says:

Totally agreed, that place is a hot, steaming cauldron of shit. Have you ever tried moshing, or even moving, on the main floor? It may as well be made of ice, at least that way people wouldn’t confuse it as having any footing whatsoever. Allentown in general is a giant shithole, too. It’s kind of upsetting so many shows are starting to get booked there.

My personal favorite is The Troc, closely followed by The Factory. The TLA is alright but it really bothers me that they don’t have an outdoor smoking area.

      • stu1 says:

Not to mention NJ/NYC is well within 300 miles of Baltimore.

    • msv81 says:

Speaking of The Troc, looks like this show is stopping there on Sunday, January 31st.

      http://www.thetroc.com/events.php

Tix are $17 advance/$19 at the door.

    • Natalie says:

Last I heard, there is a Baltimore date.

2/1 Baltimore, MD @ Sonar. Although that’s from Lambgoat, it’s most likely true.

  13. Jimmy says:

They’d better fucking come to Kentucky or West Virginia.

  14. moyles says:

for fuck sakes come to canada and stop into newfoundland… no one does… NO ONE FUCKING DOES. you americans dont know how good you got it, any one who doesnt live in newfoundland really.. fuck i hate my life

Somewhere near Salt Lake City pleeeaaassseee!!!! We don’t get a whole lot of good shows… but shit once in a while would be nice….. Dohhh Ihhhtttt!!!!

  17. Aaron Camp says:

This will probably be the best concert of my life. Even if it doesn’t come to KCMO, I’ll drive as far as Denver to see this shit.

  18. Ziltoid says:

    Whoa whoa whoa….hold on.

    CYNIC = AWESOME

DEVIN = AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME

    Scale the Summit = Decent

BtBaM = Why? Why this crap? Why ruin a perfectly good tour with this atrocious band????????

And by the sounds of it, these assholes might be headlining. That would be HORRIBLE! Devin has stated that they’re performing material from a lot of past albums, so he needs a headlining slot to get the most in. Assuming that he’s below Cynic and BtBaM, a slot that low means…45 minutes? Fuck, I want 1.5-2 hours of DTP!!! Why…why….why? I hope he’s the one doing the headlining and the were just writing the artists in alphabetical order…

thus continues the rise of Scale the Summit. cannot fucking wait for this tour!

  21. too bad between the buried and me were pretty awful when i saw them, ill go for devin townsend and cynic. Im going to hate the crowd there, btbam will bring too many flat billed upper middle class suburban wiggers,I don’t know why those kids have to follow btbam who are good on cd.Kinda ruins the experience you know?

    • Sven says:

Saw BTTBAM recently, and they sounded awful live. Muddy and indistinguishable. I’m not sure what that’s all about.

    • Nick says:

Why post two negative replies about btbam on this thread? It makes it seem like you’re actually trying to find reasons to dislike them. They’ve been very good live each of the multiple times i’ve seen them but that’s just my ears. If them not moving around much while playing is not your thing then that’s fine..some people need that to enjoy a show. However saying that them not moving around while playing is treating their fans like non-intelligent asshats? That’s completely ridiculous and sounds like it’s more of your problem than theirs. It’s hard enough just to play the shit that they write. Same goes for the other awesome bands on this tour… probably the wrong tour to see if you’re expecting a lot of running around and shit on stage.

      • Natalie says:

Because Cynic and Devin are on another level of musicianship and longevity. That’s probably why.

      • Sven says:

Don’t get me wrong, I got Colors a few months ago, kinda liked it, but haven’t listened to it again.

If anything, I’m trying to find reasons to like them more. Sounding like a muddy mess live doesn’t help, whether they’re jumping around on stage or not.

  22. Detroit date plz, k thx!

  23. d00shc00gr says:

I WOULD like to be super excited about this…
But the last several AWESOME tours like this have never gotten closer to Detroit than Chicago; it seems like Detroit’s booking agents have something against awesome metal (although we DID get the Mastodon/Dethklok tour)
Basically, I’m preemptively bitching that the only midwest dates are gonna be Cleveland and Chicago. But we’ll see

  24. Elyk says:

Will be there for sure, no matter where the nearest there is to me!

