Nuno has a history of having no artistic standards. I’ll assume he was legitimately into the poppy funk metal that was Extreme. He’s one of the late-eighties metal shredders. I bought his solo album (“Schizophonic”) when it came out, expecting it to be a bunch of shredding like his contribution to the “Guitars That Rule The World” CD. But no, it was like C-grade grunge. It sucked balls.

Can we seriously get over the “outrage” of a “metal” guy playing with a pop artist? Is this really a big deal? Christ, Slash played on a Carole King live album back in ’93 or something, and it didn’t turn him into a shitty musician all of a sudden.

People gotta make their $, and let’s face it, Extreme is not exactly raking in the huge dollars on their reunion tours these days. Nuno is a phenomenal musician, and I’m sure he won’t get any chance to rip into a “Rest in Peace”-esque solo on this tour, but then again, he just might. A lot of larger pop artists — Madonna, Janet Jackson — have incredible lead guitar players that are often given a chance to shine while the main artist is changing wardrobes or set pieces. I see no problem with this, and I think it’s really, really petty for “true metalheads” to act outraged that a guy who’s best known for writing a POP BALLAD, is playing on a pop artist’s tour. Who… the fuck… cares?

If Kirk Hammett wanted to take some down time and tour with Christina Aguilera, I’d say, good for him. If Dave Mustaine (not that that egomaniacal fuck would ever do something where he wasn’t the center of attention, but still) wanted to make a few bones touring with Shakira, good for him. Stop acting like a 13-year-old because your washed-up guitar hero is going to play with Rihanna.
