periphery empyreon binary code santo's party house new york cityWe’ve been raving about Sumeriancore upstarts Periphery for months now, and their first-ever U.S. headline tour (since signing with Sumerian, anyway) is finally upon us. The trek will be making just 9 stops, beginning this Sunday, November 8th in Richmond, VA. All dates also feature Mutiny Within and This or the Apocalypse — except a very special New York City show on Thursday, November 12th co-presented by MetalSucks, which will feature two of NYC’s very best metal bands: Empyreon and The Binary Code. Admission is only $8 and it’s an early show (starts at 7pm), so there’s no excuse not to drop by Santo’s Party House to get your metal on before going out on the town (or going home, for you oldies) on your Thursday night.

After the jump, check out the latest video update from Periphery.

  • I’m not racist, but I hate Oceano

Did they make Empyreon’s logo on MS paint?

whoa, great show! that promoter is so lucky!

  • Ravaged_Existence

Sick! I’ve been wanting to see Periphery for a while, missed them at Thrash n Burn, but then again I didn’t want to see Emmure or Despised Icon again (for the 50th time). the Binary Code and Empyreon def have potential, and I won’t go broke watching em.

You guys really like Empyreon’s music? Are you sure it’s not just because they’re from New York and you want to promote local bands? I saw them at the Lit Lounge a few weeks ago, and they were pretty lame…I know everyone’s got they’re own opinion, I’m just surprised that you guys think they’re that good, they don’t seem like the kind of band you guys would promote on this site (recycled riffs, cheesy keyboards, generic vocals, etc…).

    • I Concur

Empyreon sucks. They plagiarize their music. There is absolutely no originality. Their recordings sound like they were done in someone’s basement with a commodore. Why would you guys say they are of the “very best?” I suppose the local NY scene is that terrible.

      • the great escape

Plagiarize who? I’ve never heard any other bands like them.

      • SourDeez

I wouldn’t call their music plagiarism, but they certainly don’t bring anything new to the metal table. It’s just stereotypical metaaaaaaaaaaaal with some cheesy keyboard lines. And I like keyboards, it’s just that theirs aren’t very good. They pulled in one of the biggest crowds I’ve ever seen at the Lit Lounge, and I just wasn’t impressed. Our local scene is pretty fucking good, I wouldn’t say Empyreon is even close to the best representative of what NY metal is all about.

  • Freewill

I agree empyreon sounds like no other bands. They are original and have a lot of potential. I am def going to see the band. Very excited to see the rest of the bands too. Empyreon rocks!

NY metal scene….NJ metal scene…. Kikkapoo metal scene… do we need to put labels on everything?

    • SourDeez

A local scene isn’t a label. It’s just a way of identifying where in the world the music comes from. A label is “Deathcore” for example, which implies a specific sound and some form of pigeonholing. “NY metal scene” just means the band is from NY and plays metal. It doesn’t specify any boundaries besides “metal” and “somewhere in the 5 boroughs”.
