SLAYER’S WORLD PAINTED BLOOD NOW STREAMING
Friday, October 30th, 2009 at 1:30pm by Axl RosenbergSo as if you didn’t know, the new Slayer album, World Painted Blood, comes out this Tuesday (or I guess Monday if you’re in Europe). But as usually happens these days, the record is now streaming in full right here. Go check it out.
I’ll have a full review next week, but allow me to stir shit up right off the bat:
World Painted Blood > Endgame > Death Magnetic
If only Anthrax had actually gotten an album out this year…

Thanks to the reader known only as “L” for the tip.

just listened to a couple songs on it and they rule. Definitely buying the special edition tuesday. Wouldnt go as far as sayin its better than Endgame, cuz both are so fuckin great. But their both better than Death Magnetic. Respect ur opinion though METAL!!!!
Got the e-mail that my pre-order is on its way. WOO-HOO!!
is it better than the new btbam album?
im still too busy listening to that to do this
judging by the tracks that’ve already been posted, no.
and this is coming from someone who doesn’t really like between the buried and me.
It’s really hard to compare the two. I love both.
already in stores here (belgium)
I’ll have a full review next week, but allow me stir shit up right off the bat:
World Painted Blood > Endgame > Death Magnetic
Funny part about that is, I bet top record sales are the exact opposite order ;-)
sad but possibly true. but we still have under 2 weeks to see wat kinda number Slayer will leave. but your statement does sound likely
Slayer will DEFINITELY come in between the two in sales… higher than Endgame, but considerably lower than Death Magnetic.
Agreed. Columbia are actually doing a decent job promoting this. There’s the MySpace Music take over this weekend, the Hot Top instore at West Hollywood, the appearance on Jimmy Kimmel plus the videos discussing each song being posted on sites like Spin, Metal Hammer and Fangoria, which helps to get the word out to different audiences. It should do quite well in its first week. Maybe better than what Christ Illusion did.
nah. i think slayer will do much better than megadeth. as far as i recall, their last album sold surprisingly well, in canada at least. megadeth though – fuck megadeth. mustaine’s endorsing that retard alex jones to the point where he named his freaking album after one of his “documentaries”. anyone with politics that stupid doesn’t deserve to sell shit.
I’m pretty sure we’re going to get tips from someone named “Kira” now
+1
+1,000 for manga nerds
KIRA WILL SAVE US!!!!!!!!!
Harhahr
Wow, i need to know shit.
It’s not a bad album, but I wouldn’t put it above Death Magnetic or Endgame. Not that it’s bad… it’s just not as good as the others.
Death Magnetic was massively Meh to me. I havn’t heard Endgame yet. WPB COMPLETELY owns
DM.
I heard this when it leaked sometime last week, and it sucks. I’m so disappointed.
And it sounds like shit, just like Death Magnetic did.
seriously. somebody get a real producer in here please! this album sounds like total shit. exactly in the same way that death magnetic did. and could be way better if it was just properly produced, just like death magnetic.
I mean, is there even a bass track at all? it’s way overcompressed, and way too much on the high end of the sound spectrum. I want to hear metal albums that sound like Pantera’s Far Beyond Driven. now that was a well produced metal sound.
Yea really, are vince and axl not aware of the “loudness war”, or do they just not care? They don’t really mention it ever.
This album sounds like complete shit, and is as loud as Death Magnetic, which shouldent be surprise, because it was produced by the guy who mixed death magnetic, greg fiddelman.
I’ve got to say i prefer Endgame to this. Endgame had a lot more stand-out songs, waaaay better guitar solos and it all just stuck in my head so well. But WPB is the same as usual, but without the two key songs a Slayer album usually has. Hate Worldwide is the only song that stood out for me at all.
Don’t get me wrong, it’s *good*, but it’s just too much of the same for me.
Agreed. I mean it’s better than Death Magnetic but Endgame is much more listenable and as you said, Dan, too much of the same, especially when it comes to Kerry’s solos.
To put mit simply WPB has thrash songs. Endgame has good, original thrash songs
endgame is definitely not anywhere near death magnetic. Endgame is the first album in a while that i listened to three times and then threw out the fucking window of my car. total garbage. and I like the previous two.
and from what I’ve heard from world painted blood, It sounds pretty shitty. slayer has completely stopped progressing. I even like god hates us all and diabolous in musica. but lately they have just rehashed the same old shit too often. same solos, same riffs. same old bullshit. they need to reinvent themselves or retire.
sounds like every other slayer song…… idk i just cant get with it…..