  25. Iand says:

Everybody who seems to like DTP also seems to like Cynic on this board. So as somebody who loves devin and has never heard Cynic, would I like Cynic? what album is a good place to start with them?

  26. Captain Wookie says:

    HOLY SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Now that that’s out of my system, this should be quite excellent.

  27. myke says:

    sign me up!

  28. Brian \m/(-_-)\m/ says:

    there! there! SO FUCKING THERE!

  29. g says:

    BONER TIME.

ill be leaving after devin and cynic play, but goddamn ive been waiting to see both for a long time.

  30. OldUncleAl says:

    Better come to Canada.

  31. hobo7088 says:

While i didn’t quite have an orgasm, i did manage to shit myself dry after glancing at this lineup.

  32. Tim Shanks says:

This line up is almost unfair. It’s too damn good.

  33. Jo says:

wait this Wednesday or next Wednesday when mastodon is going be at the Fillmore cuase if its tonight i gotta off my ass and drive down there real quick. its 30 mintues away. plus traffic. so yeah today or next w

  34. HokiePokie says:

AAAAAAAAAH OH MY GOD CYNIC!? CHARLOTTE!? I LIVE IN NC.

OH MY GOD. I NEED TO GET MAH MOTHER TO GET ME THERE!!!

But then I gotta listen to Between the Buried and Me so I don’t feel like an ass hole for going there. Oh dear… That’s tomorrow too… I should bring money for the CD, I mean, this band can’t suck right? I mean, eee!!! I want to see Cynic so bad and it’d be totally kick ass if I got to see other good bands that I actually listen to there!!!

I WILL KILL FOR CYNIC. I also hear very good things about Devin Townsend… :)

  38. There had better be a Portland, OR show or I am going to be quite pissed.

  39. Noah says:

I’m shitting my pants so hardcore right now

  40. FrostMechanic says:

I HAVE to see Cynic again. I saw them on the Dragonforce tour (I obviously went for Cynic, but Dragonforce were awesome too) back in April, but they only got a 40 minute set (long enough to play Traced in Air and Celestial Voyage off of Focus).

  41. LilalCFH says:

DTP will reign supreme… because there is a universe in us all.

  42. jagbag says:

I’ll go for Cynic and Devy.

  43. SYL Townsend says:

i cant believe i’m reading this! I haven’t seen devin sense like 06. Definately buying tickets for NYC NJ and Boston if they play there. BTBAM is a great band but Dev is the real reason why im going to these shows

  44. selkies626 says:

I love BTBAM but i have a hard time understanding some of the resons why people dislike them so much someone mind explaining to me but logical reasons not shit reasons like ” oh cause they fucking suck” IMO I believe this is an amazing tour. I love all these acts.

  46. groverXIII says:

Wow… this sounds like a truly awesome tour. I peed a little bit.

  47. JustGrimace says:

I started masturbating when I read the article. I don’t care how close they come to Toledo, If they don’t come closer than Philly, then I’ll take a vacation.

  48. Townsend4ever says:

all you ppl saying they better come to canada….well devin townsend (AKA god) is from canada so i think they might go there and i could care less about the other bands but i might try cynic cause it seems all the other townsend lovers seem to like cynic so why not damn last time dev came to el paso he was with strapping young lad damn i hope they come here oh god(devin) i hope they do DEVIN owns all other musicians

  49. Townsend4ever says:

oh and all the other devin townsend fans out there that are pissed at him touring with BTBAM… hevy devy hasnt confermed a tour yet so yeah lets all hold hands and sing the entire ziltoid album and pray he tours with some one else perferable hmself that would be awesome

  50. This tour should have a subtitle under Orgasm. ‘Orgasm… Of Progressive Soup’ . Because after my ears are filled with every note from every band, I’m probably just going to quit listening to music all together. Why bother? Plus, I enjoy all 4 bands on board. I’ve just recently got into Devin Townsend (I know, sad on my part) but I was a fan of SYL’s music, and from what I’m hearing so far, I’m genuinely stoked. I can only hope that all 4 bands get on stage at the end of this and do an 8 part guitar harmony that rips a portal open in time and swallows the earth.
