OH, SWELL, NOW THESE SHITHEADS ARE REUNITING

Monday, November 9th, 2009 at 12:00pm by Axl Rosenberg

Adema are the latest nu-metal to reunite in hopes of cashing in on barely decade-old nostalgia. They’ll play their first show in over five years at the Whiskey in LA on January 14, which, hey, uninteresting fact, happens to be the anniversary of my bar mitzvah.

Anyways, if you don’t remember this band, well, consider yourself lucky. The most notable thing about them is that their singer, Marky Chavez, is the half-brother of Korn’s Jonathan Davis (or something like that). They were definitely a last-generation nu-metal band – they got big in 2001ish, right around the time the American New Wave was starting its ascent to popularity – but I guess someone needs to be the first support act for the inevitable Korn/Limp Bizkit summer shed tour, right?

Anyways, here’s one of their videos. Don’t even bother watching it – I just thought this post looked too bare with no graphic or non-written content of any kind.

The funniest part about all this is that when Joseph Stormbladder and I interviewed Winds of Plague and Born of Osiris on Summer Slaughter, they both told us that nu-metal was about to make a huge comeback. In the next few months, we’ve seen a bunch of nu-metal bands reunite and try to make good on that prediction.

I’VE BEEN SAYING THIS VERY SAME FUCKING THING FOR YEARS, but for some reason no one listens to me. in fact, i wrote a rather long post about it on a message board that i can’t find, but needless to say that it was sparkling with life and full of wit.

with regards to all of these shitty nu-metal bands reuniting, it hasn’t yet been long enough to become ironic, so no one really cares. at least, in theory, no one SHOULD care. retarded hipsters are still stuck in the tail end of the eighties and are only now coming around to re-embrace nirvana, so technically speaking, we shouldn’t see an actual nu-metal revival for at least a couple of years. maybe 5 at most.

so prepare yourself for articles in spin & rolling stone talking about how “revolutionary” korn were back in 1994.

      • Anthony says:

People still do talk about how revolutionary they were back in ‘94. Contrary to popular belief, and by popular belief I mean what Axl and Vince have led you idiots to believe, Korn never broke up or really faded away. All of their albums have gone Gold and they always keep touring and playing shows.

It’s been brewing for about a year. You see it in the metalcore/deathcore bands, a lot of which are going more “nu metal” already.

      • Hell this has been on the cards for the best part of a year, here in the UK there was big focus on nu-metal at download and if the forums are to be believed an even bigger focus for next years event! Thank fuck for a new Anaal Nathrakh tour in Feb, and the fact that my girlfriend now has to go with me as she’s already seen both Benediction and Mistress and needs to round out the Mike Hunt trinity :op

I used to fucking love this band, then I hit puberty…

  3. Say, didn’t Marky Chavez get into a fist fight with Zakk Wylde on Ozzfest back in 2001? Or is my memory just scrambled?

    • World_Painted_Hurtt says:

Nah dude it was with Kirk Weindstein From Down, i guess he was on Down’s tour bus acting a fuckin fool and Kirk was having none of it. I guess Phil and pepper were ready to kick that guys ass as well.

No Zakk Just talks shit about starting fights with people.

  4. I’d heard this song before back in middle school, but I had no idea that it was by these clowns. As far as listening to shitty post-grunge-nu-metal, Trapt is far more successful at drumming up nostalgia, although that’s not saying much. Then again, it was middle school, I don’t know why you’d want to drum up nostalgia of those years anyway.

I thought they were the ones that did the song that went “come my lady, come come my lady. you’re my butterfly, sugar baby”

When I went to Vegas over Halloween weekend, Spineshank happened to be playing the Cheyenne Saloon so my friend and I decided to go for nostalgia’s sake. To be completely honest, I was sort of excited to see the band perform again since I was a relatively big fan of them back in the 90s. After about 2 songs into the set, however, I immediately realized how bad they are! First off, they weren’t even the headliner (it was some other, local nu-metal band who I don’t think ever released a record)! They sounded awful and I laughed every time the singer said, “What are you people, tired or something? I know it’s late but I want to see all you fuckers rip this place apart!” — sad thing was, the crowd consisted of maybe 8 people who just stood there hahahahaa.

I’ve mentioned before that I do enjoy some nu-metal, but even with that said, some things were meant to stay dead (see: Spineshank, Limp Bizkit, Adema, etc.). There’s a reason Slipknot is still around and relevant, despite all their haters; similarly, there’s a reason why most of the other nu-metal bands died in the first place.

Nutshell cover by these guys. Just awful.

  8. groverXIII says:

I hated Adema back when they came out. That hasn’t changed.

Still, it seems like the nu-metal folks are jumping the gun… it usually takes 20 years for something to become cool again. In fact, according to my watch, it’s about time for grunge again. I better find some flannel shirts and Doc Martens.

At least 50% of the population is retarded. Hence, nu-metal “comeback”. Stupid will never go away. Let’s just pretend it isn’t there and move about our daily lives.

  10. myke says:
