LOVELORN MAGGOTS

Monday, November 2nd, 2009 at 11:00am by Vince Neilstein

I’m all for heavy bands throwing ballads into the mix from time to time, but this performance of Slipknot playing “Snuff” on Jimmy Kimmel Live… bzzzzt, does not compute! I like the song, but this performance is just extremely weak. Nine dudes in scary tough guy masks playing a pretty love song causes all sorts of cognitive dissonance.

Side note: Kimmel really seems to be waving the heavy flag as of late. Of this, I approve.

What the fuck was up with Big Bird? Although Big Bird probably was the most metal part of the video. Good song but not exactly live material.

sounds like he said “hands in the air mother fuckers” but realized he was gonna be on TV (or they just bleeped it out).

  3. Facebook User says:

I wonder iif the dudes playing the kegs make as much cash as the other guys in the band?

  4. timmah says:

    wtf is this?

  5. builtforsin says:

Heavy or ballad slipknot still blows dudes for kool-aid points.

  6. Will Simmons says:

I might not despise Slipknot as much if they were just a normal 5-piece band. There’s over 9,000 of them and they can’t muster enough creative energy to write one good song.

Jimmy Kimmel’s had Slipknot on the show many times before, as well as other bands like Killswitch Engage

  8. this still sounded a million times better than “psychosocial” which they closed the show with. it was awful. sounded sped up and sloppy.

  9. Dr schwine-hoot says:

Really? Not heavy… Lol, yeah they’re not the heaviest bands on the planet, but they are heavy metal… What’s your def. of heavy metal then?

  10. myke says:

mastodon was better on jimmy fallon. i think he has had better bands on like shadows fall, megadeth and mastodon etc.

Bad choice for live TV. The crowd was super psyched for something heavy and they killed the mood.

  12. jackattack says:

I have to give them credit… they are very dynamic song writers who seem to fit into whatever niche they please… but if they’re gonna play rock ballads, take off the fucking masks.

  13. WowWee! says:

Out of all the songs they choose the softest song they’ve ever made, I know what they were trying to do but damn.

I still don’t think Slipknot are that widely accepted to allow them to experiment with a slower song on national television. It’s just confusing when you look at them. You’d totally expect something heavy.

Saw their show the night before, and this song is awesome in the context of the full show. After 12-13 bombastic Slipknot tunes, it fits in great. But I was pretty put off to see them start with this on Kimmel, it just didnt work. If you didnt see it though, they did play Psychosocial after the commercial.

  15. Sammy says:

To get all technical, isn’t it really a love-lost-goodbye song?

  16. metalguy says:

Apparently this is their big radio hit and a video is coming soon. besides the fact that the masks dont fit, half the band doesnt even move till like 3 min in. Vermillion was a better slow song but they wont play it live anymore. My non-metal GF loves that song and went with me only wanting to hear it live, but they bump it for this song, which should never be played live. Even if it is on the radio, people know all their songs dont sound like this and that its just a one-off soft song. I highly doubt any soft-alt. fans paid specifically to see this song

    Sad.

  18. You Don't Know Me says:

Love how Mick still looks pissed off and wanting to kick someones ass while he’s playing a pretty ballad like this.

  19. Boob says:

i didn;’t hear any of the songs of their new album… i hadn’t realized that they sold out…

  20. Killer Kovarik says:

NOW I UNDERSTAND WHY ALL THE UGLY FAT KIDS AT MY SCHOOL DEFEND THIS BAND!!!! they write amazing powerful music that really gets to me.

    hahaha yea right!
This blows, lets go be pissed off somewhere else.

  21. I was there that night and at the full concert the night before.
After Snuff was sung they played Physchosocial, Dead Memories, Duality and (sic)

  22. Love Slipknot…..but this terrible. I would have my mind blown if they did this in concert and not in a good way

  23. Jimmy says:

They speed up everything too much. Joey needs to calm down. I remember when he toured with Korn, every song was faster.

  24. Bicro says:

    Stop it Slipknot
    You’re doing music wrong
