I really dug their CD Welcome, and still listen to select songs from time to time. I don’t see this move odd at all — Tony Victory always wanted to be the *big dog major*.

I actually saw Taproot a few months ago at Taste of Madison (and outdoor food/music festival in Madison, WI). I’m only familiar with a few singles (poem and birthday) but they put on a pretty good show and still seem to be enthusiastic for what they’re doing. That said, they closed with Poem, directly following a much heavier song, and the singer sounded like he’d completely spent his voice. He sounded good the whole set, and then choked on their biggest hit.

And that’s a damn shame – the band played great and the sound was phenomenal, especially for a one-off outdoor show.

Let me get this straight…you want a record label to better themselves by dropping bands that probably sell a decent amount of records to a mainstreamish audience and giving greater support to bands that are clearly more talented, but also decidedly less popular and more ‘niche’?

It doesn’t take a business degree to spot the hole here.

And also, to preempt, no, I am not the ‘hole in this situation.

The only metal band in Ann Arbor that I can think of is Incisor. Last I remembered there were a few deathcore bands around as well but they were shitty (as is 98% of deathcore bands)

I do know for a fact that there is a ska scene here. Some well known ska bands come through here and I know quite a number of people that played in various ska bands.

ive never heard a complaint from one of the good metal bands on victory. emmure, carnifex, a hero a fake, otep (although they havent had enough time yet) BTBAM, darkest hour, the autumn offering, bury your dead etc. they have some truely insane talent up in there but the other half of the label just brings them down big time. if they dropped all there shitty a day to remember and aiden typical generic bullshit theyd be set

Poem from the Gift album (?) is still a very catchy tune. As for Victory these days, I believe it all comes down to signing bands that will sell X amounts of copies. Otep was a strange signing, but their new album seems to be selling well.

The label wanted a band they could make money off of. Sometimes its a good thing in the long run because they can then use that income to sign more lesser known bands that are a higher risk. Look at all the shit Roadrunner signs.
