SCAR SYMMETRY’S GOOFY “ASCENSION” THROUGH THE COSMOS “CHAMBER”

Scar Symmetry’s decision to replace ex-vocalist Christian Alvestam with two dudes — one growler and one singer — was a goofy move on paper, and it looks kinda goofy on video too. At least in videos the band has the benefit of an editor who can cut between one vocalist or the other, or focus on one of the other band members. But live, this shit’s gotta be super goofy — what does one guy do while the other is singing; just stand there and head bang? Totally goofy.

Still, I got nothin’ but love for Scary Symmetry’s music. This year’s Dark Matter Dimensions wasn’t SS’s best but it’s solid, if predictable for the band at this point. They’ve just released a video for the song “Ascension Chamber,” and as is par for the course for Scar Symmetry the video is focused around cosmic/spacial themes. Peep it below.

    Good stuff, but I still don’t like the over-processed sound of the clean-vocals singer. If he can’t match Alvestam, fine, just don’t computer-fuck the vocals so much.

    Great song, great album, but these videos are goofy as fuck. This is why music videos should have a story (like the BTBAM or Alice In Chains videos posted in the last day or so).

    The growl guy is decent but his so god damn goofy. He does the generic mean face and generic everything, he’s so f’n corny. He’s even worse on the other song they made a video for from the new album. He’s trying waaaaaaaay to hard to look tough. Especially taking into account Scar Symmetry makes music about quantum physics and shit. Just f’n relax dude.

    Ok, I think it can be agreed upon that the growler is a goofy looking fuck. But what about the singer? What was with all that hair in his face? Isn’t that a big video no-no? Shouldn’t this director have realized that?

    they’re not the first band to have two dedicated singers, there was 3 inches of blood back in the day, Sikth, Lacuna Coil. And what does any singer do during the instrumental sections?

    The two vocalists do come across goofy, especially in that vid, and I’m not sure how the two vocalist deal will sound live, but this song is pretty damn good…

    They may be goofy, they may make stupid faces, they may deliver gigs not at par with the album version, they may try to look though, they may have the worst videos ever realeased and yet I don’t care, cause their music is unbelievably awesome.
