ROADRUNNER’S NEXT BIG SIGN?

MetalSucks Maniac “Thrashbuster” e-mailed us to say that Canada’s Baptized in Blood announced at a show this past weekend that they are signing to Roadrunner. Assuming that this is true, an official announcement is supposed to come December 6.

I have no confirmation on this from the band or the label, so take it as a rumor for now. I will say that although this band doesn’t really do much for me, if they are signing to RR, it should do something to quell recent concerns that the label is no longer working with metal bands.

Check out Baptized in Blood and weigh in with your thoughts below.

  1. aaron m. says:

christ. why is every band from ontario douche incarnate?

    • Deaner says:

What other bands do you know from Ontario?

      • John says:

Cursed is from Ontario. And they are not douche incarnate. However, every local band I’ve played with from that area are in fact douche incarnate

        • John says:

I should say every METAL local band from that area.

        • aaron m. says:

oh man, i totally forgot about cursed. yeah, they’re righteous, but they’re not putting out records anymore. oh, and fucked up is rad.

you know, come to think of it, there are a lot of bands from ontario who aren’t total douchelords.

          there i go again…judging…

      • aaron m. says:

there’s a whole bunch of bands from here who are douche incarnate. did you want me to write a list? i can do that, you know… i got my ph.d in list making.

        • Killer_ says:

Yea write a list because I don’t know who the hell you’re talking about. The End and Starring Janet Leigh are awesome.

          • aaron m. says:

well, the end broke up, but starring janet leigh is definitely a band i can’t be bothered to care about. if i wanted to listen to tuneless breakdowncore, i’ll throw on some ion dissonance. but who knows? maybe they’re alright dudes.

the fully down could eat a bag of dicks if they were still around. silverstein can get fucked. rides again are douchelords. arise and ruin bore me and threat signal suck shit through a straw. oh, and i almost forgot that headstrong and project wyze were from ontario. don’t remember them? lucky you. and kittie. how could i forget that kittie was from ontario? ontario also has to take the blame for alexisonfire and city and colour. same with billy tallent. if you don’t listen to christian rock, you probably don’t know who thousand foot krutch is, but hey, they’re from here too.

and i could go on. why, i haven’t even gotten to toronto and all of the projects surrounding death from above 1979, but if i did that, we’d be here all day.

though, perhaps i was being too judgmental earlier. not every band from onterio oozes douche. perhaps it’s simply because there are a lot of douchebags who live in ontario who happen to make music. or perhaps they’re nice people who happen to make douchey music. in fact, i’m sure the people in most of those bands i’ve mentioned are “righteous”. maybe the only real douche here is me. god knows i’m a real cunt.

          • Deaner says:

Okay, you have some good points there… Now here’s a counter-list:

Death From Above 1979 do seem like douches, but they make me dance, so I could care less about their mustaches. And they’re gone now, so you don’t have to worry about them anymore.

Crystal Castles – the drummer played with Tool in Toronto

Holy Fuck! – with a name like that, they can’t be douches….. right?

Quest For Fire – the opposite of douches. http://www.metalsucks.net/2009/06/02/tee-pee-tuesday-the-swirly-psychedelic-stylings-of-quest-for-fire/

          • aaron m. says:

            @ deaner

did you seriously put crystal castles in your list of bands from ontario who aren’t douches? because they are the epitome of douche. they are douche extreme. they have douche distilled to a fine essence. i don’t really care that their drummer played with tool in toronto. tool are douches too. the only good thing i can say about them at this time are that the kids are like, soooooo over them.

yes, it is true that dfa broke up (rip), but left in their wake are the even douchier mstrkrft. dfa is a special case though. they had douche, but they knew how to use it.

holy fuck might not be douches themselves, but they attract that crowd. they are – in the common vernacular – “douche magnets”.

quest for fire are alright, but i would like to point out that they are the benefactors of having one of the former members of cursed.

but i mean, if you’re gonna start talking about people associated with the toronto scene, the douche far outweighs the…not-douche. the broken social scene alone is like, a family tree of douche, having ties to metric, feist, stars, and about a million other douche bands. it wouldn’t really bother me so much, except for the fact that it’s the douchiest of the douche who get all the press & critical acclaim. like aids wolf.

  2. Stretch Arm Strong trying to play some metal. Keep it posi.

    • Chris Berseth says:

I totally agree — this sounds like a mash-up of SAS and LOG. Luckily, I like both of those bands and I’m actually kinda diggin these guys also.

  3. builtforsin says:

This should get them a spot on Van’s Warped Tour for shizzle!

  4. Jo says:

well they had a good run as metal label.. it’s sad really. but all good times must come to end someday. just wish it wasn’t so soon

  5. listened to about a minute before i realised the mistake i had made pausing Aeon to listen
i think i’ll pass on this one

  6. Boob says:

their “logo to gayness ratio” is off…. the logo led me to believe it would at least be shitty deathcore, instead of… whatever they are. They need a less mean logo for this less mean music….

  7. sounds like between the gayness and me

  8. The M_F Beard says:

This Metal Sucks thing is becoming a self fulfilling prophecy.

  9. Master Chah says:

    lolololol. That was awful

  10. Marty Jannetty says:

    Generic Mediocrity Cometh!!!!

  11. rupert says:

nothing says heavy metal like 5 fifteen-year olds covered in blood smiling

    • Justin says:

Your a tard bro. Their all around like 26. Fucking sweet dudes! I have been to probably like 20 shows. Good friends with the band. If you have ever been to a baptized show, you never leave dissappointed. One of the few bands that actually take the time to thank all the fans and meet and greet. Dont talk about shit you know nothing about.

  12. earthsherm says:

if metal could be pop this is what it would sound like, terrible

  13. Colin says:

We’re hardcore and angry, but we’re also so silly! Doesn’t that make you want to like us? Have some mediocre generic music too!

  14. Somebodythatmatters says:

These guys are nothing special and are actually not worth the spit on the bottom of my shoe

  15. pokesmot says:

Baptized in blood is awesome.I saw them about 4 summers ago when I drove all they way from MA to Canada to see Quo Vadis.sick show sick band hope all works out well for them

  16. Sifton says:

BAPTIZED IN BLOOD is one of the hardest working bands in Canada, they have been pushing and pushing themselves for the last 5 years on their own and earning them a huge dedicated following. Their live show is impecable, and their self released album ‘gutterbound’ is one of the best releases of 2009.. fact.

Not only that, but they are some of the best dudes I’ve ever met.. they shred your face off on the stage, and then party with you afterwards.

Take a listen to all the tracks, and not just a few seconds of them basing your opinion, or pickup/download the record and tell me that im wrong.. you can’t.

    Long live BIB.
    Hope this news is true

  17. BiBMorph13 says:

I have honestly seen these guys over a dozen times, every show they improve with fierceness and energy. The leave so much out on the line that by the end of their set, they can barely stand. Never have I experienced such a band that has such a large following of fans, that literally know every single word to every song. How could you not love something that is party metal? To doubt these guys, or to underestimate them would be a serious mistake, believe me. Baptized in Blood is coming in full force, brace yourselfs, you’re about to get “partied”.

  18. Paula says:

Quit taking yourselves and your music so serious.. so maybe you dont like the band, but thousands do..and with good reason. The band is amazing, and the tunes are metal yet fun.. blending old school with new school to create something that doesnt sound like everything else coming out. Best band in canada, and huge news if this true!

  19. Cameron says:

Check this band out and let me know what you think about this Ontario based Metal Band…I play drums in TERRORHORSE, looking for some feedback!

    Cheers!

  20. Pete says:

15 year old boys? I think the singer is closer to 30 than 15. in fact, all of the guys are. The band to me is like a more fun version of Municipal Waste – they party hard on stage and hard off stage. I honestly think this is one of the most fun metal releases of 2009. every track offers something different.
    i suggest giving another listen

  21. Serve43 says:

what’s with the hate towards ontario? some of my favorite bands hail form there… today i caught the plague, straight reads the line, protest the hero and of course baptized in blood to name a few. had the chance to share the stage with these guys in halifax and hang out after….their live show was insanely heavy and their musicianship is exceptional. you have to appreciate baptized in blood for what they are: an old-school, balls-to -the-wall, straight-up metal band.

  22. Cameron says:

I’m friends with these guys, hell I got drunk with a couple of them last night… There is no doubt in my mind that the constructive criticism is only a compliment in disguise. Baptized In Blood puts on a great show every time i’ve shared the stage or attended one of their shows.

  23. Ryan says:

I love baptized in bloooooooooood. You’re all just haters lol, check these guys out live and try to say they suck. fuckin badass.

  24. Facebook User says:

I think Paula said it best, Baptized has found a perfect blend of new school and old school. Josh and Nick literally shred back and forth the entire show, leaving nothing behind. Alex, attacks the drums with such fierceness you’d think his drumsticks would give out on every connection. Shaggs, is probably the most entertaining bass player to watch, he becomes the music. Last but not least, Johl, one of the best frontman ive had the honor of partying with, starts a majority of sets with a stage dive, and is usually shit faced before the end of the show. I guess what Im trying to say is, these guys are awesome dudes, who embrace their fans and know its because of them they are making it. I think Roadrunner should be honored to sign Baptized.

  25. jason longo says:

Baptized in Blood Rules they are one of the hardest working bands i know and Thats a Fact! plus they are sweet dudes who love to party! also they tour their asses off and put everything into the band! so its sweet that there from london ontario ! they are Tite live too ye! i play drums in london band The Scenario we are Buds with bib ye. they diserve this for sure and the record is omazzzzing!!! check it out !! Gutterbound !!

lots of sweet bands in ontrario! Strings of Ares , Jettison comitment , Del asher , Heaven Ablaze , Terrorhorse , Lead the Dead ! , check em out dudes !!! PARTY!!!!

  26. Lila Desjardine says:

i certainly hope that the news is true, its about time that BIB got something that they deserved. I absolutely love BIB…not only are they all amazingly talented artists but all the dudes in BIB are kick ass people.

  27. Suggy says:

BIB definately deserves it. Hope the rumour is true. Amazing band

  28. afanofgoodmusic says:

well, you can certainly tell when friends of the band hit the board and started posting!!! i’m not a fan of baptized in blood at all… i find the music very boring. its the same old to me. i prefer music that really show’s musicianship and doesn’t seem like people doing everything to please the scene kids.
however, i am not the only one with an opinion. they are obviously where they are because somebody likes them… in that case, best of luck!

    • Blamo says:

Musicianship? Dude.. have you even heard or seen this band?? Listen to tracks like Down and Out, Blue Oyster, or Next Stop Hollywood and tell me that they dont showcase musicianship?? these guys are fucking phenominal. And if by friends, you mean dedicated fans.. ive never met these dudes in my life, but i’ve seen them 6 times and everytime is mind blowing.

they are doing what they do for themselves, and not for everyone else, especially not for the ’scene kids’ who dont even pay attention to them. every song is different and has some extra flavour to it

what i love the most about them is that the bring metal to the table, but add song structure, melody, and hooks.. making for good songs. but then again, i listen to everything and not JUST metal..

  29. Richard LeBlanc says:

BIB slays. Sorry that your Dungeons and Dragons game got interupted with something not Grim and Evil enough for you.

Whatever BIB is doing is obviously working. Good observations, They AREN’T death metal. They aren’t DARK sounding, and they arent involved in the “my band is heavier than yours pissing contest”

Thats probably why they stand out enough to sell out every venue they play, sell more merch than ANYBODY and get noticed and signed by a huge label.

