METALSUCKS TO RELEASE THE BINARY CODE’S SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF
Monday, November 9th, 2009 at 5:00pm by MetalSucksOur number one priority here at MetalSucks is to mercilessly rip into bands we think are terrible, even when they don’t necessarily deserve to be teased. But a very close second priority is to promote bands we think are awesome. And sometimes, those bands aren’t signed (yet).
Once such band is The Binary Code. If you’ve read this site for awhile, you know we have a lotta love for New Jersey’s premiere unsigned genre-benders. You also know that sometimes we get ambitious, and decide to, say, do an industry poll to see which albums have been the most popular this century, or have everyone who writes for the site review the new Metallica album on the same day, or actually get a review up when we say we will.
And thus, feeling ambitious about trying to promote an unsigned band we love, we had a crazy idea: let’s do a digital-only release on MetalSucks for Suspension of Disbelief, the new album from The Binary Code. And so, on December 15, we are going to do just that.
Now, let’s be clear: we’re not trying to be a record label, and we have no illusions of getting rich off this release – in fact, it’s entirely possible that this will be the first and last time we try something like this. But The Binary Code are a band we really love and believe in, and we’d heard some rough mixes of the album and really thought that the music was something special. And so we decided to try and help put new music out there in the world for once, instead of just being professional appreciators (or detractors, as is so often the case). We’re in that rare position where we can try to get TBC’s music to the public, and so we’re going to do just that.
So mark December 15 in your calendars. Suspension of Disbelief is a kick-ass album, and we’re thrilled to be involved. We hope you dig it as much as we do.

So how will it be released? WIll you have to pay by Paypal or something?
I’m marking all of the dates inbetween on my calendar, since you guys will accidently leak the album on one of them
+1
don’t let shaun anywhere near it.
assuming jacob bannon has not strategically placed an axe to fall and behead him, that is.
Lulz
Will it be free? What’s the point of paying for a download? If I pay for something, I want something physical to show for it. Even as great of a band they are, I don’t pay for downloads.
Agreed. Download music if you want, I don’t care, but I’m not paying for audio files.
“What’s the point of paying for a download?”
Gee, I don’t know – supporting the band, perhaps? I don’t know, call me crazy, maybe bands would like to be paid something for their art. Maybe it helps pay for the extra bandwidth Metalsucks’ server will be incurring by hosting the download? If this concept proves out, this could help other bands too. Will ten bucks or so for an up-and-coming band really set your allowance back that much?
Kudos to Axl and Vince for this idea.
1. CRAZY!
2. Don’t care.
3. Yes
Oh those are some real deep responses, now I understand your well thought out stance on not supporting artists.
I don’t know for how long you’ve been on this site, but if you read it around three weeks ago, you’d all know that artists doesn’t really get anything out of record sales to speak of, not even when these guys are releasing it.
I can’t even explain how excited I am for this. My band, Warhorse, rehearses at the studio where TBC either recorded this material or where it’s simply being mixed. Either way, I get to hear their new shit through the padded door of the engineering room whilst I wait to get into my studio, leaving me to assume the engineer has been BLASTING the songs while working on them. The new material sounds IMMENSE
Oh, that must REALLY be a tease. Good luck with your band, and thanks for sharing your impression of things to come.
haha it’s a HUGE tease, I was just looking into the Hypno5e, Revocation, and TBC tour that’s coming up then the next day I hear TBC’s new shit in the studio. I’m so ecstatic, this very well might be my favorite album of 2009
you know there is already a doom band called warhorse
And there’s a Garage band named Warhorse, a Psychadelic band, etc. etc. A lot of band names have duplicates. The doom Warhorse is actually right under us in the Myspace results. They are /warhorsedoom, we’re /warhorsethrash
Sounds interesting… is this free, or does it require moneys?
When I first read that I thought you said “monkeys.”
Gay.
I suppose all the traffic on this site indicating a MS preoccupation with label roles and artist distribution options for the new century should have tipped us all off that the next stage in MS’ evolution was imminent.
Totally cool that y’all stepped up to help a band you believe in take their message to a wider audience. Cheers, guys!
I don’t mind paying money, but I wouldn’t pay too much (£5/$8?)
I’m interested to see how TBC’s sound progresses on this new record. Good move, MS guys.
