THIS ANTHRAX FALL OUT MAKES ME WANT TO DIE EVERY TIME

Monday, November 30th, 2009 at 11:00am by

scott-ian-pokerScott Ian will do just about anything for a buck. It all started with those VH1 talking head appearances and Anthrax’s “reunion” tour with Joey Belladonna… since then he’s lent his face to the failed Nonelouder.com, wrote a comic book, and God knows what else. If nothing else, you’ve got to respect our favorite Big Four Jew for staying motivated.

But this is the last straw. Ian, along with fellow Anthrax guitarist Rob Caggiano, has teamed up with Fall Out Boy guitarist Joe Trohman and drummer Andy Hurley, and Every Time I Die’s Keith Buckley and bassist David Karon to form the new supergroup The Damned Things. Groan…

Some of you might remember the whole Fall Out Bot-covering-Pantera controversy from 2007. What a shitshow! But Scott Ian claims that Trohman and Hurley do have some metal cred after all: “People think of Fall Out Boy and they think of Pete Wentz and Patrick,” Ian told Rock Sound, “These two guys, man, they’re fucking hardcore dudes. Joe writes some amazing riffs.” And look, here’s a picture of one of them wearing a Skeletonwitch t-shirt.

While a band with Ian and Caggiano in it probably won’t be bad, if we’ve learned anything from Them Crooked Vultures it can’t be that good either. At least the latter band consisted of 3 legit dudes one of whom is a fucking LEGEND, while one-third of this band is comprised of members of… Fall Out Boy. Fall Out Fucking Boy. Oh, Scott Ian, what have you done? Hopefully the presence of the two legit metal dudes from ETID will rescue this album from the depths of total suck.

all I have to say is… GREAT HEADLINE!!

  • d00shc00gr

Well, at least we know Axl is excited: HIM has a new album AND Fall Out Boy made a supergroup with Anthrax!

I’ve got more faith in Andy and Joe from FOB writing a good metal record than I do about Scott Ian. Before those guys started FOB as half a joke, they were in almost every legit metalcore band from the chicago area in the late 90′s early 00′s. Blame ETID and scott ian when this sucks, not those guys.

    • yanky

can i please shoot you for that retarded shit you just spewed?

    • dlux

this is true. plus i find it ironic as i type this that there is a huge fall out boy banner ad running on this page. so they have musical standards but no standards as long as they’re paying for their ad? lame. andy is a huge Misery Signals fan, and Misery Signals rules.

      • Dubya

Misery Signals blows and this band will blow too. Scott Ian is a retard

        • PD

False. Misery Signals might be one of the only metalcore bands that don’t sound like every other band out there.

          • builtforsin

            YOU FAIL. Misery Signals SUCKS.

          • G.I.Joe

            nah Misery Signals rules :)

        • yanky

wow i thought this was the kind of place where im not the only anthrax fan

Did you know the members of fall out boy (minus their resident emo) got to know each other through a mutual interest in the band Neurosis?

      Just sayin.

      • The Ghost of D. Boon

Also for what it’s worth, Pete Wentz used to be in this insane power violence band from Chicago called Racetraitor

        http://www.myspace.com/xracetraitorx

        • thebenthic

plus i also heard that before fall out boy, pete wentz used to fill in all the time for creation is crucifction, wtf?

the first i heard about this i was like wtf? but now after looking into it, i found that the drummer from fall out boy is also in a nother side project with a couple of the guys from misery signals, apparently all these guys from fall out boy have a major background in metal, but just decided to gay it up for some record sales. if this is true, then fall out boy is legit as fuck!!!!

          • http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/46e389eb8b79606050d3d447431ff6ac?s=80 Nate

They probably are. It’s a smart idea. They have a guy who has an amazing singing voice, and they have that whole “young guys” image. Why not play off of that? Get big with something, get enough cash to ride out, and you can switch to metal and not have to live in poverty.

Cept, pete sold out. BAD. Cut to the marrying ashlee simpson and the emo-ness.

  • orbital

    not. one. care.

    ever

    • Trux

      Funny… I kinda do…

This band might turn out well…… at least they have my interest.

      • slumberjack1

i agree, they all are coming from different backgrounds, and they all write catchy shit, pop or metal, definitely will keep an eye on it

  • http://www.kingdomofnoise.blogspot.com MetalMatt

this is gonna suck. like the last ETID record.

  • yanky

    no no no no
i used to respect you scott….

  • Jimmy

I heard FOB’s guitarist was a metalhead anyway and wondered why he stuck with garbage. I’ll be interested in seeing what he can actually do.

    • jason

“and wondered why he stuck with garbage”

Pockets full of cash and 15 year old gash. Any more questions?

      • stu1

Yeah, I’d guess the millions of dollars they’ve made.

  • pariah

the FOB guys used to play in both racetraitor and arma angelus. should be enough metal cred for anybody.

  • http://hookinmouth.net Scott

“Scott Ian will do just about anything for a buck.”

Well no shit; he’s a Jew.

