NOT EXACTLY A CHURCH BURNING, IS IT?

Mayhem have perhaps one of the longest and most sordid histories in all of metal. Motley Crue may have shoved half a phone up some poor girl’s vagina and made her call her mother (at least according to The Dirt) and Marilyn Manson may have been blamed by scheming politicians for Columbine, but members of Mayhem have actually killed themselves and/or one another. Most metal bands project some kind of “scary” image, but Mayhem are one of the few bands that are actually scary.

Everyone gets older, though, and the members of Mayhem are no different. No longer the bright-eyed, bushy tailed kids who recorded De Mysteriis Dom Sathana, the members of Mayhem have now been reduced to rebelling by destroying hotel rooms the way every other band does.

Yes, it seems that several members of Mayhem have been arrested for causing thousands of dollars in property damage to a hotel room in Holland. These members will apparently not be released… at least until they’ve covered the costs of the damage.

I am most curious to see how the band’s tr00 kvltist fans will react. Hero worship based around the band’s past homicidal/suicidal tendencies is ridiculous, but at least the band was able to pass those acts off as having some kind of pseudo-philosophical meaning. There’s absolutely no “deeper message” to be had in destroying a hotel room, other than “We were fucked up and behaved like spoiled brat rock stars.”

No word on whether or not photos of the incident will wind up on the cover of a future Mayhem bootleg.

This band are a parody, of what I’m not even sure – it was bad enough on the Headbanger’s Journey film when Porkloinbutcher tried to be a macho man and came off looking like Yngwie Malmsteen’s drunken sister.

      Right?

To be fair, though, watching him rant like an alcoholic has-been next to his silent bandmate was basically the entertainment highlight of that movie.
Well, that and Gaahl calmly sipping his wine and, after much consideration, replying to an interview question by saying, simply, “Satan”.

However, they did provide the biggest LOL moment of that documentary. When discussing the origin of the devil horns, there’s a montage of a bunch of people throwing up the horns. Then the final shot is off Necrobutcher giving Sam Dunn the finger, which perfectly compliments his “We have a message! Fuck you!” ramblings.

lol that interview was mad funny…

Amazingly immature. Yet….I don’t seem to disapprove.

  • Zoker

Come on… even big shiny stars like Green Day do this kind of things…

  • SlickerDrip

Yeah, Mayhem, WE RULE! We’re the best fuckin’ metal band *burp*

  • SHOCKTROOP

sorry Axl, but destroying a hotel room is a rock and roll right of passage and will forever be cool.

    • Erek

      Rite of passage.

You can thank me for correcting that later.

Is it not also a sacred right?

        Not according to Holland!

        • metalguy

          a sacred reich?! what?

That’s “sacred right.” Your ears stopped up or something?

“No word on whether or not photos of the incident will wind up on the cover of a future Mayhem bootleg.”

    That shit is funny.

  • Ziltoid

Haha, Mayhem. I’ve always found them to be lulzy, even if I like some of their music. This just shows that they’re tr00 assholes.

  • rachel

I wrote a research paper on Mayhem for a teacher who talked about how evil Marilyn Manson was. Needless to say, after she read my paper, I never heard her bring him up again.

  • DC

    Electric Mayhem Band >(scarier)> Mayhem

  • TJ

so they broke a hotel room So what? And far a s I know it was their crew members who did it not the musicians. at least Necro and Attila were cleared. I don’t know about Hellhammer and the other two guitarists. but i think at least Hellhammer didn’t participate, I don’t the other two lol