Can Metalsucks also UNrelease music by shitty bands?
!second that.
I’ve been waiting to get songs in some way, shape or form. So this is good news for me
You guys rule by doing this.
I think the best option would be “pay how much you want”. Whoever was initially thinking of buying it for $10 will still pay between $5-$10. And the guy who initially wouldn’t buy it because it’s $10, would probably pay $1-$5. So either way you’re making more money, and the music is spreading out to more people.
I will listen to it.
December 15th – Christmas is coming! Run for the hills!
I commend you guys for coming up with this idea, but I just listened to a few songs on the band’s myspace and I gotta tell you, it sounds like ten thousand other deathcore/technical death bands I’ve heard. Nothing special, it gets a big “meh” from me.
Yeah me 2, heard this same band many times but with different names. If the release is free I’ll download it, but since they mentioned nothing about price I can only imagine it’ll cost moneys, moneys I use for bongs.
I agree.
Then again, bands like The Binary Code, no matter how technically talented they are, just don’t do it for me. I don’t really take interest in this sudden wave of progressive death metal. Well, that, and I was listening to The Ruins of Beverast’s new album for the first time last night. It may very well render this phenomenon of progressive metal totally insignificant, it’s that good.
I only spend money on music I know I’ll be listening to over and over again. Even if I do buy digital, which is very rare for me, I always try to find a physical copy, just as long as the digital files keep me satisfied enough.
If you want some band-approved free download action, see this link

I’m having a difficult time deciding whether to rate this band a 0 or a 1.
winner
I bought a guitar off the guitar player earlier this year. haha.
I’m looking forward to this. The Binary Code is on a sick ass tour, and now they’re promoting their new material from metalsucks, all without a label. They’re from Jersey too. That show they got coming up with Periphery this thursday made me think of Periphery. Why did they sign a deal, to sumerian?!? With their talent range they can easily get on Century Media. Seemed like they were doing fine getting on Thrash and Burn Unsigned, oh well.
Maybe what the Binary Code is doing will pave an example for bands on how to approach marketing their band, diy style.
BTW, the link deathmetaldave posted is to their demo (free)
Technically from the industry stand point when you pay for a music download you are buying a mechanical license for the digital reproduction of the work, this does not sit well with a cd collector like myself but its the way progress has forced the old model of business to adapt.
As for The Binary Code, from what I’ve heard they are techy and interesting but nothing outstanding; I will continue to listen to them till I can solidly say whether or not I enjoy them.
I agree with what you said about The Binary Code.
Yea but they’re unsigned and only have anything out really besides demos. The potential is there I think for them to get better with their music.
start out right and post the album in both mp3 and flac formats please! and host a contest where readers can design the album cover.
While CD cover contests are a great PR tool for bands, it would probably impact The Binary Code in a negative manner, because they have an INCREDIBLE artist doing their designs. If you take a look at their Myspace, their artwork is on the same level as Every Time I Die’s “New Junk Aesthetic”, which as we all know has BADASS artwork. Might be the same artist actually… I don’t know
Woops sorry, I meant similar style, not level of art. And I just checked their Myspace and it’s different from the last time I saw it so my point no longer really stands haha. But still, the current artwork they have IS really good. Most likely better than would be submitted through a design contest
i only have that 2008 demo linked above, which had some pretty bad art (i know, it’s a demo…) glad to hear that future releases will look better. i’m still a sucker for good album art.
The binary codes artwork is stock images, Im at college at the minute so dont have the link but on my home computer I have it bookmarked. Its something like Arsenal Designs or something, hand drawn skulls and resources, google it. The brushing and everything is all in the same pack. Unless this dude designing their stuff IS arsenal designs then hes just using tools available to anyone for free.
The logo they have is angryblue font aswell totally unedited, you can download it from dafont.com
Their artwork does the job but its not custom or anything immense.
Im not the biggest fan of their music, but they arent a bad band. Ill check their new album out no doubt.
the cd..?
sorry, it didnt all show.. i think there guitarist jessie worked for some graphic website that does custom artwork as he has been an artist as a living for a few years. i cant remember his web address. played with the guys in june in pennsylvania and talked about the artwork. how can we buy
Oh fuck yeah, this is really good news! You guys are awesome for doing this, i’ll buy it for sure!
Go Media Arsenal Vector sets….hooray
