    Don’t hate on Gaga. A lot of her imagery and lyrics are actually super deep, and all of her music videos actually go along with her musics messages. And the music itself is classically inspired, Gaga herself is actually a classically trained pianist. The name Gaga is an allusion to the Queen song “Radio Gaga”, which in itself is an allusion to, once again, Metropolis, which tells the story of a woman from the working class that was chosen by the elite to give life to a robot, through a mix of science and Black magic. Much like modern popstars. Her songs are about how fucked up current pop music is today, and she’s singing it to all these stupid asshole’s faces, how pop music is fucked up and shallow, and all they can do is smile and hum to the catchy tune. Cool shit if you ask me.

      Allusions to Metropolis don’t automatically make you “super deep”… and her songs, at least on The Fame, are probably MORE narcissistic than anything else in mainstream pop. “The music itself is classically inspired” – not really; she may be a talented pianist, but there’s no more classical influence in her current songs than Britney or anyone else.

      The Fame Monster, however, has some pretty damn solid songwriting, so I’ll give her that. But at this phase of her career, there really isn’t that much meaning to read into her work.