Agree completely – WPB > Endgame > DM. It feels wayyyy more realized than Christ Illusion did – tighter songs, no filler. DM had some real stinkers, and Engame was good, but not great. Personally I think “The System has Failed” was the last “great” Megadeth album. And I don’t think the production on WPB even comes close to the atrocity that was Death Magnetic. It works for Slayer, but not Metallica.
i sometimes wonder if you guys actually like anything….even peanut butter and jelly.
Don’t worry, there are a lot of us thinking the same thing.
Yea, the production isn’t great, although hard to tell on myspace stream, but I’m digging it. Totally not up to the ‘back to the days of Seasons…’ hype, but it’s got some songs that I think will grow on a listener, and the songs sound more thought out. Plus, just to have a litle less of Kerry’s ‘i hate religion’ stuff is a relief, don’t get me wrong, i agree with him, but man he beats that into the ground. sounds like there is more Jeff on this album. As far as the comparisons, I liked ‘Endgame’ when I heard it, but nothing stuck with me and i’ve never had and urge to go back and buy it. As for ‘Death Magnetic’ very flawed but a step in the right direction at least. But WPB will ultimately be a good record I think, just will need more than one listen!
The production isn’t as bad as everyone is saying. Yes the guitar tone they went for has absolutely zero gain, which i think is down to Mr. Fidelman, once again he has shown that he should not be producing metal bands. It is once again over compressed. But i’ve said it before, people take for granted the modern standard of production. It’s not like it was in the 80’s/early 90’s, where records could be completly ruined by bad engineers, case and point “Breeding The Spawn”, “Reek of Putrefaction”. Those were ruined. I admit that band’s at Slayer’s level should expect the best though. And I can kind of see what Fidelman was going for, a more punkish vibe, but he has stripped everything down too much in my opinion.
Why make excuses for them? It sounds shitty, that doesen’t mean the material is shitty.
excuses?
Having listened to them in their prime in my formative years, I feel disappointed by all 3 releases by the big 3. I’m not saying the discs are bad by any stretch, but at this point they are just rehashing their old material. Would love to see either Slayer or Megadeth try to evolve their sound in some fashion ( I still like to pretend that Risk album never happened). I think that depending on which band you preferred in their hey day will purely drive which one you like better. Each time i listen to these releases, I feel like I’ve already heard them before in some fashion. I’ll give credit to Metallica for at least trying to get back to a respectable sound, but I still found it the most forgettable of the 3. IMO End Game edges the other 2 out, but only cause I generally prefer Megadeth over the other 2.
I agree, even though i am a massive slayer fan.
I love it, and I have it pre-ordered. Fuck you haters :]
Liked it, but “Playing With Dolls” sucks
Wahh Wahh!! Fuck your over sensitive ears and the Loudness War. These songs are good and my EQ can adjust the sound. WPB> Death Magnetic> Endgame.
not even a good song on the album
If you hate Slayer or this album don’t worry Slayer hates you too.
I’m afraid to listen. I’m afraid I’ll be quoting The Who, “meet the new boss, same as the old boss.”
Okay, I conjured up the courage to listen, and well…I may have to take back what I said. One thing King and Hanneman have always been good at are writing prolific hook riffs. Early returns…aside from terrible Myspace sound quality, it’s pretty damn good – ya know, for a band that really refuses to grow. And the solos, chaotic as always, actually seem to almost fit into the songs.
“World Painted Blood > Endgame > Death Magnetic”
I haven’t even heard WPB, and already know that this is false.
ya, dude your the total douche-master, right on how’s that for ya……
Suck cocks in space. All of you. Thank you, that is all.
This mix sounds like death magnetic? Wt? Same guy isn’t it? This fucking twat loves to ruin tone because man Slayer never had great tone to begin with but this is just awful.
Does anyone on this site actually like metal?
..I loved all 3 albums from the big 4. To the guy who said playing with dolls was shit: Are you ok?
Anyone else see the “Playing With Dolls” short film? It’s an embarassment. The album sounds awesome, but I know I won’t be needing the deluxe edition
i don’t know what everyone’s getting pissed off about. it’s fucking slayer. what did you expect? should they start playing with a 40 piece orchestra or start writing songs with john zorn or something? yeah, i can’t tell the difference between each song, but oh well. at least it’s better than most modern metal bands who spend more time jacking off with their guitars than bothering to write songs.
This is a definate buy for me, i heard it when it leaked and it sounds really fucking good to me. They seem to have gone back to their old sound like on south of heaven maybe.
This album should be in every metal fan’s collection. This is coming from someone who never liked Slayer before. This will be in the top ten of 2009.
WPB is awesome – totally agree about this being the best Slayer album in years. Thanks for the heads up about the Myspace streaming!
