WHY HAVEN’T YOU DOWNLOADED CELESTE’S MISANTHROPE(S) YET?

Thursday, November 12th, 2009 at 11:30am by Axl Rosenberg

mislpBack in August, I wrote about Misanthrope(s), the latest offering from France’s Celeste; three months later, I’m even more in love with this album. And while I could waste your time with superlatives – epic, raw, beautiful, etc. – there’s no reason to, because THE ALBUM IS AVAILABLE AS A FREE, LEGAL DOWNLOAD and so there’s absolutely no reason for you not to give it a listen.

I can’t say enough nice things about this album, and it will very likely find its way onto my year-end list next month. Please please please please please do yourself a favor and check it out.

Also worth mentioning: if you dig after you’ve downloaded it, the art work that comes with the physical copy is beautiful, and totally worth the cost. Just sayin’.

    • halloway says:

yeah about 20 people in the library here heard the first 2 seconds kuz i forgot to mute my volume.

thanks for the good music …and the awkward experience.

  • Peter says:

I downloaded this when you first posted about it. Then I kept putting off listening to it, either for lack of time, or in favour of something else. Finally heard it about a week ago. Holy shit. Awesome stuff. One of the best albums of the year, without a doubt.

  • Spike says:

    Ah this albums fucking awesome

  • JT says:

  • Marc says:

  • Dom says:

Merci ! Celeste is awsome …and i understand the lyrics too ….those french bastards are getting too good !
    French Metal Invasion !

  • Reznik says:

I didn’t really like this band. I like alcest and amesoeurs better

    • loose nut says:

what the fuck are you comparing celeste to alcest/amesoeurs for? because they’re french? celeste is better than disney world paris. see what i did there?

  • groverXIII says:

That got a big fat “meh” from me. I didn’t especially like the vocals, the pace, or the fact that the first four songs all sounded alike. There’s going to be a French band on my top 10 list, but it’s going to be Gorod, not these guys. (Gorod is currently sitting at number one, to my surprise, surpassing even the almighty Clutch.)

    • Kevin says:

I really don’t understand how this is just a “meh” to you. It’s mid-paced blackish hardcore, whats not to like?
I have been listening to this album since June but today I re listened to it fucking great.

    • Superhans says:

just the first 4? if anyone is considering downloading this album just listen to the first track and you’ve pretty much listened to the whole thing

  • Chris says:

Ok, sounds very fucking good, however just like Rammstein and Dir EN GRey, if these bands sung in english theyd be fucking titans.

    • Dom says:

tell me that you really pay attention to the fact that it’s in french ….. i’m freanch speaking and honestly if it wasn’t for the song titles ….i probably didn’t notice the first time i heard it !

  • aaron m. says:

i downloaded this record when i first heard about it. and i’m pretty sure i downloaded their other one too.

  • Nick from hell says:

I am usually turned off by french vocals (I’m french, myself) but this band is amazing. Great recommendation!

  • Kye says:

    Love the album

I would like to point out that, if I recall correctly, the bitrate of the free version wasn’t exactly the highest, but whatever, just buy it, it’s totally worth it.

  • SomeKid says:

Thanks, I always appreciate free (legal) music.

  • James says:

OK I downloaded it. It’s pretty much awesome, I’ve never listened to french metal before…

    I hope you’re happy.

    • Lybrium says:

You’ve never listened to french metal?!?!?!?!?!? DUDE!!! Then you HAVE to check these bands out:

      1. Gojira
      2. Scarve
      3. Hacride
      4. Dagoba
      5. Hypno5e
      …..c’mon folks help me out!

  • SolaceInNothing says:

I downloaded this a while ago. It was good, i def dig the post core black metal thing they got going on, but i too felt that the songs bled into each other a little too much. Idk maybe ill give them another listen…

  • Mitchell says:

I’m intrigued enough to give it a download

  • TPZ says:

if you like it even slightly get Nihiliste(s) on the same page too – even more devastating

  • loose nut says:

while you’re at it, download/listen to mihai edrisch. celeste’s singer and some other members where in it before. you can get their stuff legally on their homepage (google it, i’m lazy).

  • Hororo says:

From what I’ve heard from a guy who toured with them, they’ve already recorded a new album so expect something in 2010.

  • aznmetalchick says:

nice! sound kinda like Tombs, tho not as intense.

  • Lybrium says:

I haven’t listened to the album through and through yet, but I like it so far, very raw.

  • incensestick says:

I’ve Bought both nihiliste(s) and misanthrope(s) from Denovali after several intense listenings… Misanthrope(s), an absoulte masterpiece, filled with suffering and depressive atmospheres… In my 2009 top five list!
As the reviewer says,,,”do yourself a favor ” and give a listen to Celeste…and if you’re a collector you should buy their cds/lps (extremely limited editions…but I assume they’ll reprint Celeste’s stuff several times…)
