LET THE RAGING “BEST OF” E-FISTFIGHTS CONTINUE!

Tuesday, November 24th, 2009 at 4:26pm by

guys fightingRound about this time of year we start to see those clusterfucks known as year-end lists appear in our favorite metal publications. This morning Axl wrote about Noisecreep’s Top Ten Albums 0f 2009 list, and this afternoon Noisecreep took it one step further by publishing their own “Best Songs of the 2000s” list. And look at that — it’s ranked! Meaning you can all get really hot and bothered about why Tool is ranked higher than Mastodon! A fruitful argument if ever there was one. </saracasm>

Choosing a list of the best songs from an entire decade is a Sisyphean task if ever there was one. What are there, thousands, hundreds of thousands of metal songs released in a decade? But Noisecreep’s list wins points for diversity — Converge right next to Pig Destroyer right next to Slipknot (for example). And hey, here we are talking about the list… so Noisecreep must’ve done something right.

Check out the list then weigh in with your thoughts below.

In terms of the Noisecreep rankings, any list that has Tool, Pantera, Slipknot, and Pig Destroyer in the #1 to #4 slots is good by me!

Tool FTW always. And the haters can kiss my ass, Pantera is one of the best metal bands ever, are both Slipknot and Pig Destroyer. Great to see Opeth on the list as well, though not sure I would have picked a song off of “Damnation” (even though I really enjoy that album).

      • Anthony

Just taking a stab here, but I think that’s the tab to the intro for “Left Behind” by Slipknot

        • Seth

          Actually its cowboys from hell

          • Leprosy

Seth is the winner. i owe you a cookie good sir

You have made me angry today Vince for carelessly alerting me to the existence of such as shitty list of songs. Part of me wants to rise above it and recognize the pointlessness of getting angry over a simple ‘best of’ list since they all of these lists have their flaws. But the other part of me feels that something’s wrong in the world of metal if Lacuna Coil, Every Time I Die, and Slipknot can even be mentioned in the same breath as a word best. They’re not even best at being worst. There are worse bands than them, but more importantly, many better bands with better songs than this shit. Worst of all, I liked Noisecreep’s best album of the year list that was posted earlier this day, but now they have lost all, yes all, of their credibility with me. Way to fuck that one up Carlos Ramirez you ignorant fuck.

  • Leprosy

    saracasm????? What’s that vince?

  • Zoker

What an awful joke… does it really need to be discussed?

  • rachel

Seeing Opeth on any list is a good thing. Altough, is Windowpane their best song, I really doubt it. I love that song, but deciding the best Opeth song is a pretty strong gamble, and one that will be disputed over forever.

    • Biff Tannen

Another good and long discussion could arise on the subject: “What is Opeth’s most boring song?”

That would keep me up all fucking night.

    Three words. What. The. Fuck.

Does Noisecreep think they’re gonna get away with this more than shitty list? I mean, Stratovarius? Every Time I Die? Lacuna Coil? Slipknot? And they could have taken a better song by Tool.

What I’ve learned since writing these lists is that NO ONE reads the intros. Noisecreep didn’t make the picks. Just check out the intro to see who did.

      YOU’RE AN INTRO!

      • Killer Kovarik

        Seriously you aren’t dead yet?

        This list sucked

        • http://www.noisecreep.com Jay DiNitto

He’s not dead. Noisecreep hires bodyguards for all their writers.

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Carlos-Ramirez/631635101 Carlos Ramirez

        what?

    • Jay Are

Then why even write an intro? Just put “WE DID NOT MAKE THIS LIST!”

      • http://www.myspace.com/somethinglikesweet CJ

Yeah, which would, in fact, be an intro. Smooth.

  • The Roan

this list is the worst piece of journalism this decade

  • O.B.

really, “Oblivion”??? fuckin “BLOOD AND THUNDER” is where it’s at

  • Malacoda

even if they didn’t write it, it’s a terrible list.

    rabble rabble rabble

  • Sean Pulatie

Take out Lacuna Coil, Stratovarius, and Slipknot. To put it briefly, you’ve got an overrated band, a band I don’t really care for, and a band that’s made MUCH better music since “Iowa”.

And while you’re at it, take out that Pantera song. I love Pantera as much as the next metalhead, but their best stuff came well before that.

Put in Lamb of God’s “Set To Fail”, The Dillinger Escape Plan’s “Panasonic Youth”, Norma Jean’s “Face:Face”, and Paria’s “Rabid McFly Grid”.

Now THAT’s a Top Ten Songs of the 2000s list.

Feel free to argue with me. I need a good metal argument.

    • Biff Tannen

Judging by what you think were some of the best songs of the decade, it would be pointless to get into a ‘metal argument’ with you since it appears your metal knowledge does not pass the kindergarten level.

    • Glorious Johnson

those songs all suck pretty hard too my friend. really? norma jean?

    • bRandon

set to fail is one of the worst LoG songs, and Panasonic Youth is definitely not DEP’s best either. The best LoG song is either Ruin or 11th Hour

  • http://infinitybasement.wordpress.com Jon L.

What a strange list.. I wouldn’t even attempt that lol

  • Bicro

Natasha is a fucking MONSTER. And they’re right…it’s the slow, soft parts which produce the best.

    ….It makes me cry.

  • datrick

well it was nice to see ETID, mastodon, converge, and pig destroyer on the list. i’m not sure about the particular songs…. but all the other bands were fuckin gay.

  • You Don’t Know Me

Tool is one of my favorite bands but holy crap, “Schism” does not deserve to be best song of the decade by a long shot.

  • http://www.myspace.com/somethinglikesweet CJ