  30. Matt says:

these guys are killer, there songs are kick ass and they put on an amazing live show, cant wait for the next album

  31. Matt says:

anyone who thinks this band is bad is retarded

#1 They arent “15 year olds covered in blood” they are more like 25 year olds dudes, and thats not random blood, its your moms cherry blood they stored after they DADV’d ur mom before she met ur dad
#2 Sweet riffs and talented muscians
#3 and http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LagpWJ0c5-w just speaks for itself

  32. dubya says:

BIB is just one of many kick ass bands from South-Western Ontario, Canada…prolly the best hehe….only if you are a skunk-fucking redneck, would you have the mental capacity to say they suck…if you think they suck, than maybe the shrill screams of you demonstrating the shocker on your sister would be of more relevance to you…

  33. dev says:

has anyone hating on ‘metal’ ever considered the fact that the genre has evolved, progressed and developed since its beginning. just as we have as human beings. metal has come a long way, and continues to venture into new avenues of sounds and inspirations. no, its not the same as it once was, but thats the beauty of it. thats the beauty of creativity and what’s left of originality. hearing something a little different than what weve heard before…we shouldnt want to hear the same shit over and over again, just to label it as one genre of music..just because every metal album doesnt sound like slayer,( or whatever ‘metal’ band you dumb fucks actually consider to be metal) doesnt mean it has to be shunned and considered garbage…are you people deaf? it’s 2000 and fuckin’ 9, live in the now. things change, for the better. it’s the closed-minded idiots who listen to two seconds of a song and are convinced that it sucks that make music shitty. baptized is fuckin amazing and beyond talented and with signing to road runner they have proved they have what it takes. metal for life. get shitty fuckers!

  34. kingjapan says:

ATTN: afanofgoodmusic ; Monstrous tapping harmonies, face melting solos, and more guttbusting riffs than you can shake a stick at is the definition of musicianship. Next time please consult a dictionary before posting.

  35. DAKINS says:

All you guys shit taking BIB wouldn’t know good music if it kicked you in the ass, which incidentally is exactly what these guys do every single show. They are awesome guys who will shred your face off then drink their own faces off afterwards.

  36. Bryan Lowes says:

    Aaron,
no ones feelings are hurt, apparently it’s wrong for a bands fans to defend what they believe in?who knew.

Where is your credability? The fact that you are basing a band on their myspace? Cmon now dude. Why should they get used it? They aren’t douchebags.. Nor sounds like douchebags, Or come across as douchebags, unlike yourself.

Bands is super talented, great tunes, fantastic show, and awsome attitudes.
    Sorry they aren’t pig destroyer

  37. Bryan Lowes says:

Come on let’s get Shitty, means come on let’s get drunk and fucking party.. Not come on, let’s be a douchebag

  38. Ticer says:

So here it is, When the fuck did partyin your ass off, smashin hotel rooms and taking chances and fucking regret become so bad…Im sorry for being the honest fuckin guy and saying that the music industry today is mostly made up of fucking pussies..Here we have a metal band from Southern Ontario that fuckin finally started reminding people from that area, what metal really means, and we bash it? Take ureself over to a webpage on nickelback and tell them how much you love em you bunch of douchers…
    Baptized in blood Rules

  42. Kyle says:

Baptized in Blood is an amazing band!!! Fuck anyone who says otherwise!! LET’S GET SHITTY!!!!!!!!!

  43. Sara says:

I was at the show where they announced being signed to roadrunner, and their performance was great. I had heard of the band, as well as many other “smaller” unsigned bands, and could tell right away that these guys had something different, so I’m not the least bit surprised. Baptized in Blood gives a great studio as well as live performance, soo, way to go guys, keep repping London :)

  44. Sara says:

…Id also like to say that myself and a couple of buddies took the time to meet the guys after the show and I dont think I’ve ever met a nicer group of people.

    lets get shitty. ;)

  45. Like their tunes or not you can’t deny that they’ve busted their plums to get to where they are. Definitely done the London, Ontario metal scene proud.