    • metalguy

      i was gunna say that

  • Chris Berseth

I’m probably going to get skewered for saying this, but when it comes down to it a band is a business. I have no problem believing that the guys from Fall Out Boy are into metal — being in a pop punk band probably pays more money than being in a metal band. That’s all.

    • Trux

      Agreed.

I dont have a problem with the fact that 2 guys from FOB are in this band either.

      • metalguy

        NO
there is no “punk” in their music. dont insult the name

        • http://www.gravatar.com/avatar/46e389eb8b79606050d3d447431ff6ac?s=80 Nate

There used to be. Not in folie a deux or infinity on high, but there was some punk in Take This to Your Grave and From Under the Cork Tree. The guitar player even screams a littl eon those albums.

  • Aaron

Fuck you all Fall Out Boy is the best thing to happen to pop music in years. These guys have some serious musical chops and I’m guessing this album is going to be a great guilty pleasure for a lot of people when it’s released. I mean seriously check out some of the work the drummer does, even in the confines of Fall Out Boy’s pop-punk sound that motherfucker can carry a heavy beat.

    • jewers

      i’ve heard they have a studio drummer…

      • stu1

That’s total bullshit. That dude is a monster live. I have trouble believing they wouldn’t use him in the studio.

  • TKO

Andy played in a Milwaukee metal band called Kill The Slavemaster which was pretty awesome

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Carlos-Ramirez/631635101 Carlos Ramirez

Didn’t Pete Wentz play in Race Traitor?

    • stu1

Andy was actually IN Racetraitor and Pete filled in live at some points but wasn’t a “member.”

  • gauche

i actually think this might be good.

  • KC

Arma Angelus were the shit back in the late 90s and early 2000s. They actually started FOB as a joke side project and it took off so they stuck with that instead. Also, they were kind of disgusted with the direction hardcore/metalcore was taking at the time and well who can blame them considering what it turned into shortly there after.

  • http://www.last.fm/user/M60Patton Patton

Anthrax is dead, get over it.

    • http://hookinmouth.net Scott

Have been for a long time now.

  • Che Guitarra

    I HAVE THAT SKELETONWITCH SHIRT!!!

  • SHOCKTROOP

remember when scott ian was cool? …. nah. me neither.

  • Caspar Colderson

I will once again bring attention to Fall Out Boy being a bunch of metalheads, just like some of the guys above have done.
Just for the sake of it, here’s a video of Andy Hurley doing some Meshuggah:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIByGCLPrlQ

it’s alright that you hate FOB since this IS a metal-site, but you can’t put a finger on their past, metal-wise.

    • stu1

I’ll also mention Andy wearing a Deathwish Inc shirt at this year’s grammys or VMAs (can’t remember which now).

  • blah

would rather listen to fall out boy than most of the stuff covered on this site

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Vince-Edwards/184804344 Vince Edwards

Quit hating it before you hear it. Hurley is a legit metal drummer (see: Killtheslavemaster) and all of the Fall Out Boy guys are metal dudes. Plus, ETID rules. If you don’t think they rule, I honestly don’t know what’s wrong with you. This might actually be good. The ETID dudes wouldn’t do it if it was going to suck. That’s just my two cents, but what the fuck do I know?

  • Fufkin

I can’t take any of Anthrax seriously anymore, with the exception of John Bush. And I can’t stand Every Time I Die – I can’t even explain why exactly. Well I can’t stand the music, sounds like a tuneless racket but it’s something more than that. Like a sinister mist.

  • Discipleofthewatch

    What’s up, Scott Ian?!

Will have to at least listen to it, though…

  • B-dizzle

    Way stoked on this

  • MidwestMetal

Hell Scott is probably doing this to pawn the Worship Music songs off on another band and not have to pay Dan Nelson anything for songs he did not get writing/lyric credit on..

  • DustintheWind

ETID fuckin rules..as long as Buckley is writing the lyrics for this band i’m in

  • Fang

Yeah axls excited and all and their music isnt totally fucked in the new mainstream bull that metal is suddenly bowing down to. But Anthrax especially Scott will do ANYTHING for a paycheck now a days that t.v. crap he does now on that vh1 or watever it is just makes him look like a tool, he needs his own t.v. show if he wants to b a reality star so god damn bad or spend his time promoting previous albums that atcually sold money.

  • Slender

The guys from fall out boy really are metal, they were in metal bands prior to FOB. Ive met them before and they know thier shit when it comes to metal.

  • inhumanrampager

I saw Anthrax on that “reunion” tour…..and it was in-fucking-credible. However, Fall Out Boy, in all their apparent metal fandom aren’t metal. They play pop “music” but we all know they should be shot in their tiny balls, then kicked over the edge of a cliff. Additionally, Scott Ian should be stripped of any metal credibility until that apparent new Anthrax album comes out.

  • Louis Gaudet

As previously stated, members of Fall Out Boy were in metal/hardcore acts before this (Racetraitor) & got together over a similar interest in Neurosis. My issue is that this is something that Axl probably should of researched before taking a stab at them.

I’ve found that a few times on this website, that the writers obviously don’t research or look out for information but rather post shit when someone points it out to them, spite the fact the information might be dated.

Please, Metalsucks, tell us information that Wikipedia can’t.
