BETWEEN THE BURIED AND ME MADE A NINE MINUTE-PLUS MUSIC VIDEO!

Monday, November 30th, 2009 at 10:00am by

I know they probably didn’t have much of a choice, given that the only songs on their new album, The Great Misdirect, that are under six minutes (“Mirrors” and “Desert of Song”) aren’t really metal  and would thus miss the mark in terms of reaching their target audience… but still, props to these dudes for a) not just opting out of making a video altogether, b) not editing this song down to a more Headbanger’s Blech-friendly running time, and c) making a nine-minute plus video that actually remains engaging all the way through. Obviously, director Kevin McVey deserves kudos, too; I’m not really familiar with his other work (which includes a Lizzy Borden video!), but I plan to start doing some homework now.

The Great Misdirect is out now on Victory. It’s friggin’ sweet.

Only band on Victory worth giving a rats ass about.

    Great song XD

  • SomeKid

Dang. You gotta give them props for that.

  • Alkahest

Doesn’t really keep pace with the song, I suppose. Would have liked seeing some shots of the band though, but it’s still a good video.

Shots of the band? You mean just like every other boring ass, “look at how cool we are head banging and how bad ass we are by looking like tough metal dudes” video ever made? I’m not a very big fan of BTBAM, I’ve certainly expressed my disinterest in them on this site before. I do, however, genuinely respect them for making a 9+ minute video without one shot of the band (this is an assumption based on what you said, as I did not bother watching a long video of a band I don’t really care for). Videos, just like music, are supposed to be about ART; if I want to see another video of the band showing themselves off, I can go whack off to bullshit like Five Finger Death Punch. Good for BTBAM for making a video without showcasing themselves. Let the music speak for itself, not the image.

THIS VIDEO COMBINES MY TWO FAVOURITE THINGS

AWESOME MUSIC AND PHILIP K. DICK

I AM SO OVERJOYED I COULD PROBABLY STAB A GUY OR SOMETHING.

Heh… one of your favorite things is dick.

      • ////////////////////////////

        Haha good one Grover!

  • volga

the song and the video are both great. but during the video the song just seemed like background noise that shouldn’t be there.

wonder why labels and bands waste time/money/effort to make videos. seems kinda pointless. they’re not necessary like back when mtv actually played them.

    You guys are rediculous!
this is the craziest video I have EVER seen! And the video is synched with the music, you just have to be watching. That shit gave me the chills for real.

p.s I know a band that’s recording with Jamie King at the end of Feb.

everybody records with him lately. and yet you can’t tell. he’s the man at making bands sound like “themselves”

    • Alkahest

Enfold Darkness recorded with him. I was pleasantly surprised to find out.

  • brookh

    wow, that was fucking great

  • Driven9

    great band – decent video.

  • Russell

This video was excellent. At times it didn’t flow with the music but it gets away from the conventional metal video of just showing the band. Look at One by Metallica or that new Slayer video from Christ Illusion that just shows that dudes eye the entire time.

This video is on par with both of those. It is great to put a story to music and this did a great job of that.

I have to say that Behemoth has the best music video so far – When it comes to metal….

  • max

enjoyed the video, but i could have been listening to any song. just happened to be obfuscation

  • troe

Didn’t actually watch the video, only listened to the song. Considering I haven’t been able to pick up the Great Misdirect yet, this was a neat preview. At certain points I was reminded of “Colors part II” and then all of a sudden I heard some melo-death-ish stuff in there. Neat song, I guess I’ll watch the video next haha.

    • Alkahest

Just to give you a heads up, the rest of the album cant be judged by Obfuscation. It’s just so crazy.

      HAHAHAHAAHAHAAHA

  • Ty

That was a very entertaining video; I didn’t think I’d be able to sit through all nine minutes, but it was no problem. Haha now the just have to do a music video for Swim To The Moon. That would be the most brilliant music video ever.

  • Kincaid

Interesting. And totally fitting they’d have the same guy who played Dr. X in the original Operation Mindcrime videos as the magician. Good work if you can get it, I guess.

  • Strapping Young Lad

I LOVE CATS. AND THIS IS A GOOD VIDEO

  • DustintheWind

Wow, that vid is pretty fuckin badass.. Considering how much censorship is involved with getting a video on mtv these days (even on headbangers), good for them for doing this.
