NERGAL JOINS THE SEBASTIAN BACH CLUB

Thursday, November 5th, 2009 at 2:30pm by Axl Rosenberg

A reader known only as “Fersas” sent us the below clip of a band called Wolverine. Despite their name, which would lead you to believe that they’re a metal band or at least a rock outfit, they in fact play country music.

And, oh yeah, Nergal is doing the vocals.

I really don’t like this music and I think the idea of a Polish country band is kind of ridiculous, but I’d be lying if I said Nergal’s vocals suck. He sounds like a poor man’s Nick Cave part of the time, but I can live with that.

Anyways, this was apparently recorded in 2000. Enjoy.

I guess its a really really slow news day.

  5. Kuranes says:

It’s crazy that he’s a mainstream celebrity in Poland.

  6. brian roach says:

Bizarre, but i’ve read interviews with Nergal, he’s into lots of different kinds of music, and I recall him specifically mentioning that he loved Nick Cave, so I guess this makes some sense? But i’m glad he stuck with his ‘day job’!!

  7. 2na says:

Am I the only one that likes this? This isnt country though.

  8. Arthur von Nagel says:

    I really liked this actually.

  9. I like this too, its…different but good.

  10. Sammy says:

They may be a country band, but that is not a country song.

  11. I says:

Yeah, this is not country. It’s just…….acoustic rock. Almost reminds me of Murder By Death.

  12. Lybrium says:

pretty cool, I don’t know how I feel about Nergal, with his trophy wife and all…what could be effecting lyrics, seem to loose their meaning. Still a fan of behemoth, dug the new album big time.

  13. ThisIsNecessary says:

Not country at all, you asshats. If anything, I’d venture to say this sounds like early Days Of The New or AIC during the ‘Jar Of Flies’ era.

Glad to see I’m not the only one to like this. I’ve always liked Nick Cave, so this is definitely way win with me. Love his accent, though.

Don’t you love how on a website devoted to metal, you can show us a new metal band and go “Yo, this is awesome” and most commentators will hate it, but if you show us some acoustic rock that a dude from a band we like did once, we’ll like it?

Does it ever make you guys think that your website is populated entirely by hipsters, who are attracted by your ironic name only and hate metal because it’s too accessible?

I pretty much agree with the peanut gallery for once. This sound like acoustic Danzig in a bizarro world where Danzig is a Polack. Not really country, not really bad, I dunno if it is good but definitely listenable. I probably won’t seek out more Wolvie songs though.

  16. dude i know metal says:

    I like it….just sayin

  17. oldernads says:

Guys, this is totally crap. Now if you tell me someone gave him some roofies, a quart of rye, a mic and a shitty starter amp, then fine. It’s still crappy. Stop disparaging Danzig and Nick Cave.
