BORIS’ LATEST JAPANESE HEAVY ROCK HITS 7″ IS NEITHER “HEAVY” NOR “ROCK”

Friday, November 20th, 2009 at 10:00am by Gary Suarez

This might be the least metal thing Boris has ever done. It sounds more like a Sigur Ros record! Still, this got me thinking perhaps I should have picked Wata over Atsuo in Reign In Blonde’s Hottest Chicks In Metal bracket.

If you’re still interested – and I’ll understand if you’re not - Japanese Heavy Rock Hits Vol. 3 releases in vinyl and digital formats on Tuesday November 24 via Southern Lord.

    Boring.

  2. m00tzman says:

Looking forward to this. I’ve always wanted more songs with Wata on vox.

  3. SP420 says:

I could have told you this band is horrible.

oh wow. a song by boris that i actually like. i just might have to check this out.

  5. Mike Riddick says:

Sounds like something off of the 4AD label like Blonde Redhead or older His Name is Alive. This fits with indie shoegazer music more than metal…

  6. rachel says:

Who cares about Behemoth when you’ve got this stuff?! Most fucking metal thing I have heard all day. (I am totally kidding)

  7. Tonberry says:

I actually like this, but I’m a huge fucking weeaboo, so take it with a grain of salt. Vocally, she sounds a bit like a more subdued version of Shiina Ringo. I think Mike nailed it with the Blonde Redhead comparison, too.

  8. Dirtman73 says:

I can respect Boris for wanting to experiment a little bit every once in a while, but they seriously need to concentrate more on the heavy shit these days. This is decent, but it ain’t the Boris I know and love…

That said, the Boris haters can suck a donkey cock and continue listening to their tepid 3 Inches of Blah albums.

  9. TPZ says:

“It sounds more like a Sigur Ros record!” -> never heard Rainbow? or worst – Flood which is the most quiet post rock album ever (and Boris made it)

  10. Anticosmic says:

People hating on this bands softer songs like this need to look into their discography. they’ve never been a band to stick to 1 specific subgnre, they’ve jumped around like a rabbit on crack between subgenres. If you don’t like this stuff, i’m sure you’ll get some heavier stuff soon enough

I don’t like this stuff, but not because it isn’t heavy. I don’t like it simply because it is boring. I like plenty the Sigur Ros realm, but definitely wasn’t feeling the music in that clip.
