ALMOST AS GOOD AS A BIG FOUR TOUR?

I know that with the postponement of the latest round of Megadeth/Slayer Canadian tour dates it’s tempting to say that the Mustaine-Slayer feud has finally reached critical mass, but I don’t actually believe that; we’ve been hearing rumors that the tour would finally come to America some time next year, and I think this is a case of some people who don’t really like each other realizing there’s more money to be made if they can keep their shit together. Or, put more simply: I actually believe that Tom Araya is sick, and that’s why the dates were postponed.

Which is why I also believe the Blabbermouth-reported rumor that not only is the MegaSlayer tour coming to the States in February, but that it will feature Testament and High on Fire, as well.

No, this is not the Big Four Tour everyone’s been hoping for – but it does feature three legendary thrash acts, all of whom have recently released what people seem to agree are their best albums in years, plus High on Fire, who are awesome in their own right.

Now, we’d heard some other bands (e.g., not High on Fire) were being discussed to support SlayerDeth on this tour – I’m assuming if High on Fire are really doing the stint, those other bands will now have to figure out something else to do this winter. But maybe more support acts are going to be announced?

More to follow…

How many more times should High On Fire be expected to play fourth fiddle to other bands? Matt Pike should be HEADLINING tours.

    • Marc says:

      Indeed!!

      • Yeah seriously. They didn’t get nearly enough respect when I saw them on the Mastoklok tour. Some bullshit.

        • Joe Rull says:

they absolutely should’ve been playing AFTER Converge in my eyes. They were fucking laughable.

          • jackattack says:

Your mom is fucking laughable. Or laughably fucking … me.

          • stu1 says:

They’re not even close in size to Converge, either in record sales or draw.

          • Awful Offal Carnage says:

Yeah, Converge was balls. I listened to one or two songs before seeing them live, and I expected greatness, but all I got was some dude barking like a dog on stage. His vocals were that bad, to the point where when the he was like “Four more songs!”, my friend and I just looked at each other simultaneously and shook our heads.

        • d00shc00gr says:

My ticket to Mastoklok said the show started at 8 and we got there at 7:45 to find Converge finishing their set. I don’t know anybody who even saw High on Fire play in Detroit, and it’s all ticketmaster’s fault!

          • Gary Suarez says:

I went to the Chicago show and caught maybe half of HOF’s set. It was criminal to have them on so early. I fear a similar thing would happen on this “MegaSlayer” tour if they have to go on before Testament.

          • cougar party says:

DUDE! Same SHIT happened to me. I was so excited to see High on Fire and they were fucking done playing by 7:45 when I got there. Total bullshit. High on Fire got totally fucked on that tour. if anything, converge should have opened for them.

          • stu1 says:

COugar Party- Why should a bigger band who’s been around longer be opening?

          • cougar party says:

Stu1. I know converge has been around longer, but it really seemed that there was a lot more people who were High on Fire fans than Converge fans. No one really seemed to know who Converge was.

          • stu1 says:

Cougar Party- Maybe in part to their musical similarity to Mastodon. There isn’t a single place in the world where HoF out draw Converge.

        • Nigel McCloud says:

I agree with Gary, and the amount of disrespect at the Philly show was awful, though it sounded like the people who complained were only there for Dethklok

    • Nate says:

      When they stop sucking.

    • jason says:

HOF is good live as long as Matt Pike doesn’t get so trashed that he can’t hold his guitar, which was the case 2 out of the 3 times I’ve seen them. HOF is a crap shoot ion a live setting.

    • cougar party says:

      No shit. +100

  2. Mark Gavin says:

I would love for Suicide Silence to have nothing to do with this tour.

    • DidgeryDo says:

I disagree. The fans of that band need to be exposed to how awesome Slayer is. Then they
probably won’t like their crappy band anymore.

      • i agree but sadly its not that easy. Ive been to hundreds of metal shows, and deathcore fans will just leave before Slayer. Basically wat im sayin is is that if it doesnt have 100 million breakdowns, their not gonna stick around to watch it. When i saw Suffocation in april, Whitechapel played before them and as soon as they finished all their fans were gone. I heard same thing when Emmure played right before Devildriver, sad but its fuckin true. Lots of deathcore fans have no real attention span and are just cashing in on what is labeled hot at the moment

        • aaron m. says:

yeah, it really blows that you have a lot of kids buying into a trend, but you have to look at the positives. while most of thse people probably ditched after whitechapel, i’m sure that there were at least some who stayed around for suffocation. at the very least, you have to look at it as a good thing that scenewhores are inadvertently supporting good metal.

but, you know, these are fucking kids. kids latch on to whatever’s popular. fucked if i know how whitechapel got popular, but they did. and i can guarantee you that if these kids are still into metal when they hit 25, they’re going to be kicking themselves for missing out on what was sure to be a great experience.

        • Look at it this way. The one’s that stay will be enligtened and the ones that leave
we will be better without. That is a win win sitation. The only downside
is WE have to sit through SS as well lol.

      • Tim-o-tato says:

        Wow, what a tard statement…lol
I’ll admit, SS fans are a little ‘trendy’ in my eyes, but their is nothing wrong with teeny boppers
hating on old dudes with no real talent except for ability to package and sell hatred of Jesus Christ…

Am I right? Or am I right? lol

Either way, both bands rule their respective worlds…

        • tard statement? im sayin it cuz its true. If some straight metal band was opening for Suicide Silence and all that bands fans left before SS came on those deathcore fans would be pissed. Its a contradiction. IM not sayin i dont like them cuz i don enjoy them its just a lot of those fans are closed minded.

        • msv81 says:

“hating on old dudes with no real talent except for ability to package and sell hatred of Jesus Christ…”

Wow, I can only hope you are kidding. Otherwise, you’ve revealed yourself as one of those “teeny boppers” you speak of.

        • Tyler says:

So true. I used to like Slayer. Then I noticed that all their songs talk about how they hate God. Real original seeing how I could name 2 billion bands in Norway wearing make-up saying that same thing. Real gay…

          • OK this is DidgeryDo by the way. Anyhow I was allways turned off
by Slayer’s “I hate God” schtick but to be completely honest
World Painted Blood COMPLETELY turned me around because
of the music itself. The music on that album is so fucking awesome.

Saying that their only skill is “packaging hatred for God” is ignoring
a hell of a lot of musical aptitude. I was the guy saying “Fuck Slayer”
            not long ago…

          • Did you seriously not notice that for a while…?

            Wow..

  3. d00shc00gr says:

I bet a chronic nug that there won’t be a Detroit show. It’ll hit Chicago and Cincinatti or Cleveland, but that’s as close to the Mitten as I predict this tour will come

  4. nickweiser says:

this tour BETTER happen. High on Fire would benefit from this greatly. Megadeth and Slayer know they would make a shit ton of money by doin this tour in the states so theyd be stupid to say no. Testament better be on this fucker also

  5. DeathMasqueRed says:

I really hope this happens. I’m more excited about this tour than the (im)possible Big Four tour. I’ve always preferred Testament and Exodus over Anthrax. I’m guessing I should give High on Fire a chance. I keep hearing their name and how good they are, but never listened to them.

  6. Discipleofthewatch says:

I love Testament! With great passion! (Maybe you all could tell by my name.) And also Slayer. I’ll have to check out this High on Fire.

  7. TXHellbilly says:

    FUCKIN SLAYER!

  8. myke says:

holy mother of god!!!! i hope this isnt rumor. i just hope mustaine doesnt open his mouth im startin to dislike that fella

  9. Ahab says:

I’ll go for HOF and Testament

  10. wtfhax says:

A tour without any scenester bands in sight? woah.

  11. E says:

This is better than a big four tour. I don’t wanna pay $200 for tickets just cause metallica’s on the bill when i’m gonna leave before they get on stage anyways.

    • Yeah Metallica was completely outdone by both Megadeth and Slayer on the most recent releases.
Metallica would be a nostalgia thing only. Out of all those three they seem the least concerned with
      making good music.

I would go see Slayer/Megadeth over Metallica ANY day.

  12. WowWee! says:

If this is the real deal then this is going to be one hell of a tour.

  13. Sylvester says:

HOLY FUCK, this could be the tour of the year!
    This better happen!

  14. Mike Arose says:

One quick question about the canadian carnage tour. Why in the fucking hell of all things metal would suicide silence be on a bill instead of Annihilator or Fuckin Voivod? THEY FUCKING LIVE IN CANADA

  15. Benjamin says:

HEH. This is funny. I was thinking the same thing as alot of the rest of you.

    I’ll go to see Testament.

    I’ll stay for Megadeth.

This means I’ll probably have to sit through Slayer before Megadeth.

Which means by the time Megadeth comes on I’ll be so fucked up I’ll hardly
    remember what happened.

    But Testament is worth it.
